A little one-shot I wrote while playing Kingdom Hearts. Got inspired; it’s not very long, but it still had meaning to me, so I kept it. Reviews would be nice.

Striking ice blue eyes set upon a sleeping town, lights turned out and a deep silence resting amongst the twisting district alleyways. Not a sound echoed through the constant quiet, and not a stir of movement caught the careful eyes that continued to stare with vengeance and disbelief down at the oblivious and peaceful souls. The moon shone with such pale light that the shadows created eerie, distorted outlines, clawing at the pavement with jagged fingers and opening their hollow mouths to devour it all. It was all in the shadows, and without shadows, without darkness, the monsters ceased to exist.
The blue disappeared for but a moment’s lapse, in a slow and deliberate blink, mind still contemplating just what kind of trouble the boy had pitted himself in. Silvery-white hair, almost milky when illuminated by the moonlight, fell just past the chin and stopped short, followed by low shoulders. Legs hung off the edge of the roof shingles, unmoving with delayed thoughts and confusion. The boy looked up.
“How could he not care?”
The other came to mind, the boy with ruffled, messy brown hair, a round and curious face, and the destined holder of the legendary Keyblade, the mythical yet lethal weapon that could seal the darkness from ever harming others again. He was too absorbed in his own adventures, his own ‘destiny’ to remember his former friends. Had he forgotten his homeland? Had he forgotten the long days on the white sand, diving into pools of foamy blue and catching silver, darting fish by the handful? The sun had always shone down in that faraway place, and no one ever had to worry about the threatening and dangerous ways of the outside worlds. His childhood had always been so full of adventure and surprise, discovery and laughter, training with the one who he thought would always stick by his side no matter what.
Oh, how fate could spoil so quickly! His homeland was no more, his childhood was no more. The Heartless- their name defined it all. They had emerged from nowhere, thrown him into nowhere, and when he had finally met up with his greatest friend, it seemed he already had replaced him, along with having taken ahold of the one thing that would directly determine every being’s ever-changing future. He was sure the Keyblade Master had not even been looking for him, too absorbed in his ‘heroic duty’ to pay attention to his once trusting companions. And then the worse had come. Riku was sure that if he couldn’t get Sora back, he could get Kairi back. No, hope was all but destroyed now. She was nothing short of lifeless, completely empty. The Heartless had taken the vital part that powered her, gave her emotion, contained her soul, and pumped the flowing life force through her veins. Her heart was gone. He was so desperate to have his friend back, willing to do anything. When he had at first accepted the offer from such a suspicious-looking suspect, he had thought that he could get it over with and he’d be done. But it seemed he was only sinking deeper into what seemed an unexplainable and inescapable trap. The wicked Maleficent, the vicious dragon soul empowering a sharp and crude human shell, would not let this chance to control such a powerful boy escape her hands. Riku’s loyalty, his trust, his companionship, had led him straight into the side he’d never wanted to join. He could think of no way to get out of it. Sora didn’t trust him anymore. Kairi was, in general, dead. There was no one left but the inviting and beckoning hand of the Heartless.
And now, as he sat upon the red-shingle roof in Traverse, he found that there was nothing left to think of. The only ambition, the one that kept him going, was the one to restore Kairi so she could live and breathe again, so he could hear her voice and know that she was really there.
“Riku, my dear boy,” came a voice dripping with too much pride and acid. “Whatever could you be doing out so late in such a meaningless town? Surely you’d be out practicing with that new power of yours. After all, controlling the Heartless is a great task needing much time.”
“I’m thinking, Maleficent. It’s a human thing.”
Maleficent drew back and scowled, yellow eyes glowing like the cruel dragon within her. “Thinking of what?”
Riku didn’t answer, but didn’t turn to look at her either. If there was one soul in this universe he hated, it was her. If she even had a soul.
“Remember, Riku,” she hissed, “You have a job to do. You will never get Kairi back if you continue to dwindle away your precious time.”
“Yes, Maleficent. I know.”
She exhaled slowly, still watching him like a hawk. “Very well. I do hope you’ve gotten the Keyblade-wielder off your mind. You should no longer have a concern for him.”
“Yes, Maleficent.”
There was a silence, and she spoke. “I know your thoughts have wandered to him, nonetheless. Do not think I am one who knows nothing about the human mind. I will tell you once again, Riku, and take care to heed my warning. Forget about the boy. He has forgotten his past. He has forgotten you. He doesn’t care… and neither should you.”
Riku closed his eyes and sighed. “…Yes, Maleficent.”
The wicked woman waved her hand and was gone in a cascade of trailing wisps of black smoke. Riku relaxed a bit, no longer gripped by her piercing stare. Slowly, he stood and transported back to the hideout, where the unmoving Kairi lay. He kneeled down beside her and stared at her unmoving form, thoughts wandering once again back to Destiny Islands. He remembered when he and Sora had raced against the time, arguing over to what to name their ship for their upcoming travels, wanting to share the special fruit with the girl that stood between them. He missed the competition. He missed his friend. He missed Sora.
“But I won’t miss you,” he whispered, taking her hand and holding it tight. “Because you won’t be taken away from me. You’re the only one I have left, and I promise it’ll stay that way.” He sat next to her at her feet, putting his face in his hands and rubbing his temples. Everything was so stressing these days. If only the Heartless had never come to Destiny Islands, then they would be scouring the clear oceans right now, discovering new lands and collecting treasure. It had to turn out like this. Fate had to come and do this to him. He wanted to go back now, to take Kairi and join Sora and forget about his deal with Maleficent and the Heartless. It was too late now.
He had to forget now. He had to forget Sora. He had to forget Destiny Islands.
Riku had to forget Riku. _________________

Oh wow, that was awesome. I was disappointed by the fact you never saw Riku's side of the story in KH, and you've seemed to give a good, believable backstory for him. You did a wonderful job with imagery(as usual), and you made Riku seem a bit more human. Nice work. _________________
