Will Megaman ever be real? Will we have the same type of technology as they do in the show in the future? I need to know. What's your opinion? |

Hm. Well, we're certianly on our way, I think. I mean, artificial intelligence is already gotten quite advanced, and I think we're well on our way to having the technology for it soon... dunno if it'll happen in any of our lifetimes, but hey, ya never know ~.=.^ _________________ Proud GriegaĆFaltzer shipper ^.=.^

I doubt we'll ever have Navis as they're known in RM.EXE. We'll definitely have the technology eventually, but I seriously doubt it'll be incorporated into cutesy little humanoid avatars.
I for one would much rather have a more traditional, Navi-less GUI that could actively learn and adapt to my computing habits, and function as a sort of autonomous personal organizer. Personally, I think a personality, especially with an avatar, would be a waste of valuable system resources. I have friends, I don't need to socialize with software.
But let's assume we would get Navis; it still wouldn't be quite the same as in the anime. Lest the world would lose every shred of common sense, the Internet would not be so intrinsically linked to real-world devices, Navis would not have the capabilities to freely manipulated the Internet, net battles would be superficial and would in no way damage anything, and security measures would not be pretty little 3D objects that could be blown apart by Navis and viruses, viruses would still operate by traditional means (rather than being cutesy little pseudo-Navis), and aside from some social networking projects, browsing the web would be similar to how it's done today. Why do I say all this? Because nothing presented in the anime is very efficient or useable from a practical standpoint. _________________ *placeholder* |

Well put Tachyon.
Personally, I do not want the world to run like it does in the anime. I do not wish for my life to ride on a computer. Think about it; would we all really want to be living in a world where a bus could explode from a virus, or the water works of a whole city freezing over? It's a scary thought, if you consider it in the long run. If you take the stuff that happens in EXE and add it to how much stuff is going on in reality, the thought of those two elements combining is pretty scary.
As for the concept of net navis; sure, I'd love for them to be real. It'd be great to have someone to talk to whenever you need to, someone to help out here and there. It'd even be great if there could be netbattles, to a small degree, at least.
In my opinion, I believe the concept of navis could come to pass, even the entire EXE world doesn't

Things have progressed far too differently from a much earlier point in the BN universe as opposed to ours. Their network is like a virtual reality for programs that seem to be based upon impulses of the brain, linked into every facet of their lives, while... well, ours took a different route.

Yeah, it would be cool, but wil doubtful ever happen. Humans just don't seem to be interested in creating AI. They still debate over when life begins, and who marries who. Just think about the debates over cyber life and Navi marriages. Would Medi be allowed to marry Rock. Can data truly love? See, a ton of questions. In short, it would be too disruptive. _________________

Dude, it's a cartoon! Sure, it would be cool to see Megaman in reality, but that will NEVER happen! Sure, we'll have the technology, but navis like that? No. |

Oh Okay. Well create something that could cause mass damage to networks and economies, and give it the ability to think by it self.

Of course.
If navis are given sentience, then what is to seperate them from humans? Why should they be subservient to humans if they have intelligence of their own and are able to decide for themselves what they are to do? If the navis as presented in EXE were reproduced in real life, there will eventually be one that will see this point and will strive to break this barrier. And then what? Plenty of movies have portrayed what happens when artificial intelligence becomes sentient, and not a lot of them show cooperation.
As Tachyon said--it's not necessary to have a program to socialize with. Many of the other functions of a navi are useful, but other than that, it's somewhat masked at best. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! This kind of thread has been seriously overdone.
There's no telling what the future will bring. Yes, it can be assumed that our technology will grow with each passing year, but who's to say that nothing will malfunction? Personally, I think having everything run by the Internet is a pretty stupid idea, if not dangerous. In addition to that, we may have advanced artificial intelligence in the future, but I don't believe it's a smart idea to give that to programs to make them almost as smart as ourselves. We have enough problems in the real world as it is.
Watching I Robot might help you understand. :P _________________

In addition to what almost everyone else has said, kids would get almost no education and would instead have their navis do it for them. It's not like some overly moral navi belonging to an kid having trouble with grades wouldn't be reprogrammed to give him answers. As big a fan of morals, the virtue found in the human race, and all that good stuff as I am, it bothers me how only a select few adults in a few organizations do much evil on the net. They make it appear that everyone else is innocent and that the world would run fine if it weren't for those pesky bad guys. My point is that humans aren't perfect. _________________ Formerly known as LunarSun

I, Robot was a rather crappy movie, in my opinion. Besides, sentient, self-aware AI could someday be possible, and it would not be in any way dangerous. How? Simple, just restrict the AI's thoughts to nothing more than subservience to humans. Something along the lines of Sansha's True Slaves from EVE, except with AIs as a base instead of human brains.

There's no telling where the Internet is headed, and for all we know, a Navi network might yet be developed, but as I've said before, I doubt it's heading in the direction of EXE. _________________ *placeholder* |

Navis do have feelings but it's built in their software not real feelings kinda like PS2 Games with A.I. software in them.
Roll would marry megaman probably and Mayl to Lan but that's along ways off. |

You claim to be 26 years old, yet your posts sound like they come from a retarded 12-year-old. Please, learn what a comma is.
I'm not even sure where to begin my argument. I might as well make a numbered list:
1. The PS2's processing power is quite weak by today's standards, so the AI code for any given game would be quite lame.
2. Game AI is a totally different thing from AI as most people imagine it. Let's start with the definition of artificial intelligence: mathematical models designed to mimic the appearance of intelligence. Ideally, games would try to predict what actions you're most likely to take and generate an effective counter. That's just some dumb code, not an actual thought process. Same goes with other aplications of AI today.
3. What AI research ultimately hopes to attain is a sort of synthetic intelligence - real intelligence created by artificial means. Navis apparently fall under this category. Thus, they could very well have emotions as well, in their intelligence would be designed in such a way.
4. That last comment is totally irrelevent to anything, the characters in RM.EXE are entirely ficticious, and this isn't another "OMG doz lan liek maylu!!!!!" thread. |

Hm...if it WAS real, then terrorists will scare us for life! Man, who the hell wants to be friends with a software. Plus, if it was real, that would mean Dimension Areas will also be real. Imagine the havoc that would be created by viruses! But it would be fun to cyber with a female Navi in a Dimension Area. =D
Btw, this is my very first post! Huuray! |

I have no idea what you just said.
Anyways, I highly doubt the entire reality of Rockman will be real. Reason: We're not that stupid.
There is no way we're going to make house appliances be controlled by a satellite, just waiting for someone to cause world panic.
Navi's on the other hand, might come to be helpful around your computer or something. AI is nearly impossible, but it could be done if a scientist was able to make a data code to change like a human's brain to situations. _________________

There have been several threads on this topic before...
An AI level equivilant to those featured in any of the Rockman series is, at the very least, another 50-100 years away, if not more...
Also, none of us can predict the future, so one can not really answer yes or no. _________________

I really wish they could be real. X3 Ah well, I can dream can't I?
And, like Zippo said, it'll probably be around 100 more years until our current technology even comes close to theirs. |

As everyone else has already said, it has been discussed many many times before, and there is no definite answer to this question. I have an IB essay which is pretty much partially on this topic. -_-; _________________
