Here is the first chapter of

Defying the voice of the King: Redemption

This story is set 3 years after EXE 6. *Possible spoilers*
Also, any events that happened in the anime, such as dimensional areas and cross-fusion are common knowledge only to scientists, although there won't be much of that in this fic.
I don’t own Rockman, or any of the Rockman universe characters. I do own Mugen.exe, Fuujin, and Kouryuu, as well as any other characters I mention here later.

~Prologue
The heavens roiled as two super-powers clashed over the URA-net below. A tremendous flash lit the area as Forte and Serenade were caught face-to-face, fist-to-fist. Forte’s eyes burned with rage. Glassy-eyed, a small navi stood below, an innocent voyeur to all this.

Forte leapt into the air. “Earth Breaker!!” His fist crackled with dark energy as he descended towards the golden lord. She spun as he approached, drawing the dark energy away, and around her. She stopped; the gathered energy came hurtling back towards Forte from behind her back. He raised his arm and fired his scatter-shot, dispelling the darkness.

Shots rained down from above. The glassy-eyed navi looked on as a shot spiraled towards him. He stood motionless, deletion eminent.

A flash of gold! The navi was surrounded by warmth. Serenade glared at Forte. “Leave the young one out of this!!” She spat. Forte hissed. Serenade glanced down at the wounded navi. She had saved it from deletion, but it was still badly damaged. Data was flickering and wisping away. Soon the navi would be but a memory. Serenade clasped her hand to her chest, and a faint glow surrounded the two navis.

Forte tapped his foot in impatience, and then looked towards Serenade. He chuckled. “This may be an easier fight than I thought.”

Serenade’s clasped hands pressed on the navi’s chest, forcing a spark of life into the pale-green navi. Serenade trembled slightly as she infused a part of her essence with him. Forte looked on tersely. The navi’s green eyes opened! Serenade sighed with a mix of relief and exhaustion.

“Behind you!!” The navi caught her attention. Serenade’s head snapped up and she spun around, eyes wide in terror.

“Too late!” Forte held Serenade by the neck as he hovered over the navi. “Fool! You would sacrifice your life for a useless navi-slave!” Serenade’s head rolled to the side the look down at the terrified navi. A tear rolled down her cheek.

“I’m sorry.” She muttered as Forte closed his hands around her neck. Her neck broke with a snap!

“Noooooooooo!” the navi shouted as something inside him snapped. A blinding flash of light lit the area. Forte looked at the navi with interest.

“Come with me.” He slammed the navi in the back of the head, knocking him out, then tossed him over his shoulder, like a bag of potatoes.

1~ Like the Racket?
It was a bright day in Akihara. Netto bladed down the street towards Meiru’s house, music streaming from his headphones. He screeched to a stop in front of her house. There was a red Vespa propped up against the front porch, and the door was open. Netto eyed it suspiciously.

Netto pulled off his headphones and shut off the music function on his PET. He glanced down at Rockman.

“Hey, I was listening to that!” Rockman complained. Netto put a finger to his mouth and motioned for silence. He pointed the PET screen towards the door. “Yeah, it’s a door. So what?” Netto slapped his face.

“Rockman! I think there’s a burglar in the house!” he whispered.

“A BURGLAR!!”

Netto clasped his hand over his PET. “Quiet! We’ll have to sneak in and catch him in the act.” Rockman rolled his eyes. Netto was always assuming things. Nobody would be stupid enough to rob a house in broad daylight, with Netto living next door. He’d stopped so many crimes before that it would be suicide. He decided to humor Netto, this time.

Netto tiptoed through the front door and into the living room. He saw something out of corner of his eye. A body on the couch! He grabbed his backpack and held it over his head, ready to toss. His textbooks would knock the burglar out, he figured. Reading them always knocked him out. He raised the bag high over his head!

“Hi Netto!”

“!“ Netto’s pack fumbled into the air as Meiru popped up behind him. It landed with a thunk on his skull. “Ow! Did you have to surprise me like that?” he asked, rubbing his head. The boy on the couch sat up and yawned.

“Wha's goin’ on?” he mumbled sleepily.

“Who is that guy?” Netto pointed crazily. Meiru pushed his arm down and led him towards the kitchen table. She grabbed a can of grape soda from the fridge and tossed it to him.

“He’s my cousin!” Meiru muttered calmly.

“You have a cousin?” Netto exclaimed, nursing his bruise with the cold can. Meiru nodded. The boy on the couch got up and left the room, rubbing him eyes.

“His name’s Fuujin,” Meiru explained as Netto’s eyes followed her cousin’s path out of the room. She poured herself some tea.

“Like the racket?” She choked on a sip of her tea.

“Netto, you’re an idiot!”

“Who’s an idiot?” Fuujin asked nonchalantly as he reentered the room, towel on head. He dried his hair, and then stared at Netto. Fuujin had rough brown hair that stuck out at odd angles. A stray strand of hair hung limp over his right eye. His eyes were blue-green, masked behind a small pair of glasses. He was slightly taller than Netto, and wore a red coat, with a blue-black shirt underneath it. He was only 17, but already had a small reddish beard growing. “Who’s he.” He thumbed in Netto’s direction.

“Fuujin, this is my friend Netto. Netto, Fuujin.” She motioned for them to shake hands.

“How’d he hurt his head?” Fuujin asked dully. Netto tensed up.

“Anyways,” Netto changed the subject, “Meiru, I was supposed to invite you to a party at Higure’s. It’s at six, can you make it?” Meiru thought for a second.

“Can Fuujin come along?” Netto tensed up again.

“Sure… I guess. I don’t think Higure will mind.” He let out a small sigh.

“Great! It’s decided then. Fuujin, get ready!”

“Kay.” There was a red helmet sitting on the couch. Fuujin grabbed it, and headed for the door.

“Where’s he going? The party isn’t till’ six.”

“Well Netto, I figured you could help me show him around town.” Meiru smiled as she walked out the door helmet in hand. Netto gave up and headed out the door.

Mugen you realise that the fic should actually be 3 years after exe 6, not that and Beast because he doesn't move in Beast, or hasn't yet plus Beast and EXE 6 clash to much as of now.

Other than that this was a good chapter.

And since it is post 6 and Beast according to you it should have SPOILER Warning in the tilte, or at least a possible spoiler.

Hmm. This should be good.

For your first work, I'm rather impressed. It seems that you have done an adequate job of the scenery, and the detail presented is quite accurate. My only gripe is that the little "prologue" is almost completely disjoint from the rest of the primary chapter--it was as if each was the start of its own bona-fide work. It also seemed that you did not characterize Serenade all too deeply.

Other than that, yes, I have to agree. Use spoiler tags. EXE6 is something that is still quite new, and the staff is less than conducive to those that violate this rule. At least put in the warnings.

This looks to be a promising fanfic. The prologue, even though it may seem completely unrelated, does bear some relevance to the story's development, like hinting at some climactic conflict or battle later on. The way you describe Fuujin makes him seem like a fusion of Yuu (the glasses) and Netto (messy brown hair). Quite an interesting read.

It is soo tough for me not to spoil the next 2 chapters. But I wont. In my opinnion my good friend your fic is of higher caliber than mine. Of course you seem to have better english skills than me, I have horrid problems when it comes to details and such.

I am looking forward to beta reading the next few chapters. And I look forward to helping you on them as well.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this is much better than your first fic, hopefully you don't abandon this one because it has potential, and isn't crowded with characters from other series.

actually Fuujin came from the same place as Mugen's sn. Samurai Champloo. Mugen Jin And Fuu. Fuu+Jin= Fuujin, which could translate as Wind god, but that would be more likely to be said as Kazejin, or Wind nationality. Or even Nothing Nationality, or god depending on how it was written. Seriously Mugen needs to sketch Fuujin and write his name in Kanji so we can tell for sure.

The reason I say that is Lake Ryuujin from Samurai X according to the notes on my dvd says it translates as Dragon God. but Jin can be writen with the Kanji for person, or nationality so it could of ment Dragon Person, or nationality. And according to mine and Mugens Nihongo teacher Fuu could mean "NOTHING". But one of the readings for wind is Fuu, and one is Kaze so fuu could mean a few different things. And I seriously want to see a sketch of what Fuujin looks like.

Thanks for the great reviews, and yes. Fuujin is a Samurai Champloo reference, but he's also from the racket. Good catch Vanilla Go Rilla. The prologue is a major foreshadowing. Forte took over as reigning URA king in it. He defeated Serenade. And the green-eyed navi will return later on. Well anyways, here's chapter 2. Enjoy!

2~ Making good relations, OK?

Netto cocked his head in confusion as he glanced at Fuujin helping Meiru onto the back of his Vespa. She slipped the helmet over her head, and then looked back at Netto.

“Getting on?”

“Hai!” Netto rushed over to the Vespa, then looked at it. “… There isn’t room for me.” A hand rested on Netto’s shoulder as Fuujin leaned in to talk to him.

“Netto-kun, you’ll just have to get a good grip on Meiru, and hope I don’t hit a speed bump, won’t you?” He ushered Netto onto the back of the Vespa. There was very little room for him to sit, but he sat down, all the same.

“Ready?” He paused for a second. “Good!” He slammed his helmet on, and the Vespa took off, with Netto hanging on for dear life! The Vespa stopped at the end of the street. “Where do I go from here?” He looked over his shoulder at Meiru and Netto. She gave him some directions, and he was back on his way. Netto trailed from the back of the Vespa.

“Are you sure you’re old enough to drive this!!” he yelled in terror.

*** 1 hour later…

“I’m glad that’s over!” Netto sighed as he peeled himself off the Vespa. He glanced at Meiru as she pulled the helmet over her head. Her hair fell cleanly onto her shoulders. She had been letting it grow longer as of late, and it was getting pretty long. He reflected on the past three years as he looked in her direction. Only last month he’d been living in Central, and he was glad to be back in Akihara. Back with his friends and loved ones. He yawned, and walked over to stand next to her.

They were standing in the parking lot across the street from Higure’s new house. They had just finished helping him with the move, and today was the house-warming party. Fuujin stood next to the couple, staring out at the misty mountains that surrounded them. It was getting dark, and a cold winter breeze sent a chill up Meiru’s spine.

“Fuujin, let’s get over to Higure’s. I’m getting cold.” She hugged Netto’s arm. It was warm.

“Okay.” Fuujin said as he set off across the parking lot towards the house. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a yellow PET. Netto rushed to join him, Meiru at his side.

“Is that your navi?” he said quickly.

“Yeah. His name’s Kouryuu.” He looked down at the Navi on his PET screen. It wore a traditional white priest garb, with gold trim, and had short blond hair. He wore a small golden crown, and held a cigarette between his lips. His symbol showed a red staff overlapping a gold circle. He glared up at the crowd of faces around his screen. His right eye twitched with anger.

“Heard of privacy!!” he snapped at them. Netto and Meiru leapt back with shock.

“Iyaa! Your navi is so rude Fuujin-san!” Netto trilled as he regained his composure.
Fuujin shook his head.

“He’s not that bad; you were just crowding him. Isn’t that right Kou-kun?” Kouryuu snorted and crossed his arms.

“Will you quit calling me that!!” his eyes blazed with fury.

“No.”

Netto chuckled as the group stepped through the side entrance to Higure’s house, sliding the glass door open. The living room was painted a bright yellow, and there was a large red couch in the center of the room. On it sat Shuuko, Yaito, Tohru, and Nanako. Tohru was sandwiched uncomfortably in the middle, between Yaito and Nanako. Mariko and Higure stood chatting on the other side of the room. Dekao clambered out of the kitchen, hands full with a huge tray of food, chef’s hat on head.

“Netto! Meiru! Hi guys.” Higure stepped away from Mariko to greet his new guests. “And you are?” He looked Fuujin up and down. All the heads in the room were staring at him. He introduced himself, bowing nervously.

Higure appraised his cautiously as he stood back up.
“Was the bow really necessary?” Higure questioned. Fuujin blushed. The people on the couch giggled.

“Sorry. Nerves, you know.” He explained. Netto patted him on the back.

“Oh… well I’ve had my share of those!” Higure replied. “Welcome to town!”

“Um, thanks Higure-san.” Fuujin replied, calming down a little. He looked at the group on the couch, and then walked over to introduce himself.

***1 hour later…

“… And that was when the fish fell on Masa’s head!” Higure finished his story. Everyone laughed. Higure eyed the clock. “It’s getting late huh?” Meiru glanced at her watch.

“Fuujin, we’d better head home!” She grabbed her bag. As she stepped towards the front door the lights went out. “Huh? Did I blow a fuse?” She glanced down at her bag, checking to see if she’d knocked a cord out of its socket. Higure stopped talking. He heard an ominous laugh coming from a console on the wall.

“Plug in Numberman!” The beam of light hit the sensor on the wall-mounted security computer. The others followed suit.

“Plug in Rockman!”

“Plug in Roll!”

“Plug in Aquaman!”

“Plug in Kouryuu!”

The four beams of light hit the sensor in unison. The group materialized within.

It was dark in the security system’s cyber world. Rockman looked around for a sign of enemies. Something flew at Rockman, squeaking.

“Aghhh! A ghost!” Rockman ran around waving his arms wildly. Kouryuu stuck out his foot. Rockman fell flat on his face.

“It’s just a bat!” he snapped at Rock. Rock blushed in the darkness. A faint squeaking was heard in the distance. Kouryuu pulled out his silver revolver. He spun the barrel, and waited. A pitch-black figure slid towards them.

“Who are you?” Roll shouted at the figure. She couldn’t tell, but it looked like it was grinning.

“999” the caped figure whispered with icy breath.

“What?” Whooshed Aquaman.

“1 to go!!” The caped figure glowed red as it attacked…
“Flame Tower!!”

Here's the next chapter!! Enjoy, and give any comments you think need to be made.

3~ Glinting With Glee…

“Flame Tower!!” A flame tower lit the area as it rolled towards Rockman. Aquaman moved to block the towering flames, summoning his water faucets.

“Aqua Stream!” The stream hit the flames, surrounding the area with a billowing cloud of steam. Numberman scanned the area for the villain.

“Dark Beam!!” A beam of electricity shot across the area, hitting Numberman and Aquaman. Aquaman logged out with a whoosh, and Numberman quivered, stunned. Rockman’s head turned in their direction as the area was enveloped in darkness once more.

“Roll, any ideas on beating this darkness?” Rock questioned.

“Accessory chip slot in, Flashlight download!!” Meiru called out. Roll raised her right arm as a flashlight materialized in it. With a flick she switched it on, slightly dispelling the darkness around them.

“Great idea Meiru!” Fuujin exclaimed as he reached into his pocket. “ Fire blade, slot in!” The blade lit the area up a little more. Kouryuu swung it around, getting a sense of the area.

“Annoying navi. You dare use a flashlight in front of me. Well, I’ll make you pay for that. Ice Wave!!” DarkMan hissed as the wave shot towards Roll.

“Roll!” Kouryuu jumped in front of the wave!

“Barrier, slot in!” The wave cracked the barrier, but the two navis were safe.

“Thanks Fuujin!” Kouryuu raised his blade again. Roll spun to flash the light in Darkman’s direction. He hissed and sent a stream of bats in her direction with his Black Wing attack!

“Rock Buster!” Rockman shot a few bats out of the air, but more just kept coming.

“Number Ball!!” Numberman sent three 30-damage balls at Darkman, destroying the rest of the bats. Darkman glowed red again, sending another Flame Tower rolling towards Numberman.

“Mini Bomb!” Rockman tossed the bomb at Darkman, disrupting his attack. He glared at Rock.

“Dark Shadow!!” An axe appeared behind Rockman, and he spun around to dodge it. It hit him square in the right shoulder. Pixels streamed from his wound as he clutched at his shoulder. He collapsed.

“Rock!” Roll dashed to Rock’s side to tend to the wound. Kouryuu looked on distractedly. He turned to look at Darkman, and raised his blade once more, sighing.

“If no one else is gonna’ fight him, I’ll have to!” He leaped into the air, landing on top of Darkman, with a downward stab. Darkman let out a scream as he shook the navi free from his shoulders. While Kouryuu fell he pulled his gun from a pocket in his robes, and strafed at Darkman.

***Meanwhile…

“Roll, use this on Rockman!” Meiru slid a Recovery 80 chip into her PET. Roll bent over Rockman and focused the chip data into him. His eyes opened and he got to his feet.

“Thanks Roll,” he said as his face-guard slid over his mouth. A blade slid out from his palm as he trudged towards Darkman, a serious look on his face.

Kouryuu was in the middle of fending off an axe assault with a newly downloaded Aqua Blade. His head turned in Rockman’s direction, and he gave a wry smile.

“About time you got over here!” He knocked the axe away with an upward slash. Several holes opened up beside him.

“Black Wing!”

Fuujin looked at Netto, and Netto nodded.

“Rock Cube, slot in!” A stone rubix-cube appeared in front of Kouryuu, and he stepped to the left, clearing the way for Rockman.

“Airshot, slot in!” A stone rubix-cube appeared in front of Kouryuu, and he stepped to the left, clearing the way for Rockman.

“Air Shot!” Rockman shot the cube, and it sped towards Darkman with a burst of air and rubble! The cube hit, knocking shrapnel left and right. Darkman’s eyes glinted with glee.

“Did his eyes just glint with gle…”? A blade hit Kouryuu in the back, smattering blood over his white garb.

“Kouryuu!” Rockman knelt beside his wounded friend. A lone tear ran down his cheek. Roll and Numberman rushed to stand next to Kouryuu. Rockman pushed them back, symbol aglow.

The two navi’s symbols glowed for a brief second, then Kouryuu’s data streamed into Rockman’s chest, merging with his symbol. A bright flash knocked Roll and Numberman back. When the light died down Rockman was wearing a new outfit.

Perched on Rock’s helmet was a small gold crown. He wore a long white monk’s robe, and held a red staff in his right hand. A sutra was draped over his shoulders. On his back was the symbol for heaven, and on his forehead he had a red chakra. He bowed his head.

“Thank you Kouryuu…” His focus returned to Darkman. “You will pay!” He pointed his staff at Darkman.

“Nyoi-Bo, extend!” The staff stretched across the field, quickly hitting Darkman in the chest. He slammed the staff down into the ground, launching himself into the air. The staff retracted a little as he raised it high over his head.

“Tenchuu*,” He sent the staff crashing down towards Darkman’s head.

A silver navi appeared, blocking the blow with a strange blade. It was pitch black, with no hilt or guard. He glared at Rockman, and grabbed Darkman. They both logged out.

Rockman let out a sigh of relief, disengaging Soul-Unison. Kouryuu’s data shot from Rockman’s symbol, and he appeared next to Rock, unconscious. Rock looked down to him.

“You fought well.”
A Kouryuu-Soul chip slid out of Netto’s PET.

Thanks for all the veiws! And now I will amaze you all with my fourth chapter (I apologize in advance)! Well, anyways, enjoy!

4~ Star Light, Star Bright!

An ocean breeze rustled Fuujin’s hair, bringing with it the smell of salt and seaweed. He looked out over the ocean from where he sat on the docks. A small lighthouse hummed as it switched on. It had been a day since he’d sent his navi in for repairs. He could remember it all, the rattling of the Vespa’s engine pulling up to the Science Bureau, Professor Hikari’s comments, and the feeling of uncertainty as he clutched his PET. He could still feel the soul chip in his palm; his navi’s last chance of repair. He looked out over the sunset, as the silence wrapped around him.

****
A cloaked figure leapt from roof-top to roof-top. With a bound he landed next to another figure. The cloaked navi pulled back his hood, revealing his pale-white face and dull green eyes. The navi wore a silver plate over the lower half of his face, and had wild white hair that stuck out in spiky clumps. On his back were two spears of light. His cape fluttered in the wind as he spoke.

“Forte-sama, Darkman’s plan failed, as you’d expected. He thought he’d be able to defeat Rockman so easily. The fool!” the navi spat vehemently.

“He will be punished. As for our next move…” he said something in a hushed voice. The white-haired navi’s eyes widened. He smiled darkly.

“Yes Forte-sama. I’ll round up the necessary navis.” The silver navi bowed with a sigh.

The sound of evil laughter shook the veil of silence around Net City.

****
As Fuujin sat a siren broke the relative calm. He spun to look at the Science Bureau behind him. In an instant he was pounding towards the building.

He burst through the door, crashing into a blue-haired scientist.

“What’s going on?”

“Someone’s just broken into the system. I just called the Net Saviors!” she replied, dusting herself off. A moment later the door burst open, and a brown-haired boy shot through. He skid to a stop.

“Netto? What are you doing here?” Netto spun to look at Fuujin.

“Net Savior business. Stand back!” Netto said as he pulled out his PET. “Plug in Rockman.exe!” the beam hit a nearby computer console. Fuujin could only watch helplessly as Netto went to work.

Rockman glanced around the area. The blue circuit board styled floor was pitted with craters.

“Starman.” Rockman muttered to himself. A red-haired navi stepped out of the shadows, right hand glowing.

“You called?” Starman taunted, opening a hole above him. “Kirakira Meteor!!” Meteors rained towards Rockman. Rockman leapt to the left, avoiding a meteor.

“Yo-yo, slot in!” Rockman leapt into the air as the launcher appeared on his right hand. With a spin he launched the Yo-yo at Starman. Starman smirked. A yellow blur appeared behind Rockman, catching his attention.

“Check it out!!” a ball of light spun into Rock’s back, knocking him to the ground. Brightman laughed maniacally as he stepped towards Rockman. Starman raised his arm, blocking Brightman’s path.

“No. That’s not what we came for.” Brightman frowned. Starman turned to walk away. A buster shot whizzed by his ear.

“Going somewhere Starman?” Rockman asked, smoke rising from his buster. Starman smirked.

“Brightman, you get the data. I’ll take care of this pest problem.” Brightman ran off, laughing.

Starman raised his arm to the sky again, summoning more meteors.
“Kirakira Meteor!!”

***
Off in a corner of the silver navi materialized. He gazed at the battle with interest.
“Let’s see how strong his rival really is,” He muttered silently.
***

“Anti Fire, slot in!” The first meteor left the hole, triggering the trap. The field was pounded by a burst of flames. Starman clutched his left shoulder, cursing.

“Shooting Star!” He yelled, launching a trio of blazing stars at Rockman. Rockman leapt to the left as one shot brushed past him. “Can’t dodge them forever,” Starman taunted, launching another shuriken.

“Sea Field, slot in! Toad Soul chip, slot in!” Rockman slammed his palm to the ground, covering the field with water panels. He dove into the depths of the nearest panel! Starman hovered over the field, summoning another storm of meteors. Red steam rose in the places where the meteors hit the sea panels.

“Toad Slap!” Rockman appeared in front of Starman, and leapt up to slap him in the face.

“Star Arrow!” Starman stepped back, launching a star-shaped arrow at Rockman’s face. Rock leapt back a panel, narrowly dodging it!

“Bubble Wrap, slot in!” A giant bubble sprang up around Rock as he plunged back into a sea panel.

“Check it out!! I got the data!” Brightman shouted from across the area.

“Then get over here and help me delete this pest!” Brightman leapt into the air, forming a ball of light in his right palm.

“Bright Beam!!” He threw the sphere into the sea of panels, evaporating them in a spray of sparks. Rockman was revealed on all fours, coughing. With a flash the soul unison disengaged.

“Ready?” Starman shot a look at Brightman. Brightman gave a crazy laugh as he jumped into the air. Starman pointed to the sky. “Star Burst!” He called, creating a giant ball of energy.

“Bright Charge!” Brightman launched a sphere of light into Starman’s Star Burst. With a clang the orb doubled in size. With a cheer the two navis threw the ball at Rockman!

“Bang, bang!” Starman and Brightman laughed.

“What! They’ve never used those attacks before!” Rockman screamed as the blazing sun sped towards him. It crackled with dark energy.

“Rockman!!” Netto screamed as he looked at his PET screen, too shocked to do anything. Fuujin’s eyes opened wide as he saw a silver flash rush across the screen.

The silver navi appeared in front of Rockman, digging his giant claw-shaped blade into the ground. The ball hit the blade with a burst of white light! Starman shielded his eyes. Rockman stared at the navi in front of him in shock. The navi had barely blocked the blast. With a flair the navi whipped his sword out of the ground, and onto his shoulder. He shot a deadly glare at Starman and Brightman.

“This wasn’t your mission,” he snapped. “You got what we came for, now leave!” With a curse Starman logged out. Brightman clutched his sides, laughing and pointing. “LEAVE!!” With a smirk Brightman logged out. With a sigh the green-eyed navi wiped his brow. A voice from behind got his attention.

“You’re that navi from before! You protected Darkman, but you saved us. What’s your deal!!” Rockman shouted. The silver navi looked at him sadly, before logging out.

“What just happened Netto?” Rockman asked in disbelief.
______________
Netto: “Stranger and stranger. The enemy just saved Rockman, huh? Gee, I wonder why”.
Rockman: “Eh, who cares! It’s dance time! Next chapter Dancing with spears! Yamatoman attacks!”

Yes, the Dubl-soul was fun to put in, but it may not last. Once I figure out how to use crosses I'll bring them into the picture. And for all you Bleach fans out there, I'm throwing in a reference! See if you can catch it. Thanks for the good reviews, now here's chapter 5.

5~ Dancing With Spears!

***Deep in the secret area of the URA net.
“Mugen. I am most pleased with you. Your mission was a success. But Starman tells me you prevented them from deleting a certain navi…” Forte looked at the silver navi with concern.

Starman spoke up. “Yeah boss! He stopped us from deleting Rockman! Are you gonna’ punish him like Darkman?” Starman’s voice was filled with excitement.

“Silence!” Forte hushed Starman with a look of contempt. Brightman chuckled. “You seem to think I wanted you to delete this navi. Do you know why I punished Darkman?”

“…”

“I punished him not because he failed, but because he tried. Rockman is mine! My rival! I will be the one to delete him!!” Forte slammed his fist into the palm of his hand. Starman gulped. “Still,” Forte went on, “You did get the dimensional area data. That does deserve credit. I’ve decided that I won’t punish you this time.” As Forte stepped away Mugen and Starman both let out sighs of relief.

“What are YOU sighing about!!” They both pointed at each other in accusation. Starman raised his hand to attack. Mugen drew his pitch-black sword.

“Enough!” Forte yelled. “Honestly, you fight like children! My God!” Forte tossed his arms up in complaint.

“Forte-sama,” a muffled voice interrupted.

“Yes Yamatoman?”

“Might I be the first to test out this new data we have gathered?” he asked calmly.

“Yes Yamatoman. We begin the attack tomorrow. Be ready.”

“Thank you Forte-sama.” From behind his mask you could almost see a jagged smile.

The rain drummed against the windowpane as Netto lay on his bed. He sighed.
“Rockman, about earlier…” Rockman’s PET lit up on the pillow beside him.

“I’m sorry about what I said. I didn’t mean to blame you for the loss.” A pillow muted Netto’s voice. He tilted his head up to look at his PET. Rockman had a concerned look on his face.

“It’s okay Netto-kun. We should worry more about who that silver navi was…” He paused for a second. “And they had us doubled-teamed, remember?” Rockman shot him a fiery look. He was still a little angry about their tiff.

Netto sat up, holding the PET in his hand. He glanced down at the screen, thinking. His mouth opened to say something, but a beeping from his Link PET interrupted him.

“What?” he stared at Enzan’s face on the screen.

“Hikari-san, you’re needed downtown,” Enzan paused as he considered Netto’s face. “Have you been crying?”

“Shut up! What’s the problem downtown?” Netto exclaimed as he stood up. A moment of silence.

“Two navis have materialized in the real world.” Netto shrugged.

“So what, it has happened before. Where’s this dimensional area?” Netto asked insincerely.

“That’s just it. There isn’t one. No area, nothing… You’d better get downtown quick, before there isn’t a downtown to go to!” Netto caught a tone of desperation in his voice.

“Okay,” he grabbed his blades off the floor and started lacing up, “I’ll be there as soon as I can!” Enzan’s face vanished from the screen, revealing a very worried Rockman. He raised a finger to say something.

“No time,” he said, grabbing the PET and slipping it into his coat pocket. He dashed out the door, in the direction of the Metro line. Ten minutes later he stepped out of the bullet train and into the pouring rain. A gust of water and wind pushed him back. He fought it, and ran to where Enzan was standing next to the station.

“Finally.”

“Where are they?” Netto questioned quickly. Enzan pointed towards the elec-tower. The sky above the elec-tower was a shade darker than the sky around it, and crackled and pulsed darkly. Netto and Enzan ran towards the tower.

Netto slammed to a stop in front of the tower. A clap of thunder lit the area, revealing the two navi. Netto stared in shock. A Rockman hologram appeared on his shoulder.

“Netto-kun, how are we going to fight-” He was cut off as the PET began to glow. A burst of light shot from the PET. Rockman appeared next to him.

“!” Netto let out a gasp as he looked at Rockman standing next to him.
“What just…” Enzan tapped him on the shoulder. He looked back and saw Blues. His eyes grew wider than humanly possible. “Whu, uh, ?” He gave a series of unintelligible sounds.

“I guess you’ve figured out by now that something very strange is going on here.”

“No kidding!” Netto scoffed, “but what exactly is going on?” the armored navi on the tower coughed, interrupting him.

“Ahem, if you’d draw your attention to us, the enemy!” Yamatoman leapt down, thrusting his spear towards Rockman! Rock jumped back a foot in shock.

“Netto! Who cares what’s going on. We’ll figure it out later! Right now we have to battle!”

“Reading you load and clear!” Netto remarked, pulling out a battle chip. “Tomahawk soul, slot in!” The chip slid in, but nothing happened. Rock glanced at Netto in confusion, raising his buster. Yamatoman thrust his spear at Rockman.

“Lets try again! Search soul, slot in!” again nothing happened, and again Rock gave Netto a look of urgency as he dodged another attack.

“Forget the souls Hikari-san! Use a real chip!” Enzan shouted as he sent Blues a long sword.

***
Blues darted up the side of the tower, leaping to land on the top of the platform. Rain splattered on his visor as he glared at Darkman. He hissed as he sent an army of bats at Blues!
***

Rockman leapt to the left as Yamatoman threw a spear.
“This isn’t so hard-” Rock stopped mid-sentence. Yamatoman’s spear tore into his right side.

“Never misjudge your enemies,” Yamatoman whispered into his ear. His voice was cold as ice. He jerked the spear out, and leapt two feet back, preparing for another attack. Rockman gaped, clutching his side.

“Netto-kun…”

“On it! Samurai Sword, slot in!” A katana appeared in Rock’s hand, ribbon streaming from the hilt.”

“Don’t misjudge it!” Yamatoman charged!

“I won’t!” Rockman ducked to the left, raising his sword to block the spear. Yamatoman smiled, spinning the spear around to use its other end. The spear’s butt drifted inches from Rockman’s nose. Rockman moved his sword wildly, barely blocking it!

“Hah! I knew that spear had a long reach! You thought I’d misjudge that, eh?”

“No.”

Yamatoman drew his spear back, then struck again. Rockman quickly raised his sword to block. Yamatoman’s eyes glinted menacingly. Rockman eyed him with a puzzled look, knocking his spear back with a sideward swing. His samurai sword vanished.

“What, you thought that was it?” He asked. Rockman was silent. “Well then, have I got a trick for you!” He rushed towards Rock, spear covered in rain and blood.

“Wide Sword, double slot in!” Netto quickly sent Rockman the data. Rock raised his swords, narrowly blocking Yamatoman’s slash. Their weapons clashed, locking them face-to-face.

“Yamato Break!!” Yamatoman’s spear separated into a three-segmented spear connection by chains. The segment with the blade swung in with clack! Rockman leapt back a few feet, a huge gash visible on his arm. His swords vanished as data mixed with rain. He clutched his side, wound touching wound.

“That’s what I thought you’d misjudge,” Yamatoman said as he draped his spear over his shoulders. “I’m not using a spear. It’s a bladed sansekkon.” He stopped to look at Rockman. “Will you even be able to fight with those wounds? Lets see if you can stop my next attack!” He raised his sansekkon, charging at Rockman.

“Barrier, Barrier 100, Barrier 200, slot in! Program Advance! Barrier 500!! A yellow barrier appeared around Rockman, stopping Yamatoman’s assault for the moment. He jabbed the barrier with the butt of his spear incredulously.

“Stupid bubble, pop!”

Rock looked on sleepily. The loss of blood was starting to get to him, but he swore he saw a silver bird landing on a rooftop behind Yamatoman.

‘Ne…tto.” He fell to his knees.

Rockman: "I'm a little preoccupied here Netto!"
Netto: "Well you don't have to be snarky about it!"
Rockman: "Netto, how would you like a spear in your side?"
Netto: "I wouldn't!"
Rockman: "Well, at least he's sensible! Next time on Defying the King, Dancing with Spears: Part two! We'll have to turn it up to 11 for this one!"

Here's the most recent chapter, leading to a showdown between two navi with very different views. I hope you enjoy!

6~ Dancing With Spears Part 2 (Bust Down the Walls Mix)

Rockman gazed dizzily at the spear hitting the barrier around him. Wild thoughts rushed through his mind. Where am I? Why’s this freak talking about bubbles? Why is that red guy called Blues? Wait! Blues? He looked over his shoulder. No good, he’s still battling Darkman.

Netto stared at Rockman in shock. “Arrghhh! How am I gonna get him out of this?” He exclaimed, reaching nervously into his pocket. He pulled out a trio of chips. I’m gonna have to thank Meiru once we get home, he thought, slotting them in.

“Holy Panel, Roll , Recover 300, slot in! P.A. BIG HEART!!”

I must be out of it, Rock said dizzily as a hologram of Roll appeared in front of him, slapping Yamatoman with her antennae. Rock laughed. “Yup, definitely out of it! Oh?” He looked up as a giant heart floated down on him. “Fluffy!” The heart hit him, and he felt a surge of energy return. As his wounds closed he got to his feet.

“Yamatoman!” Rock pointed his buster, and fired! The shot sped through the barrier, hitting Yamatoman in the back of the head. Yamatoman spun to glare at him, punching the hologram that had distracted him.

“I will forever hate pink!” He stomped towards Rockman, armor slightly tarnished. Rock lowered his buster.

“Big Heart barely scratched him!” Netto looked at the armored navi in disbelief. “I’m gonna need something big to stop this guy… I wonder.” Netto trailed off in thought. The sound of buster fire drew his attention back to the battle. He quickly drew out another trio of chips.

“Sword, Wide Blade, Long Blade, slot in! P.A. Dream Sword!! Sorry Rockman, but this’ll have to do for now. I’ve got to find the chips we need to end this!” Rockman looked at him oddly as the three-foot long blade appeared in his arms. Describing the Dream Sword as weak? He must have something major planned out, Rock thought as he swung the blade up, blocking the bladed section of the sansekkon. That, or he's on crack.

***Inside Netto’s head
Well… if souls don’t work… But then again, we’ve been able to use the Master Style without being capable of styles before. So…I’ve got to test my theory out!" He pulled off his pack, and dug into it, searching for something.

“You’re too slow!” Yamato jeered, thrusting the bladeless end of his sansekkon spear at Rockman’s face. With a shwak it hit, knocking Rock back slightly. Yamatoman shifted the spear in midair, and continued the assault, attacking before he could regain his composure. He struck from behind, but Rock spun around blocking the spear’s chain with the Dream Sword!

The chain rattled and the blade shifted, until it rested on one section. In a flash of lightning Yamatoman spun the third section, and it struck at Rock’s face a second time. Rock raised his left hand in an attempt to block the bladeless segment, but the force still sent him flying backwards on his back. Yamatoman taunted him as he got to his feet.

“Where did you get all this power. I don’t remember you being this strong before, when you worked for Serenade!”Rock questioned fervently. Yamatoman sighed.

“Must we live in the past! Forte-sama is my master now. His dark power surrounds us all. Even you.” Yamatoman chuckled. Rock looked at the sky.

“The darkness!”

“Is his, yes. Now if we’ll get back to the fight, I was winning!!” Yamatoman announced as he spun the tip of the spear tryingly. He stopped suddenly, his mood changing to that of fury.

“I’ll get you back for what you did to me! I hate pink!!” Yamatoman exploded, charging close to the ground. Sadly enough this comical moment was interrupted as Netto raised his hand from his pack triumphantly.

“Found them!” he raised his clenched fist victoriously, looking to Rock. “You ready to try something new?” A quick nod. “Good! Slot in Fire soul, Aqua soul, Thunder soul, Wood soul!!!” A bright light erupted from the pet, and bathed Rock as the program advance began.

"Master Soul!!"

Yamatoman was knocked backwards a foot by the heat and light. Rockman first flashed red, and went into Fire soul, then appeared in front of Yamatoman, hitting him in the face with a flame-arm. The flame arm went blue, and morphed into a hose as he became Aqua soul. He shot Yamatoman back with a burst of high-pressured water. With a clang! several points of light appeared behind his back, and he raised his arms summoning a large thunderbolt from the heavens. It crashed down, splitting Yamatoman’s helmet in half. For a split-second you could see his face. His eyes were filled with terror! Rock fell to one knee, placing his right hand on the ground in front of him. With a gust of wind he shot wooden spikes up all around Yamatoman. He clutched his chest, where a spear of wood had punctured his symbol. With a burst of pixels and data he collapsed. Rockman fell to his knees likewise.

Yamatoman deleted!

“We did it!” Netto raced over to help Rockman to his feet, propping him up on his shoulder. His head rolled forward to look at Netto.

“Thanks… that nearly killed me asshat!” Netto glared at Rockman fiercely.

“You wanna fight me too now!?” Netto yelled raising his fists.

“Hikari-san, leave your navi alone,” Enzan said exhaustedly as he trudged towards Netto. Blues had him propped on his right shoulder.

“Did you fight Darkman yourself?” Netto asked. Enzan glared at him.

“I got hit by one of his bats, okay?” Enzan sighed, holding his left shoulder. He looked at Rockman. “Oh for heavens sake, heal him!” He reached into his pocket with his right hand, tossing Netto a recovery chip. Netto appreciatively slotted it in. Rockman lifted his head to gaze at a nearby rooftop.

“The navi from yesterday!!” He yelled pointing. Everyone’s head spun to look across the street. The silver navi stood alone. He turned to leave.

“Hey!” Rockman said, pushing Netto away as he ran after the navi.

“Air shoes, Paladin Sword, slot in!” Netto quickly slid the two chips into the PET. Rockman leapt to the top of the tower, then jumped to the rooftop across the nearby street, hot on the chase. Enzan shot Netto a dirty look.

“Let your navi run around town alone, do you?” Blues shifted Enzan to his back. Netto looked at Enzan strangely.

“But, you’re…” He wanted to get Enzan to the hospital as soon as possible.

“I’m fine! Go! Help your navi!” Without a second look Netto kicked out his blades, and skated off on Rockman’s trail.

Blues looked at the two brothers as they chased the rogue navi.
“I hope they’ll be alright, Enzan-sama.” He said as he leapt Inuyasha-style towards the hospital.

Rockman: I'll get you, just wait! You'll pay for what you did to my friend! You'll pay for what you did to me!"
Netto: "But he saved you!! Rockman, get down here!"
Rockman: "No! He'll pay for what he did. He'll pay for saving me!"
Netto: "What?"
Rockman: "You heard me. HE's too dang confusing! I can't get a bead on him. Friend or foe, make up your mind!!"
Netto: Next time on Defying the Voice of the King: The Thrill of the Chase!"
Rockman: "If I catch him he'll be in for it."

Nobody replied -_-; . Well hopefully this next chapter will recieve some good reviews! Enjoy!
<A/N Mugen is supposed to resemble D.D. Assailant for all you Yu-Gi-Oh Players out there. His pitch-black blade is based on Ichigo's zanpakuto from bleach (Zangetsu, not his starter one). Also, aho is the Osakan dialect for baka, and twice as offensive in Tokyo!>

~7: And Now That All Walls Have Been Broken Down!

“Wait up!” Rockman yelled as he leapt off a billboard, bounding onto a nearby rooftop. The silver navi landed roughly, one rooftop ahead. He glanced quickly over his shoulder at his pursuer, green eyes glistening. A flash of thunder lit the area, forcing Rockman to briefly cover his eyes. The navi took this instant to attack!

He leapt at Rockman, reaching to his back where two spears of light hovered, as if connected by an invisible magnetic field. His left hand clenched around one of the spears, and with a burst of speed he drew it. It glowed briefly, and as he dove towards Rockman it transformed into a bulky claw-shaped blade. The blade’s handle was a tan-brown, and the navi’s symbol was in the center of the hilt, which was a part of the base of the blade. The symbol was two looked like an X made of slashes of green light. The navi landed at Rockman’s, bending his knees in a crouch. Digging in he launched himself up, executing an upward slash on the blinded blue bomber!

***
Netto pounded the pavement, furiously trying to catch up to Rock. As he bladed recklessly down the street, cars swerved to avoid him. He leapt onto the windshield of one car, using it for a ramp. He launched himself from the car’s roof onto a passing Moving-Van that was going in the opposite direction. With a metallic crash he slammed into the roof. This was followed by the sound of a sheet of metal rolling up. He fumbled for a grip in the rain.

***
Fuujin sat in a café near Main Street, sipping an espresso. He glanced out the café’s window to the nearby street, catching sight of a tuft of brown hair on top of a passing van. Hey that looks like Netto… he thought calmly. “Wait, Netto on top of a van! What the heck?” He splattered his espresso in the face of a nearby waitress.

“I’LL JUST LEAVE YOUR RECIEPT RIGHT HERE!!” Nanako said, slamming a piece of paper down in front of Fuujin. She spun with a huff, stomping off furiously. Fuujin leaped to his feet, grabbing the receipt and dropping a handful of en on the table as he dashed out the door.

***
The claw-shaped blade clattered loudly as Rockman drew his Paladin Sword up to guard. A second later and there would have been two of him, paper-thin. As he and the silver navi locked blades, he asked through gritted teeth, “Who are you!” The navi responded with silence, tearing the blade backwards, and out of the clash. Rockman righted himself and raised his guard again.

“Mugen!” The navi said in a slow rough tone, running at Rock.

“What?” Rockman asked, slightly confused. He dropped his blade to the ground, parrying a low-cut attack from the navi.

“My… name!” The navi grunted, forcing Rock’s sword up and towards him.

“Oh…”

***
Fuujin dashed down the street, chasing the van. He gaped with concern as Netto clung to the back door of the van, which had rolled up when Netto had slammed down on the roof. The van swerved as various pieces of furniture fell out the back. Fuujin narrowly dodged a recliner as he ran, vaulting over it like a hurdle.

“Netto!” he called, throwing aside a lamp. Netto responded with a yelp as his grip came loose. He flew backwards, landing in Fuujin’s arms, knocking him backwards with a jolt! By sheer luck they landed a few feet back, in a recliner. The feet of the recliner shot up on impact, and Fuujin groaned with pain as he shoved Netto off him. Netto got to his feet woozily, clutching his forehead.

“Ow!”

“Is that all you can say?”

“Okay, mega ow!”

“You idiot!! What were you thinking riding the roof of that van? What, is it a new sport? The Aho Olympics?” Fuujin questioned angrily. Netto rubbed his head, dazed and shaken.

“No. Rockman… Rockman!” Netto regained his train of thought, turning to scan the skyline. “Do you see him?”

“Rockman? Wait, how could I see him? Isn’t he a navi… are you all right Netto.” Fuujin eyed Netto questioningly.

“No, I mean, yes… I mean… Errrrr, listen!” Netto snapped trying to get a grip on the situation. He started explaining what had led up to his precarious situation, his stupidity.

***
“So, Mugen was it? Why are you fighting me… you saved me the other day. It doesn’t make sense, saving me one minute, attacking me the next. You’re acting like Blues!” Mugen’s eyes burned with fury for a second, but a flash of something else in them caught Rockman’s eye. He forced Mugen’s blade away with a newfound strength. With a shove they leapt away from each other again.

***
“And so that’s how it happened,” Netto finished explaining, smiling and sure of himself. Fuujin looked at him in shock for a second.

“That… is… the absolute dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in my life!”

“Hey!” Netto yelled.

“But I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt." Fuujin interupted. "There’s no reason you’d be stupid enough to try car surfing except that.” Netto nodded. “Well then, lets go find this R-Rockman you keep going on about,” Fuujin said, air-quoting the words R-Rockman. They turned and ran as Netto scanned the skyline for a sight of his navi.

“There!” Netto pointed. A speck of blue was outlined against the black sky a three buildings away. Fuujin gaped, his jaw dropping. He pointed.

“Rockman!”

“I told you!” Netto shouted as he took off towards the building. Fuujin shook himself back to reality (if you call it that) and shot after Netto. As they reached the building Netto’s eyes darted around.

“Look for a fire escape!” Netto ordered. Fuujin ran around to the back of the building. He came back a second later, shaking his head.

“No good.” He muttered. Netto sighed. “But I found out about something even better!” Fuujin exclaimed, dragging Netto through the front door of the building. Netto jerked against his grip.

“Fuujin-kun, this is a woman’s spa!” Netto yelled as he was dragged past a puzzled receptionist.

“Calm down, we’re just going to use the elevator!” Fuujin said as he pressed a button. Netto looked around awkwardly. They were right next to the sauna. Netto blushed as the door opened, fidgeting nervously. Fuujin looked at him, raising his eyebrow.

“Are you afraid of girls or something?” He shook his head.

“No, but Meiru will kill me if she finds out about this.” At this statement a finger tapped Netto on his shoulder. His head slowly turned to face the mystery-tapper. Fuujin could have sworn he saw Netto jump two feet into the air.

“Meiru-chan!!” Meiru tapped her foot, crossing her arms angrily.
“What do you think you’re doing here Netto Hikari!” She shouted. A ding came from the elevator.

“Sorry, no time to talk, Meiru. Rockman’s waiting!” Netto yelled, grabbing Fuujin by the scruff of the neck and quickly dragging him onto the elevator, slamming a button for the top floor. With a bing! the doors shut, concealing a muffled cry of protest from below.

“HENTAI!!”

“Busted!”

“Shut up Fuujin! You’re her cousin, and we can smooth that out later. Right now we have bigger things to worry about!” Netto muttered, pulling out his PET. Good, Rockman’s status is still out of the red, he thought. With a ding they reached the top floor. The doors slid open, and the two boys rushed out, catching sight of Rockman and Mugen battling a few feet away.

“Rockman!” they yelled in unison.

“Netto-kun!” Rockman cheered, kicking Mugen’s blade back in surprise.

“Fire Blade, Aqua Blade, Elec Blade, slot in!” Netto interrupted the happy moment. “Program advance! Dream Sword 3!!” Rockman raised his arms, replacing the Paladin Sword. A glint appeared in Mugen’s eyes.

“Zantsuku, appear!!” He called, reaching over his back. He clasped the other spear of light fervently, swinging it around to collide with his other blade, which, with a flash, reverted to a spear of light. With a green pulse he merged the two spears into one long shaft of light. As he swung it towards Rockman, the shaft quickly faded to black, and formed a blade. The blade was as long as Mugen was tall, and shaped like a crescent. A ribbon was wrapped around the handle, and whipped in the wind. Mugen’s eyes grew a bright green and as he pointed his blade at Rock, he motioned for him to attack.

A spark of realization hit Rockman. "-It was you the other day!" he shouted. "You attacked Kouryuu, not Darkman. That's why you were so quick to save him!" Mugen nodded silently. Rockman was suddenly filled with rage.

"You'll pay for that!" the incensed navi hissed.
His blade flared as he rushed at Mugen!

“Dream Sword 3!!” He swung the blade down. Mugen slung his blade lightly over his head, blocking the first strike. Rock wasn’t finished though.
“Round two!” he yelled spinning his blade over his head, gaining power and momentum. He slammed the sword down hard and fast. Mugen couldn’t block it!

With a burst of limelight the sword connected with Mugen’s right shoulder. Mugen leapt back a foot, clutching it with the hand he held his blade in. He shifted the blade to his right hand, placing his left palm on it.

Closing his eyes he began muttering something in an odd language. Rockman glared at him.

“Saying your prayers? You’ll pay for what you’ve done!” He charged at Mugen, blade held over his head. A vein of shock shot through Rock, Netto, and Fuyuki as Mugen finished his chant. His blade turned silver as odd runes swam over it. It was too late for Rockman to stop his attack!

Mugen jumped back a foot, slashing down with his blade. The ribbon trailed in the sky as the blade tore a hole in the air in front of him. Rockman’s eyes widened as he was sucked into the hole. Mugen leapt in after him!

Netto and Fuujin just stood motionless as the hole vanished. They stood like that for a while.

Thanks for the great reviews. The next chapter will be done soon (within the next three days). From here on out though the chapters will be a bit harder. Emotions and character devolopment usually are. I'll have to fight writer's block too!
