Well, it's the holiday season, and I've been thinking about what I want to ask for this christmas. Today, I went to my friend Tom's hose and played his DS. I've played one before, but today I was the first time I played Mario Kart DS. Now, I am a bit more of a Sony fan, but I've enjoyed the Mario Kart games since the first one came out. Overall, I was very impressed with the game and how it played. My 12 year old brother also enjoys the series, and enjoyed Mario Kart DS, and we were thinking of getting 2 DS units at our local CostCo (a Mario Kart DS unit and an Electric Blue DS). The only problem is; are there anyother great games for the DS? I've dug up a few titles, and was wondering if you could comment on the games (that I've heard good things about) so I can help make the right choice of games. In case you were wondering, both my brother and I enjoy puzzlers, racing games, and and sports games.
The games are as follows:
~Meteos
~Mario and Luigi 2
~Burnout
~Mario Kart DS
feel free to reccomend any more great games that I may have overlooked.
Bottom line: is the DS a smart buy or not? _________________

You have some great games on that list but stay away from Burnout Legends. Burnout Legends is perhaps one of the crappiest games to come out for the DS this year just to let you know. Sports and racing games (except Mario Kart DS) are not a strong genre in the DS, but there are other great games to be found on the DS.
My recommendations are:
- Advance Wars: Duel Strike (highly recommended)
- Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (highly recommended)
- Nintendogs
- Kirby: Canvas Curse
Advance Wars: Duel Strike and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow are two of the best DS games to come out this year. I clocked in so many hours on Advance Wars: Duel Strike because of the addicting gameplay and extremely high replay value. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is 2D Castlevania at its finest and one of the best in the series since Sympathy of the Night. I also put in Nintendogs if you enjoy raising a virtual dog and Kirby: Canvas Curse as it utilizes the best use of the stylus in this quirky platformer.
Buy a DS, you won't regret it. I have my DS for almost a year now and I haven't stopped putting it down. There are so many great games to play on the DS. _________________ Anything we assume at this point is an assumption. |

If you like platform games, then you should get Sonic Rush. It's one of the fastest games to come out on the DS this year. Instead of one screen showing the action, it uses both screens to vastly expand how much of the surroundings you can see. Also, Kirby: Canvas Curse is another brilliant platformer that uses only the stylus to control the entire game.
On top of that, Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time is not only the best RPG out on the DS this year, it's also the funniest. There's rarely a dull moment in this game. Finally, if you're a pinball fan, then Metroid Prime Pinball is right for you. It combines pinball with elements from the Metroid series. Hope that helps. And to answer your question, Blues, the DS is a very smart buy. |

First of all, at this point, I'd recommend you avoid the PSP like the plague. Wait for Sony to drop the price on those and finish fixing the glitches in the early models, then it'll be a MUCH better deal. Trust me, if the PS2 was any indication, the first models will break and the later models will be both cheaper and superior.
I'd definitely recommend a DS, just not Burnout Legends. If I were you, I'd throw that out of your list and replace it with Advance Wars: Dual Strike.
And Unknown Neo, I'd recommend putting atrociously long URLs in links like this: Code: | link text |

Gameboy advanced sold 900,000 units this past november
DS Sold 380,000
PSP sold 360,000...personally i would get a DS the games on the psp are too expensive for something that i can play on a big console like the gc,ps2 or xbox, plus the fact that it cost around 300 for everything you need doesnt help either. If the games were cheaper then maybe but there is no ruch to go out there and get one. |

Thanks guys, I've read all of your suggestions. I have played Advance Wars: Dual Strike, but I find a certian mission (#13, where you have to destory the huge tank) a bit hard, and my friend and I can't get past it, so the most we would do is play multiplayer (I heard it's awesome). I really don't need Nintendogs, since I already have a dog and I can just borrow a friend's copy. As for Castlevania, I've never really played one of those games, so it's realitivley (sp?) new territory for me. And I heard Meteos is one of the best games for the DS as of right now. Can anyone who has it or has played it tell me wether it's a good game or not? _________________

I have Meteos, and I can describe it in two words: Ridiculously addicting.
And I'm talking a level of addiction comparable to that of Tetris Attack. 'Nuff said. _________________ Math problems? Call 1-800-[(10x)(13i)^2]-[sin(xy)/2.362x]. |

Hmm, hope this is also on topic-wise.
Anybody know of any great deals on a DS Lite so far? The best I could find better than the usual 129.99 price is GameCrazy, where it's 129.99 along with 12 free rentals of games or movies. Anyone else knowing anywhere else with a better deal? _________________

Given that this is the holiday season, and from my sources in the channel, DS systems are still in high demand, meaning that you are unlikely to find any retailer willing to sell you a system at less than the MSRP.
You could wait a few months for the MSRP to drop a bit, but I'd still say a DS Lite is worth getting. I got mine when it came out, and I haven't regretted it yet. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! I recommend New Super Mario Bros. and Final Fantasy III, both are really, really good games to have on the system
Of course as well as the awesomeness of Megaman ZX, probally the best Megaman game to come out in awhile (except the PSP games, because those are still frickin' cool) _________________ -Follow me on Twitch.tv-

Well for one, all of the errors Poochy pointed out a year ago are gone, so that doesn't count it out anymore. I personally love both my PSP and I take care of my friend's DS.
The DS lite is a definite recommend, since it is cheaper, and you'll have just as much fun. The PSP is more like a flashy, hypnotising thing. But if you have both you'll never run out of something to play. Games that are good are Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Metroid Hunters, and even the Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon Blue Rescue team. Also, everyone is going to love Pokemon Diamond and Pearl when it's finally released in the US and Europe. I, for one, and psyched about it still. _________________ http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?ref=profile&id=100000142872316

i've just gotten Final Fantasy III and i must say...it is a really good game. the only other RPG i have played is Golden Sun II, but im progressing like crazy (my party's HP are all above 1500). anyways, i'd also recommend Mario Kart, Meteos, Animal Crossing, and Electroplankton. i've actually traded in the first three i recommended so that i could get other Megaman games >_< and i regret it T_T ...so, im going to follow my own advice and get those games back! _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

I'm...actually gonna second the mention of Nintendogs xD; Aside from the taking-care-of-a-virtual-pet aspect, it's something to do with your time, especially if you're waiting somewhere and would otherwise have a wall to stare at. It also works, for me anyway, as a stress releaser. There's just something about tossing a ball with your puppies, I guess...
I'm also going to second Megaman ZX. I think it captures the charm of the other sidescrollers pretty well, plus adds on its new things. It can be a bit challenging here and there, but who doesn't mind that in a game?
Also, I'm going to tack on Brain Age and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, as well as second the FFIII mention. I don't have those games myself (yet), but I know someone who does and I've heard good things. _________________

From what I know, the DS is NOT region coded, which means you can play DS games from say...Japan with a DS or DS Lite from France. The only exception is Chinese games because support for the Chinese characters is only supported by the official DS and DS Lites sold in China. _________________ Slur > j00

Yes, I can confirm that you can play Japanese games on a DS bought in the US. Currently I am playing Bleach DS which was imported from Japan on the DS (not DS lite) I bought last year around June here in the US.
which on the subject, Bleach DS isn't that bad.. ^.^ _________________

Yeah DS games are Region-Free....hell, someone tell me why I saw Naruto 4 Import on DS for sale at Best Buy in E-Town, KY for $39.99????! They had a few copies and even had a sticker saying they was import and go to this one site to get a english manual for it. Crazy! Though the new Naruto coming out for DS looks nice especially since its the same fighting engine of the Gamecube games! *drools* Portable Ninja Battles! _________________ -Follow me on Twitch.tv-
