Here's Falling:

Netto crossed his arms over his legs and stared blankly into space. Ever since Rockman had been taken away from him because of Dark Rockman he had slowly withdrawn from the world. Because Dark Rockman was originally part of Rockman he found it harder and harder to ignore his own link with the navi and Rockman had noticed it too, which was why he decided to go into a stasis mode so that Netto couldn’t get hurt through him. Little did he know that his decision had only made Netto more of a target.

Dark Rockman gazed out of the computer monitor at the child who was sulking on his bed. His idiot ‘Good’ side had finally withdrawn from the picture because he could sense the Evil Aura begin to corrode his own data. Well fine then, if Rockman couldn’t handle the power of Darkness then why should he be active at all? To live was to gain power, that’s all there was too it. And if he was afraid of such power, why should he care?

Dark Rockman continued to watch as Netto fought with his own inner demons. It was certainly hard, to corrupt a human, however Netto was special and it may have been hard but it was possible. With Rockman in stasis no one realized that it merely left Dark Rockman to manipulate the link at his own liking, it wasn’t like they could put the child in stasis, now could they?

Dark Rockman gave out a soft laugh and Netto’s head jerked up. “Who’s there?”

Dark Rockman stepped into plain view in the monitor and waved cheerfully. “Hello, Netto-kun,” he said brightly.

Netto jumped up and glared at the navi. “What are you doing here?” he hissed. “Haven’t you done enough damage to us?”

Dark Rockman looked up and placed a finger on his lips in a cutesy thoughtful pose, “Hmmm… no!” he said cheerfully and glared at Netto with his blood-red eyes.

Netto growled and backed up slowly towards his door. Rockman’s eyes glowed briefly and the electronic lock inside Netto’s door turned, locking him inside. Netto pulled on the handle in vain for a bit before Dark Rockman’s laugh made him turn around. “Scared?” he asked.

Netto narrowed his eyes, “You wish,” he hissed.

Dark Rockman held up a hand and let it pulse with Dark energy. “Beautiful, isn’t it?” he sighed, letting the purple color glow in his eyes, making him look like he was possessed.

Netto shook his head dazedly as he looked at the energy. His head felt fuzzy whenever he looked at it and he never was quite sure why. Dark Rockman noted this and grinned, “You feel the power, don’t you, Netto-kun?” he asked silkily.

Netto shook his head. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he spat.

“Oh, but you do. Because I am Rockman, and Rockman is me, and we both have access to our link,” Dark Rockman sneered. “You’re a powerful operator, Netto-kun, but your silly ideas about good and evil only weaken you.”

Netto backed up until his back was pressed against the wall. “I will never be like you!” he yelled.

Dark Rockman shrugged, “I don’t see you having much choice. It’s not like you can split off from the Dark energy within you like Rockman did. You don’t have that ability. All you can do is sit and wait while it slowly takes over you, just like me.”

Netto shook his head and shivered at Dark Rockman’s cruel laugh. “Why?” he asked finally.

“Why?” Dark Rockman asked. “Why indeed? You see, Netto-kun, to Rockman, you are his most precious thing in the world. His little brother for whom he would willingly give his own life, if he could. Now, if I were to crush his precious little brother, what would he do? Obviously I can’t kill you, that’s the same as killing myself. So, why not just… play around with the Darkness a little?” Dark Rockman’s lips curved into a cruel smile. “Besides, I like you, Netto-kun.”

Netto shook his head, “I will never…” he started again.

Dark Rockman shrugged. “Deny it all you want, my dear brother, but you have no choice.”

There was a loud hum as a dimensional area came over Netto’s house and the floor became tainted with the iridescent hues that announced the merging of the real world and the internet. Dark Rockman logged out of Netto’s PC and appeared in front of him, grinning madly. “Sci Labs is entirely too easy to hack into. Who would have thought I could control their precious dimensional converters from here?”

Netto struck out and punched Dark Rockman across the face. “Don’t think it will last long,” Netto said darkly.

Dark Rockman chuckled and lifted his head back up to face Netto’s where he licked his lips. “Doesn’t need to, Netto-kun,” he whispered.

Netto tried to hit him again but his fist was caught and he was spun around so that he was no longer facing the Dark Navi. Then Dark Rockman pinned Netto’s arms behind him with one hand and grabbed him around the waist with another. “Just long enough,” he finished and logged out with the hapless human.

~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~

They appeared in a tall building that overlooked much of Den San city. Weather it was in the real world or the cyber world Netto wasn’t sure, all he knew was that he was not in his room and he was still in Dark Rockman’s grasp. “Let me go,” Netto yelled while thrashing in Dark Rockman’s grip. Dark Rockman let him go with a smirk and let him fall to the floor.

“Well then, Netto-kun, looks like the tables have turned,” he said with a creepy grin.

Netto stood up and whirled around, ready to fight the navi again, no matter what the cost. Dark Rockman dodged the first few blows before retaliating by hitting Netto in the stomach hard enough to make him collapse onto the floor, but not enough to warrant unconsciousness. Netto curled around his stomach and took in deep breaths to try and make the pain go away while Dark Rockman looked down at him with faux pity in his red eyes. “I don’t understand, Netto-kun. Why don’t you just take in the Darkness?”

“Because,” Netto gasped, then coughed. “I will never be like you.”

Dark Rockman laughed and grabbed Netto by the neck and pulled him to his feet as he gasped for air. “I already said,” Dark Rockman said in a dark whisper, “you don’t have a choice.”

Netto tried to make Dark Rockman let go but his efforts were in vain. The Navi was too strong for him to budge with his own strength. If only he had Rockman, then he could cross fuse, and then…

“Your precious Saito-nii-chan isn’t coming, Netto-kun,” Dark Rockman said with a nasty grin. “No one is.”

“That’s… not… true…” Netto gasped.

Dark Rockman loosened his grip and lowered Netto so that his feet could touch the floor. Netto took in some air and glared at Dark Rockman. “They will come.”

“Not soon enough,” Dark Rockman replied and let his hand pulsate with Dark Energy. Netto shut his eyes and tried to will away the Dark energy. “You can’t stop it, Netto-kun,” Dark Rockman laughed.

The Dark energy spread until it engulfed Dark Rockman’s entire being and radiated off him like fire. Netto gasped as it slowly seeped into his being through the link and started to poison his own body. “You may be human, Netto-kun, but you are also more,” Dark Rockman said with a loud laugh. “Now, accept it.”

‘No!’ Netto thought, shutting his eyes. ‘I don’t want…’

“Fighting is useless,” Dark Rockman jeered. “You can’t fight something like this.”

‘Rockman…’ Netto thought desperately. ‘Please…’

Finally the Dark Aura began to pulsate around Netto as well and grow stronger. Dark Rockman’s eyes widened as he smiled and set Netto back down on the floor where he stood still, putting up his final battle against the Darkness. Then his eyes slowly went blank and the aura disappeared. “Rockman?” he asked softly.

Dark Rockman stepped forward and pulled Netto into an embrace. “I’m here, Netto-kun.”

Netto’s eyes widened and then closed as he collapsed into Dark Rockman’s arms. Dark Rockman grinned and laughed, stroking Netto’s hair. “I’m here, and nothing will change that now.”

Here's Rising:

Netto slowly opened his eyes, putting up his hand to block an unwanted light from reaching his eyes. “Hello, Netto-kun,” a soft voice said to him.

“Rock… man…” he mumbled slowly.

“Yes, Netto-kun. I’m glad you’re awake, you scared me for a minute,” Dark Rockman said quietly.

Netto shook his head dazedly, “Rockman…” he said again. “I…”

Dark Rockman helped Netto sit up. “It’s all right, you’re fine now.”

Netto took in a deep breath and shook his head to will away the bad feeling he had in the back of his mind. “Yeah,” he said, a little more sure of himself. “I’m fine.”

Dark Rockman nodded, “Yes.”

Netto looked around with a small grin on his face. “Rockman is here,” he told himself. Then he looked at Rockman with empty eyes, “I missed you nii-san.”

Dark Rockman grinned and hugged Netto, “I missed you too, little brother,” he said truthfully. “Very much.”

Netto looked past Dark Rockman and blinked. “You’re here, but where is everyone else?”

“What do we need them for, Netto-kun?” Dark Rockman asked. “We’re here, and that’s all that matters.

‘No!’ a voice yelled in the back of Netto’s mind. ‘No, that’s not true.’ Netto shook his head and shoved away the small voice. “Right,” he agreed.

Dark Rockman’s lips twisted into a small smile. “Very good, Netto-kun.”

~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~

In the deep recesses of Netto’s mind, a small light throbbed vainly against the dark energy that consumed the area. “No…” Netto thought harshly. “This isn’t right. That’s not my nii-san and I’m not being heard!”

‘Netto-kun…’ a soft voice said.

Netto relaxed for a second to try and hear the voice again.

‘Netto-kun…’

“Rockman?” Netto called out. “Is that really you?”

‘Netto-kun, calm down,’ the voice said again.

Netto did as he was told and when he became aware again he was standing in a dimly lit room with no noticeable boundaries except an unknown light source. In front of him stood his elder twin and best friend. “Saito!” Netto gasped and hugged his twin tightly.

Saito smiled and hugged Netto back. “I knew something was wrong,” he murmured. “As soon as I felt the dark energy I knew something was wrong.”

“Saito, I can’t do anything,” Netto said in a small voice. “Something…”

“You’re infected with the Dark energy,” Saito said while clutching Netto closer. “I was convinced you were gone,” he gasped. “I was so worried.”

“But, if I’m here then what about…” Netto wasn’t quite sure how to word the rest.

“The Dark energy has taken over your body, just like it took over mine. Netto-kun, you have to fight it, or it will consume your entire being,” Saito told him with worry in his dark eyes.

Netto shook his head, “But how?” he asked. “How do I fight it? I tried before but…”

Saito smiled sadly. “I’m afraid I can’t tell you how, but if you don’t you will never regain yourself.”

Netto shut his eyes and buried his face in Saito’s chest. “I don’t want to leave you…” he whispered.

“I’ll be fine,” Saito replied with a soft smile. “I promise. I’m always here with you, Netto-kun, I promise. If you escape the darkness then you can get Rockman and together we’ll fight back against my dark side but… until then you have to win your own battle.”

Netto nodded and held Saito closer. “All right,” he said.

Saito put his hand on Netto’s head and pushed his head back gently so they would look eye to eye. “Promise?” he asked.

Netto gave him a broad grin that seemed to put his twin at ease, “I promise, Saito-nii-san.”

Saito grinned, “Good, Netto-kun. Are you ready?”

Netto nodded and gave Saito a smile. “I’m always ready. You should know that.”

Saito winked at him, “I’ll remind you that tomorrow morning,” he teased.

Netto nodded, “Yeah, see you tomorrow morning.”

The dim room slowly began to grow lighter and lighter until Netto could no longer see Saito’s face but only feel him. Saito squeezed Netto’s hand gently before the room dissipated.

Netto was back in his own private little corner and he could feel the Dark energy begin to pulsate around him. “Please,” he whispered. “I promised…”

The small light within the Darkness grew stronger and stronger until Netto could no longer keep his own thoughts inside of the small area and he slipped into oblivion.

~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~

“Netto-kun, are you all right?” Dark Rockman asked, suddenly wondering why Netto was looking at nothing in particular.

Netto shut his eyes tightly and put his hands to his head. “No,” he whispered.

“Netto-kun?” Dark Rockman asked.

“NO!” Netto yelled.

Dark Rockman backed off at the sudden surge of emotion that came through his link. “What?”

Netto collapsed to his knees and shut his eyes tightly. “No…” he whispered. “I promised.”

A dark energy pulsated around the child before slowly dissipating. “You…” Dark Rockman growled.

Netto took in several deep, shuddering breaths, “I won’t… give in… to you!” he yelled while fixing Dark Rockman with an angry glare.

Dark Rockman took a slow step back then his expression changed completely. He gave Netto a cruel smirk and nodded, “All right… Netto-kun,” he smirked.

Netto stood up shakily, “What are you planning?” he snapped, the devious thoughts of Dark Rockman making themselves know through the link.

Dark Rockman stepped forward and grabbed Netto’s shoulder. “Hmm… I wonder?” he asked before sending a shock through the brunette’s body that rendered the child unconscious. "A promise... huh" he asked dully to the air.

~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~

Netto opened his eyes slowly to look up at the ceiling of his familiar room. “Huh?” he asked.

“Good morning, Netto-kun,” a soft voice greeted him.

Netto sat up quickly and stared at his navi before his face broke into a large grin. “Morning, nii-san!” he answered cheerfully.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
More to follow, I promise XD
Notes: This is not a sequential fic. Each bit will be a one shot, or a small blurb based around one basic idea. Also I will try my best to keep the charachters at Netto, Rockman, Dark Netto and Dark Rockman. No one else will be coming into play if I can help it.
So, in other words it'll be choppy and messy but loosely tied in with each other. Sounds cool? Good, cause this is going to nag at me for DAYS until I do it XD
Heh...so you decided to make this a series after all.
Now it flows a bit better. Now that you have one less character to work with, it should be easier to write. I know you're worried about OOCness, but if you show that the character is changed in a reasonable way, then it's all good.
I like the way you write Dark Rockman, as well. I know I have said it before, but you always manage to get him down to what he should be: manipulative, and wears down his prey before going in for the kill. Wonderful characterization.
I hope to see more on this, Neko. =3
I am fascinated by this concept. Please accept my meager praises.
Darkness
Netto groaned and lay his head down on his desk. “Tired, Netto-kun?” Rockman asked him kindly.
Netto nodded, “Yeah, think I’ve done enough homework for tonight?”
“Well,” Rockman sighed, “It is the weekend.”
Netto grinned, “So, no more homework?”
Rockman laughed, “Nah, let’s take a break. You’re tired and I’m getting there. I’d best quit while I’m ahead.”
Netto stood up and stretched his hands over his head. “Good idea, Rockman,” he smirked. “I was about to start complaining.”
Rockman nodded and tapped his head, “I know Netto-kun, I heard you loud and clear.”
Netto laughed, “I tried to keep it to myself.”
Rockman linked into his PET and appeared on Netto’s shoulder. “I know, it’s all right. Like I said, we’re tired. Maybe you should go to bed.”
Netto glanced at his clock which blinked ’10:57’ back at him. He nodded, “Yeah it’s pretty late. Sleep sounds good right about now.”
Rockman watched as Netto slipped his PET into the charger and slid into bed. Rockman turned off the light through a program and dimmed the glow that his PET gave off. “Good night, Netto-kun,” he said softly.
“Night, Rockman,” Netto replied sleepily and curled up in his bed.
~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~
Netto jerked awake in a foreign place. He didn’t see much of anything really, but he knew that it wasn’t his bedroom. “Rockman?” he called out. ‘Something’s wrong…’ he thought to himself.
“Morning,” a cheerful voice said behind him.
Netto whirled around to see himself waving at him cheerfully. When he opened his eyes however, they were blood red. “Who are you?” Netto asked him angrily.
“You,” his double said with a smirk. “Your dark side to be exact. I was created when Dark Rockman captured you and forced the Dark Energy inside you.”
“No,” Netto growled. “I got rid of you!”
His double chucked, “Please. You know as well as I do that light and dark cannot defeat one another. ‘The brighter the light, the more concentrated the dark.’ There is no grey area for you, Netto-kun, you are too idealistic for that. So, I’m created instead.”
/Rockman?/ Netto thought to his twin, just in case Dark Rockman was behind it and he was seeing things.
His other self smirked. “You’re not going to call anyone from in here. Or haven’t you noticed that your thoughts are completely silent.”
Netto blinked, he was right. His head was completely silent, he couldn’t even sense Rockman, and for some reason it disturbed him. “Scared?” his other self asked.
“No!” Netto shot back.
His other self walked over to him and stood directly in front of him. “You should be,” he said. “Because you are me, and I am you. There’s no way around that. Every evil thought or dark emotion you repressed is inside me, Netto-kun. You have a lot of them too. You’re very good at holding back, you know that?”
Netto shook slightly from anger at his other self. “Shut up!” he yelled.
“Oh? Like you weren’t aware of your resentment against your dad for not being there for most of your life,” he laughed.
“Papa is with me now!” Netto countered.
“Or Enzan and Laika for being so cold to everyone,” he continued.
“They’re better,” Netto growled.
“And at yourself for not being strong enough,” he smirked.
Netto stood still and glared at his other self with an intense hate. “No…” he said to himself.
“And now me, apparently,” his dark side chuckled. “Way to go Netto-kun.”
Netto shook his head violently, “NO!” he yelled.
“You know these are your emotions,” he said softly. “They’ve always been there. You’ve never wanted to accept them, but they’re there.”
Netto turned around, “I don’t have to listen to you!”
“Ah, but my dear other self, you ARE me. Of course you do. You know I’m right,” he said.
Netto decided just to ignore him and wait until he returned to where he should be.
His other self sighed then chuckled. “Remember our fifth birthday? Papa promised he’d be there and we waited for 4 hours at the airport, almost missing our party just to find out he’d forgotten. We got pretty upset, didn’t we?”
Unbidden the memory came to Netto’s mind. The endless waiting with a cold sense of dread in his stomach the whole time, then sobbing himself to sleep in his mother’s arms.
“You do remember,” his other self said. “And others, just like it too.”
Netto shook his head, “I don’t care. It’s in the past now.”
His other self walked in front of Netto and looked at him with pity in his cold, hard, red eyes. “But the hurt isn’t.”
Netto took in a deep shuddering breath. “No,” he whispered.
His other self hugged him tightly, “See? Our Darkness is nothing to be ashamed of. We should embrace it, because it will make us stronger. That’s what we want isn’t it?”
Netto shook his head, “Not like this. Never…”
“Dark Rockman was right you know, we have more potential then you accept. We can do so much to stop the hurt in this world,” his other self said softly. “Keep anyone from feeling this pain.”
Netto shook his head again, “No.”
His dark side smirked, “Don’t worry, it’ll all fall into place for us.”
Netto blinked, “Aren’t you supposed to be… evil? Why do you care?”
His dark side laughed. “Oh, please. Dark is not necessarily evil, just like light isn’t necessarily good. It’s all in the prospective. We exist because of choices and consequences of other people’s decisions and our own. I’m not evil, I’m merely a part of you that you’ve rejected because you’ve perceived me as evil.”
Netto shook his head. “I’m confused.”
His Dark side smiled, “It’s all right. Just know that I’m always here and even if I’ve been given form by the Dark Energy data to exist like this I am still you and you are me. We can be within each other and I’m always here.”
Netto nodded numbly, “Yeah,” he said softly. “You are.”
“I always was,” he said. “And I always will be.”
Netto shivered, “I know.”
“Good,” his Dark side said. Then put his fingers under Netto’s chin to force him to look at him. “I’m not evil, you don’t need to fear me.”
Netto smiled faintly, “Yeah, I know.”
His Dark side smiled and slowly vanished. Netto blinked and woke up in bed. “Netto-kun?” Rockman asked him.
Netto shook his head dazedly, “Yeah?”
“You’re awake,” Rockman laughed. “Finally. So, what do you want to do?”
Netto looked thoughtful, “Want to go to the park?” he asked.
“Yeah!” Rockman cheered. “We haven’t relaxed in awhile.”
Netto smiled and climbed out of bed. “Yeah, we need to relax a little,” he agreed as he ran out of his room to get ready.
Indeed, indeed. This just keeps getting better.
One quick nitpick--it's perspective. The word you have there stands for hope or a future possibility.
Oh, the strongest line of the chapter, and the one that tears open a rift into a new realm of thought--how darkness and light are not as black and white as many have made it out to be. The use of the flashback throught the chapter was a bit old, but it's certainly no less effective. Fantastic job.
Rockman left a sleepy Netto-kun in bed for the morning so that he could go and see what was going on in the internet that morning. He deserved his free time as much as the next person, right?
While on his way to internet city he ran into Roll, Iceman and Gutsman all coming back from an early morning excursion to get some new chips. After answering a few question from Meiru about how Netto was doing he continued on his way to the lively city.
Dark Rockman watched all this with interest from his vantage point way out of sight of his prey. In truth he had yearned to have a chat with his other self for quite some time and he felt it refreshing that he did not have to set anything up to get him alone. He wanted to talk to Rockman and Rockman alone.
Rockman began to feel that something was wrong when he reached the City. There were chatting crowds that ran around him as he looked from shop to shop but… something seemed off that day. Something was with him and he couldn’t shake the feeling that the particular something wasn’t something pleasant.
Finally after noting the presence for over fifteen minutes, Rockman ducked into an empty site and looked around cautiously. “Who’s there?” he called out.
A low chuckled resonated through the empty space, making Rockman shiver involuntarily. “Ah, my dear Rockman, I should have known you would have felt me so soon,” Dark Rockman said with a grin as he let himself be seen.
Rockman took a step back but held his ground. The last thing he needed was a fight in the middle of the city on a busy day. “What do you want?” he asked warily, making sure that he was position between Dark Rockman and the link that led out of the empty web page.
“I just wish to talk,” Dark Rockman said in an earnest voice. “I promise you that I wish you no harm…” he paused and licked his lips, “Today that is.”
Rockman’s features hardened into a frown as he surveyed his dark self. “What do you want to talk about?” he asked, fearing the answer that might come his way.
Dark Rockman smiled and leaned up against a pseudo wall that marked the boundaries of the web page. “Netto-kun,” he answered simply.
“Obviously,” Rockman said dryly. “Why?”
“Oh please, you know perfectly well why. Netto-kun is the balance between us and you know it. Because he is with you is the reason I can’t win,” Dark Rockman sneered.
“Do you honestly believe that?” Rockman asked him, crossing his arms over his chest and adopting a stern look to try and mask the apprehension he felt.
“I do,” Dark Rockman answered with a grin. “You know the last time we met I infected him with dark energy. He’s not the same precious little brother you once knew.”
Rockman scowled, “I highly doubt that,” he snapped back.
“Oh, but it’s true!” Dark Rockman said imploringly in a sickly sweet voice. “Netto-kun may be good at hiding it but he can no longer ignore his dark side. Don’t worry though, I’m sure everything will turn out perfectly fine.”
Rockman shook with the effort it took to not launch himself at the Dark Navi. Dark Rockman sensed this and laughed mercilessly. “You’re worried now, aren’t you? I can tell because of the way you’re glaring at me. It’s all my fault isn’t it? Everything is my fault. Because you’re too weak to blame yourself.”
Rockman shook his head, “You’re wrong. I’m not worried because I know that Netto-kun can overcome it. He always has and he always will. You’re just not giving him enough credit.”
“Is that so?” Dark Rockman asked and vanished only to reappear behind Rockman. Rockman took in a sharp breath as Dark Rockman leaned over his shoulder and whispered in his ear, “Maybe you’re not giving him enough credit, Rockman.”
Rockman stood there, openly shaking while Dark Rockman took it all in with glee. “I’m not going to stay hidden for much longer,” Dark Rockman told him. “I can assure you that. Take what little time you have left and savor it, because next time we meet,” Dark Rockman pressed his fingers into Rockman’s next. “I will kill you.”
Rockman’s eyes widened and Dark Rockman vanished without a trace. Rockman whirled around to try and catch some glimpse of the dark navi but it was no use. Finally, after calming himself he decided to go back home without getting anything. He was no longer in the mood to shop.
When he arrived back into his computer Netto was up and dressed. He turned around when he heard the familiar sound of his navi logging back into his computer. “Hey Rockman, are you all right? I thought you planned to stay there all morning.”
Rockman shook his head and put on the best happy face he could for Netto’s sake. “Not today, Netto-kun. I ran into some problems and I decided to come home early.”
Netto nodded, “Yeah, the crowded days can be tough. Wanna go to the playground?” he asked him. “I heard it was gonna rain later and I don’t wanna spend all day inside.”
Rockman nodded, “Sure Netto-kun. Let’s go.”
“Yay!” Netto cheered and picked up his PET. “I thought for sure you were gonna argue today, Rockman. You normally don’t like to take chances with the weather,” he teased.
“That’s not true,” Rockman protested. He smiled softly as Netto dashed outside to play for a bit before the rain came. Whatever Dark Rockman had told him about Netto’s dark side wasn’t true. It couldn’t be.
Dark Rockman is soooo creepy, isn't he? XD
Heh...that's really good, Neko. Dark Rockman does give off the creepy factor, and the way he places the seed of doubt in Rockman is really nice as well. I liked how he and Rockman just talk instead of trying to kill each other for once, as it gives them both some needed characterization.
Great job.
Wow. He certainly is, especially the way that you characterize him here.
I liked how you made Dark Rockman to be quite threatening, but not in the direct way. Through your words you have him being very subtly intimidating, yet still strong enough to instill the greatest amount of fear into his double. There are alternate ways of crushing your opponent rather than simple hand-to-hand melee--and Dark Rock proved that all too well.
Fantastic job.
It was a gray and rainy day at the Hikari residence. Outside the dismal rain kept its incessant pattering on the window and every once in awhile the low rumble of thunder could be heard in the distance. However, this didn’t keep Netto from jumping around his room like the hyperactive twelve year old he was.
“Soooo…” Netto said slowly while hanging upside-down from his bed. “What do you want to do?”
Rockman sighed, he was slightly irritated with his twin at the moment for being so… restless. “Can’t you just relax for a little bit?”
“But I’m bored!” Netto said imploringly. “Come on, Rockman, there has to be something to do.”
Rockman rubbed his forehead, “Netto-kun, it’s raining, there’s a thunderstorm on the way and mama told us to stay put, I’m sorry but we can’t go anywhere. Why don’t you play a game or something?”
Netto raised an eyebrow, “Testy?” he asked.
Rockman caught himself and frowned, “A little,” he admitted. “I’m sorry, Netto-kun, but I’m just really tired lately.”
Netto frowned as his featured melted into that of a concerned little brother. He flipped off his bed and walked over to his PC where he peered at Rockman. “Are you okay?” he asked gently.
Rockman held up his hands, “No, no, I’m fine Netto-kun. Seriously, I’m perfectly all right.”
Netto frowned and tried to detect any other emotions coming from his navi. “Rockman…” he said softly.
“I’m fine,” Rockman told his twin. “I promise.”
“It’s about Dark Rockman, isn’t it?” Netto asked suddenly, crossing his arms.
“Huh?” Rockman asked. “No, what gave you that idea?”
“You’ve been uptight for awhile, Rockman. We haven’t heard from or about him for weeks and you’ve been acting weird lately. What happened?”
Rockman chewed his lower lip. “Well…” he sighed. Sometimes Netto could be a little too insightful for his own good.
Netto blinked, then he realized he had touched on something. “I knew it, something did happen. What?”
Rockman sighed, “I talked with him a few days ago,” Rockman admitted. “In internet city. He said some things that made me a little worried, that’s all.”
“And?” Netto pressed.
“I’m dealing with it,” Rockman said evasively. “He didn’t attack me or anything.”
Netto sat in his chair in front of the computer and frowned. “Rockman, you’re not telling me everything. What’s bothering you?”
Rockman looked at Netto with his green eyes and smiled softly, “Nothing,” he said. “Or at least, nothing that you can really help with.”
Netto looked upset, “Rockman, come on, I’m trying to help you here. Keeping these things a secret from me will only hurt us both in the long run.”
Rockman frowned, of course Netto was right in that respect, but how was he supposed to ask…
“Ask what?” Netto inquired.
Rockman blinked, “I… Netto-kun!”
Netto looked sheepish, “Sorry, nii-san, but I want to know what’s going on. You’re beginning to worry me.”
Rockman took in a deep breath and let it out slowly. “All right, when Dark Rockman talked with me the other day he brought up something…”
“Yes?” Netto asked.
Rockman looked to the side, as if afraid to ask it. “Netto-kun, do you have a Dark side, like I do?”
Netto blinked, “Is that what was bothering you?” he asked softly.
Rockman nodded numbly, knowing that Netto’s sudden change of topic had all but answered his question.
Netto looked a little upset as the silence stretched between them. It seemed like hours passed before Netto took in a deep breath, “Yeah,” he admitted.
Rockman’s green eyes widened, “So, he was telling the truth then.”
Netto shook his head, “It’s not the way you or Dark Rockman are thinking though,” he said quickly.
Rockman looked up at Netto. “What?”
Netto blushed, “Well… I’ve talked with my Dark side, once before. It’s… I’m…” he sighed, “It’s different from Dark Rockman. I’m not sure how to explain it, but it is.”
Rockman sat down on the floor of the net and took several deep breaths. “It’s the Dark data that did this, isn’t it?”
Netto nodded, “Yeah, it is. There’s not much either one of us can do about it either,” he sighed.
‘And you would want to?’ his other self asked, slightly offended.
‘Where did you come from,’ Netto growled.
‘This was too interesting to pass up,’ his Dark self said cheerfully. ‘Besides, it has to do with me, right?’
Rockman looked concerned, “Are you sure it’s not… dangerous at all?”
‘Please, like I’d wish harm to myself,’ his Dark side scoffed. ‘I let you do what you wish whenever, it’s not like I’m trying to take over you or anything.’
Netto was silent for a bit then he replied, “I don’t think so.”
Rockman sighed, “I was afraid something like this happened but…”
“Is that why you’ve been so silent lately?” Netto asked him. “You were worried about that this whole time?”
Rockman nodded.
“Why didn’t you just ask me?” Netto asked softly.
“I was afraid too. I mean, you seemed fine, and so I didn’t want to trigger anything…”
Netto frowned. “Why the worry?”
“I don’t want to loose you,” Rockman said in a low voice.
‘Hey,’ his Dark side poked him mentally.
‘What?’ Netto asked crossly.
‘Why don’t you let me talk to him for a bit?’ he inquired.
‘Now what in the hell would possess me to do that?’ Netto snapped.
‘I promise I won’t do anything. I know you want to stay with Rockman; I just want to talk to him, that’s all. It’s not like I can say anything you don’t want me to, right?’
‘I guess…’ Netto said slowly.
‘You’re right, I’m not like Dark Rockman because I’m not born of pure darkness like he is. I’m spawned from human emotion. Negative emotions perhaps, but not evil. I’m merely another facet of your personality, so it’s not as if I could break away from you and fight you like Dark Rockman does with Rockman.’
Netto frowned and Rockman looked at him. “Are you all right?” he asked Netto.
Netto blinked, then nodded slowly. “Yeah,” he said softly. ‘All right, but don’t say or do anything to upset him, or I’ll take over.’
‘You have my word,’ his Dark self said seriously.
Netto sighed and closed his eyes.
“Netto-kun?” Rockman asked worriedly.
Netto opened his eyes, and they shifted to a blood red hue. “Hello,” he said cheerfully.
Rockman was taken aback, “Netto-kun?” he gasped.
“His specific Dark personality, to be exact. It seems that I’m the topic of choice these days,” he said with a faint grin.
“What have you done with Netto-kun!?” Rockman demanded angrily.
“Relax,” Dark Netto said gently. “I didn’t do anything, this was entirely our choice.”
“What?” Rockman asked.
“We have a different relationship,” Dark Netto explained. “While you and Dark Rockman are fighting opposites, the light side of Netto’s personality and myself are more of a… balance if you will. Human emotions are hard to manipulate,” he said softly. “You cannot change them as you can data. I’m not like Dark Rockman for that reason.”
“What are you?” Rockman asked him.
“I am your precious Netto-kun,” he said with a smile. “Just a different part of the personality. I am not seen often because the light side tries to keep his dark emotions in check. Similar to what you did.”
“I’m confused,” Rockman admitted.
Dark Netto sighed, “Think of it this way, the only reason I can talk to you as a different personality altogether is because of the Dark data that Dark Rockman forced us to absorb. It mixed with Netto’s negative emotions and created a separate personality from it. So, anger, sorrow, feelings of loneliness, helplessness and even hate are within me. Meanwhile, the light side retains the feelings of happiness, hope, joy, love and so on. However, one cannot and will not dominate the other because in order for a human to live on they must feel all of those emotions. Dark Rockman kinda messed around with that a little too much.”
“Apparently,” Rockman said dryly.
“I’m not evil, and my light side isn’t good,” Dark Netto said with a smile. “We’re just two halves of a whole personality. That’s all, I assure you.”
“So, you’re not going to join Dark Rockman?” Rockman asked softly while ringing his hands behind his back.
Dark Netto laughed, “Is that what you were afraid of? Being abandoned by us? I promise you that isn’t the case. Nor will it ever be. I’m more inclined to lean towards Dark Rockman’s ideals but not enough that I’d actually join him. That’s your demon, Rockman and you have to deal with him.”
Rockman smiled as he felt a huge weight lift from his chest. “Does your side of the personality also have the intelligence?” he teased.
‘Not funny,’ Netto muttered.
Dark Netto smiled, “I’d like to think so,” he nodded. “It’s a different ideal, in a human, Rockman. I know it’s weird for it to come out like this but there really isn’t much anyone can do. All I can promise is that I won’t turn to Dark Rockman and I won’t ever wish harm to my light side. However I do exist and I do feel anger and even hatred towards several individuals in our lives. Be careful of that,” he warned.
“Who?” Rockman asked.
Dark Netto shook his head, “Dark Rockman happens to be one but there are others that you probably shouldn’t know.”
Rockman sighed. “All right. I won’t ask.”
Dark Netto nodded and closed his eyes, and when they opened again they were once again a warm chocolate color. “Still worried?” Netto asked.
Rockman shook his head. “Not as much. Although it sets me on edge.”
Netto smiled softly, “Yeah, me too,” he admitted. “But it’s not my Dark side that is the enemy,” he pointed out.
Rockman nodded, “It’s mine,” he agreed. “And he’s going to come soon.”
That was fine, I'm sure. Actually...I never really thought of it that way until you brought it up.
And a "darker" Netto appears. He seems to be quite rational--in sharp contrast to the side that we usually see. I must say, you did his dark side quite as well as you did when you first introduced him. Hopefully, you won't have the switch happen so often, since its parallel in YGO wasn't exactly the best, but I still look forward to whatever you have in store.
Dark Rockman toyed with a small ball of dark energy as if it were a toy. Pushing it this way and that way and whichever way as he looked at it with an almost tender expression. “I wonder how much longer?” he asked himself gently. “I know the Net Saviors got my signal, they’ll be here soon.”
His ruby eyes flicked up to the screen to see several net saviors running into the building however he really only cared about one. “Hello, Netto-kun,” he said to the monitor with a smile. He raised his fingers and snapped them, and the signal he sent caused several of the net appliances around the net saviors to go berserk.
Netto blinked then plugged in Rockman. “Go!” he yelled.
Rockman nodded and fired his buster off in a succession of volleys that hit the programs and stopped the net appliances. Faster then anyone could blink there was a hum as a dimensional area came down over the building and then there was a deep chuckle in the back ground as Rockman stepped forward. “As expected, Netto-kun.”
Netto glared at the navi and took a step back, “What do you want?” he hissed.
Rockman quickly logged back into his PET, just in case anything happened.
Dark Rockman vanished, then reappeared behind the boy. “Come now, you know exactly what I want, little brother,” he said with a tiny grin playing on his lips as he wrapped his arms around Netto’s waist and logged out with him.
Netto shut his eyes tightly as they made the trip back to that strange room he was in before when Dark Rockman had forced the dark data into him. Only this time he had Rockman, so at least there was some semblance of a fair fight this time around. If he ever learned what was going on that is.
Dark Rockman let Netto go and the child whirled around to shove the dark navi away from him. “Leave me alone!” he yelled.
Dark Rockman stumbled backwards then looked up at Netto with a smile, “Oh? Is that the greeting I get after all this time?”
Netto glared at him, red slowly beginning to mix in his eyes as he glared at the navi in anger and distrust. “Why do you keep doing this?” he hissed.
Dark Rockman shrugged, “Because I want to win,” he said with a smile. “That’s all I’ve ever wanted. And you are how I can do that, Netto-kun.” He held out his hand to Netto and gave him a genuine smile, “Please?”
Netto glared at his hand, then fixed the navi with a gaze as red as his own. “Never,” he said with venom in his voice.
“Netto-kun…” Rockman said softly.
Dark Rockman blinked and let a brief look of surprise pass over his face before it melted back into its bland mask of disinterest. “So, the dark data did affect you. Just as I thought, you are no normal human, Netto-kun.”
Netto crossed his arms, his temper slowly getting the better of him. “Dark Rockman, I want you to leave us alone,” he told the navi.
Dark Rockman smirked, “You think I’ll just say ‘oh yes, whatever you say little brother,’ do you?”
Netto’s scowl deepened and Rockman could feel his anger radiate through the link as if it were a tangible energy. Finally, Rockman decided to take matters into his own hands. /Calm down!/ he commanded loudly.
Netto blinked and let his arms fall to his sides limply. /Calm… right,/ he said slowly. He shut his eyes and when he opened them again they were brown and looked sad. “Dark Rockman, stop. I don’t want to argue with you anymore. Rockman and I just want to get through by ourselves.”
Dark Rockman chuckled, “And you think I’m the kind of navi that will just follow your every whim? I’m not that kind of person, Netto-kun.”
Rockman finally found the link that was keeping Dark Rockman tethered to the real world. He entered it and appeared next to Netto, facing Dark Rockman grimly. Netto’s eyes flicked to Rockman in momentary surprise, Rockman smiled and nodded then placed his hands on Netto’s shoulders. “And neither am I. Netto-kun has never used me as a tool and he never will. Our link isn’t something you can just disregard, Dark Rockman. It’s something far more precious then you will ever come to know of.”
Dark Rockman glared at them for a second before letting his demeanor return to it’s calm and condescending way. “I am also linked,” he said while giving Rockman a smile. “Because I am apart of you. I am spawned from you and I have every hate and distrust and evil though you ever have had cross your mind.”
Rockman’s grip on Netto’s shoulders tightened. “This isn’t a matter of who is better, Dark Rockman. This is about your choices. Netto-kun doesn’t have a dark side the way we are and you’re the one who will be hurt because of it.”
Dark Rockman crossed his arms, “Oh? I fail to see how Netto-kun having a dark side can be bad for me.”
Netto smirked and looked up and Dark Rockman with his red eyes again. “Oh?” he asked while glaring at the navi. “My emotions aren’t manipulated by the data, Dark Rockman, they’re just separated. The only thing you did was intensify my hate for you!” he snapped making Dark Rockman take a step back. “You only saw the outcome you wanted to, rather then what could happen.”
Rockman took in a deep breath and hugged Netto. “Enough,” he whispered into his ear. “I know you’re upset but now isn’t the time. Please.”
Netto looked downcast as his hair cast a shadow over his face so Dark Rockman couldn’t see his eyes. “I still hate him for everything he’s done,” Netto choked out while clenching his fist.
“I know,” Rockman said. “And you have every right to be upset, but please calm down. Go back to being my Netto-kun.”
Netto leaned forward and buried his face into Rockman’s shoulder without saying a word.
Dark Rockman blinked at the both of them. “No…” he hissed.
Rockman glared at him, “Human emotions aren’t toys, Dark Rockman!” he yelled as tears sprang to his eyes. “This isn’t how you treat someone you love and care for!”
Dark Rockman blinked, “Love?”
Rockman held Dark Rockman’s gaze with his own, “You did come from me,” he said with a tiny, wavering smile. “I fail to see how you couldn’t love Netto-kun at least a little bit.”
Dark Rockman glared at his other half, “Who do you think you are…”
“I’m you,” Rockman said simply. “I know you, and I know what your thoughts must be. Please, I’m begging you, stop this.”
Netto took in a deep breath and let go of Rockman. “Sorry,” he murmured.
Rockman ruffled Netto’s hair, “It’s okay. We all snap at some point,” he smiled. “Goodness knows Laika has many times.” This comment drew a watery chuckle from his twin as he turned to face Dark Rockman again. “Please,” he said again.
Dark Rockman looked at his other half and glared at him, “Never. I will overcome you and defeat you, no matter what!” he hissed.
Netto took a step back and pulled out his PET. “Fine then…” he growled.
/Just an area steal, please,/ Rockman told him.
Netto looked at his navi, surprised. /What, why?/
Rockman gave him a mysterious smile, /Trust me./
Netto held his gaze, then smiled, /Okay,/ he said while pulling out an area steal battle chip. /I trust you./
Dark Rockman summoned his buster and fired a shot at Rockman, but he vanished from the spot in a burst of speed. He appeared behind Dark Rockman and caught his fist as he whirled around angrily. “It’s okay,” he said softly, looking at his other self with kind eyes.
Dark Rockman pulled back, but Rockman tightened his grip as his icon began to glow. Dark Rockman’s resonated unwillingly and he felt himself get pulled into the data stream…
