All of you know about the Teen Titans cartoon on cartoon network. But who here knows about there origins???
Well I remember reading a hardcover collection of a few of the first Titans comics and just recently I found some more old Teen Titans collections and it made me think about how they translated the old Teen Titans comic into the new Cartoon.
Well first here's a little history lesson about the Teen Titans. For those of you who already know this stuff feel free to skip this section.
The Teen Titans comic series started in 1980. And there were 7 Titans. Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Beastboy (Or Changeling as he wanted to be called in the comic), Raven, Kid Flash, and Wonder Girl.
And of course there's the Titans arch nemeses Deathstroke the Terminator (Who is known more by his real name. Slade) Slade was a volunteer for a new anti truth serum that the army was cooking up. Although the test failed. While it was thought that Slade would become crippled the exact opposite happened. Slade gained superhuman agility and his sinces became highly advanced.
There's also the interesting saga of The Judas Contract. This is when Terra joined the Teen Titans to almost destroy them. Now a lot of interesting things happened in this saga.
First Kid Flash left the titans for a while because he thought he was a bit of an outsider in the group. He also thought he needed a bit of alone time because he never really wanted to join the Titans in the first place. The only reason he joined is because Raven put some kind of love spell over Kid Flash.
Then Robin wished to retire his hero name because he thought he long outgrew the title of Robin and needed a new identity to fit the person he grew into. Thus the birth of Nightwing.
Also in the middle of the saga the Titans got a new member named Jericho. Who was none other than Slades 2nd son. Because of the serum his father took Jericho was given the power to become intangible and control someone’s motor skills (meaning he was able to control there body but not there mind) just by making eye contact with them.
Now here's what I think of how the new Titans reflect the old Titans
Now with Robin I think the Cartoon Robin fits the old Robin's personality quite well.
With Starfire she seems more naive in the new cartoon than she was in the old comic... (Plus another difference was that the old starfire wore much less clothing than the new one ^^;; though what can you expect)
The new Cyborg seems to be a techno freak while the old cyborg wasn't really interested in technology. He was just an athlete.
With Raven it's more about how the Titans treat her. In the cartoon the Titans really want to help Raven and they try there hardest. While in the comic they never really helped Raven and they never knew why. Some of the Titans said that they were kind of scared of Raven and thus never wanted to really get to know her.
Beast Boy (Or Changeling) kept his goofy image in the cartoon though they kind of left out the fact that he was really a rich guy. (His parents were millionaires) and they never explained how he got his powers. In the comic it says that beast boy caught a rare tropical disease that only animals could survive from. So his parents were able to make a machine that gave beast boy a generic bond between him and animals. But as a Side affect his skin turned green and he could turn into any animal.
Now with Terra she's completely different in both forms. In the comic the Titans meet her when she was stealing the statue of liberty. After a short fight Terra said she was just a confused girl on the run from Terrorist and the Titans took her in. What they didn't know was that the whole story was made up and she was a spy for Slade. And unlike the cartoon Terra she hated the Titans from the start. In the end she killed herself throughout all of her frustration.
And here's something I wonder. What would it have been like if Wonder Girl and Kid Flash had been in the new cartoon???
Well anyhoo if anyone has any thoughts on all of this please share and if you have any info to add or any classifications to make please do ^^ |

Well, I like the new Terra better. I'm seriously hoping that she comes back, as there have been rumors of it flying around. _________________ EXEHQ. Click now, I demand it.

It could happen. In the oringal comic she was saved by some kinda time traveling villan (I think it's the same one that in the cartoon Starfire went to the future with) Though she says that she's some hero from the future who had sergery to look like the real Terra. Though what I don't get is how is some Villan going to save her when the titans found her corpse??? (oringal comic) |

I sense a plothole. Well, if she comes back, I'm happy. It can't be someone who looks like her. It's just not the same. Aye, a fanboy can dream though. I actually found her death in the new Teen Titans to be touching. _________________ EXEHQ. Click now, I demand it.

Valtz, good to see you did your homework on the old Titans, however, few slip ups. The Titans you described were "The NEW Teen Titans." The Original team was 5 members, Robin (Dick Grayson), Kid Flash (Wally West), Wonder Girl (Donna Troy), Speedy, (Roy Harper), and Aqualad (Garth). This was basically all the sidekicks of major heroes given their own comic. Later on, the Roster switched to the Titans you described, and then began the years of the rotating Titans roster. A recent issue of the series had Dr. Light requesting to fight the Titans, and the Titans alone. However, he ended up going against a few dozen of them, all former or current Titans.
Beast Boy's green skin is a side effect of the disease, not his parents' treatment of it. When all the children of San Francisco were infected by Sakuhita, they all turned green and Beast boy turned back to normal.
As far as people coming back from the dead, there is one rule in comics, the only people that NEED to stay dead are Uncle Ben and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne. Everyone else can come back from the dead if the writers really want to use them, and they can convince the higher ups that it's worth it, (Green Arrow, Iris Allen, Jean Gray, etc.)
I would be VERY happy if they brought Kid Flash into the animated series. They have brought in Speedy and Aqualad already, so Wally and Donna are the only ones missing still. Wonder Girl is a possibility, but I don't think I'll be seeing the speedster any time soon, considering they've got Mas y Menos on the cartoon. But hey, a fanboy can dream, can't he? _________________ "There's Nothing I can't Burn"~Fireman.EXE

You mean Warp?
On another note, my Titans Dream Team would be:
Bolt (my character)
Terra
Hotspot
Aqualad

That's awesome. The fact that they've also got Rosenbaum doing the voice is great. He's the perfect voice for the Flash in Justice League. He'll probably just kick it up a half octave to do young Flash's voice. _________________ "There's Nothing I can't Burn"~Fireman.EXE

Whoa... I didn't know Teen Titans had such a developed history. o.O That's really interesting- they seemed to have weaved much of the comic's plot into the TV series rather nicely, seeing that it started 25 years ago. Seriously, that surprises me. I thought they had just started it from their own ideas and perhaps from happenings in the Batman or Justice League series, because Robin was in it.
Was Teen Titans, at any point, from Japan? Because I remember that the opening theme for the series when it first started out was sung in japanese. At least, it sounded like japanese. I have trouble hearing lyrics as it is. << _________________

Actually, the old saying was that "the only ones who stay dead are Uncle Ben and Bucky." No mention of the Waynes. :p
Of course, recent developments in the Captain America don't seem to agree with it... >_> _________________ 「無一物」

The opening theme's artists are Japanese, and the show has a lot of anime quirks thrown into it, so sometimes they play the jpn version of the opening. Which I love. XD _________________ One of the three EXE sisters! *Armstrong-style pose*

Well, that's if you're speaking with a Marvel-centric comic fan. The DC equivalent was "The only ones who stay dead are The Waynes and Jason Todd" but again that doesn't hold true. What is it with dead sidekicks coming back? But Uncle Ben or the Waynes coming back would remove the whole motivation for Spider-man and Batman becoming heroes, respectively.
And Izu, I love your icon ^_^ _________________ "There's Nothing I can't Burn"~Fireman.EXE

Oooh, Jason Todd... That was one DEPRESSING scene. Whose idea as it to vote on whether he would live or not??
I always thought Beast Boy had the saddest story of all the Titans. He's kind of an outcast, and acts funny so people will like him. In the end I think he slowly loses his powers...
Though, I can't say I like the comics very much. Starfire's planet keeps getting blown up. Seriously! The first one explodes, okay okay, let's all move to a new oon-KABLOOM. Okay, a nee-KABLOOM. -.- Then she [spoil:55f419214d]got married like twice, and almost a third time to Robin, but nooo! Evil Raven ruins the ceremony (and quite possibly the least revealing piece of clothing Star owns. =p Oh well.)[/spoil:55f419214d] |

If anyone would like it I could scan in and post some pictures of the oringal titans.
Also i'm wondering some of the people they changed. Like Brother Blood. He was changed a lot. He oringaly had a religious cult that worshoped him.
Then there's Terra but I already explaned her
.... I can't really say slade because they give him zero history in the cartoon |

Well, when you really think about it, the HIVE is a sort of religious cult. You know, with Brother Blood's powers and all. _________________

Well the H.I.V.E is another thing too. It's not a school at all but a specal terrorst orgization or something like that. While the comic Brother Blood could control people too he was never apart of H.I.V.E as far as I know |

I found it odd, but sort of cool, that Wildebeast showed up so early in the show and as a hero. The Wildebeasts, from what I remember, were creations of one of the Titan's enemies and gave them some trouble. Although that one baby Wildebeast was pretty much on their side. Who was it, Starfire that the baby was attached to? It's been so long since I've read those comics. Hmm, I wonder if Jericho will ever show up in the show. They wouldn't have to pay for another voice actor after all. At least, I think he was mute. And I think... did he have a relationship with Raven? My memory very fails. _________________ Church: Are you following any of this?
