Before you read this I think that I should give you a bit of background. This is part of a series written in conjunction with Plantman (Planty) where Shademan and Burnerman are married and had a son, Swallowman. Swallowman then married Cosmoman and had a son as well named Larkman.

Larkman smiles as he flies around outside of the palace home that has been in his family for as long as he can remember, the small black and gold bird navi happy at visiting his grandparents, especially since it was a time of year for something he had heard his friends on the surface nets talk about... Christmas. The young navi set out to find out more about the mysterious holiday, much like he did about halloween, now filled with information on the subject he was ready to spend his first christmas with his family and experience it for himself. He spirals down towards the palace in a dive much like a dive bomber the read about from a history book of the human world, his body whistling in the air before he could hear no sound at all. Larkman pulls up a split second from impacting the ground, a sonic boom resonating through the air as he touches down as if nothing had happened, smiling at his increased speed.

"It would seem that a third generation darkloid indeed has abilities that are superior to normal ones." A voice states from infront of him, the boy looking up to see his grandfather standing at the door.

"Grandpa!" Larkman shouts jumping at the taller navi and wrapping his arms around his neck, hanging there almost like an obsceanly large necklace as he hugs the vampire.

Shademan smiles as he hugs his grandson, the black and gold bird navi easily fitting in his arms still despite the age of the boy. "It is nice to see you again also, it looks like your parents are letting you go out on your own now."

The dark clad boy nods as his grandfather sets him back down on his feet. "Yup, but they gave me an emergancy return link that I can use from anywhere to get back home if I get into trouble that I can't handle. But I always have my friends with me so nothing happens."

"I see, well lets get inside. I know your parents are in the den and your grandmother in the kitchen baking cookies for you I believe." The vampire says, escorting Larkman into the palace.

The young Larkman looks around the palace, his crimson eyes searching the walls and rooms as he walks into the den, his parents on a large sofa with his father resting his head on his mothers lap. "Grandpa, where are all the decorations?"

Shademan looks at his grandson with a raised eyebrow, "What do you mean? The palace is decorated the way that I like."

"I mean the christmas decorations. You don't even have a tree up." Larkman informs him, looking at him in alarm. "There's only a few more days till christmas, where are we going to put the presents?"

"What's 'christmas'?" Swallowman asks, looking at his son from the sofa.

The young bird looks at his parents and his grandfather, the adults looking confused as to what he was talking about and Larkman felt his heart sink. "You mean, you all don't know..."

"Darkloids aren't much for human things." Shademan states as he folds his arms over his chest, "The only thing we did was the Halloween party that you wanted."

Larkman's eyes start to turn glassy as they grow heavy with tears, the boy runs from the room quickly yelling. "How can I be the only one that cares!"

Cosmoman sits up as his wife stands, Swallowman looking at his father and then back at the door, running after his son. Shademan sighs as he lowers his head, bringing his hand up to massage the bridge of his nose, his crimson eyes closed.

"What's going on?" Burnerman's voice asks, the reddish pink haired navi entering with a tray cookies shaped like bats, stars and birds with light colored glazing. "I saw Larkman and Swallowman running from the room, what happened?"

"It appears that our grandson is heavily involved in the belief systems and rituals of the humans." The vampire answers simply, still massaging the bridge of his nose slightly in thought.

"Larkman?" Swallowman calls, looking for his young son. "Larkman, where are you?"

A soft sobbing sound catches his ear, the blue clad bird navi exiting through a door leading into the center courtyard of the palace. His violet eyes picking up the gold on his son's armor glittering in the faint light from above, the boy sitting and hugging his knees behind a grouping of rose bushes. Swallowman moves carefully over to his son, smiling as he takes a seat on the ground next to him.

"Larkman, are you okay?" The red chested navi asks as he puts an arm lightly around his son.

Larkman nods slightly, "I'm okay mommy, I just don't understand why I'm the only one that cares to know things."

Swallowman hugs the smaller bird navi to him, wiping away a few of the tears still left on the boys face. "Darkloids grew and developed without the help or use of humans so we don't really understand them or their customs. You are one of the few darkloids that spends a lot of time with the human operated navi's so you would know more about them then us, its not that we don't care its just that we aren't use to human things."

"But I was looking forward to Christmas." The young boy says sadly as he rests his head on his mothers chest.

"I know dear, but maybe next year." His mother coos softly, stroking Larkman's head. "Grandmom made you some nice cookies, think that we had better go in there and see if your dad saved us any."

"Okay mommy." Larkman says with a slight sniffle, getting up with the other bird navi and making their way back into the palace.

The young bird sulks as he spends the rest of the evening with his parents and grandmother, his grandfather called away at the last minute on business by an associate of his in another realm of the dark and forbidding undernet of the world. Larkman sits on his fathers lap, the giant of a navi easily dwarfing him as he rests his head on the armored chest, tired from his crying earlier. He nuzzles his face into the large chest of Cosmoman as he drifts off to sleep, the larger navi craddling him almost like a baby as Swallowman watches with a smile. The sound of a warp link opening and closing along with the flapping of bat wings alerts the older bird navi to the arrival of his father, Swallowman leaves the den quietly, intercepting Shademan in the hallway.

"What are we going to do?" The blue navi asks, looking up slightly at his father. "Larkman was looking forward to this christmas, and now that he knows that its not going to happen he is crushed."

Shademan closes his eyes as he lets out a grumbling sigh, "I will not submit to another beings need or want for a silly human holiday celebration again. Larkman is your son, so you are to take care of it yourself. Being that it is the 24th, I think that you will be hard pressed to find what you need."

Swallowman steps aside as his father walks past him into his private den, the heavy wooden door locking behind him and ending any further chance of discussion. The bird turns slowly to see his husband with their son in his arms, the young bird still sleeping in his fathers arms.

"Lets get him to bed." The red chested navi says sadly, "I'm sorry Larkman."

Larkman opens his crimson eyes slowly the next morning, shutting them against the bright light of the rising sun pouring through his window. The boy sits up in bed, his armor stripped down to just the body suit with a marking on his chest the same color as on his armor. He rubs his eyes as he sits there, trying to get his bearings as to where he is and what happened, the events from the previous day coming back to him. He lets out a sigh as he realizes that it is christmas morning, and that the darkloids don't celebrate the human holiday.

He swings his feet over the side of the bed and onto the carpet covering the floor, yawning sleepily as he stands and heads for the door. Larkman turns the handle slowly, stepping through the doorway as usual to head for the bathroom to get cleaned up for breakfast, he lets out a loud squawk as he feels nothing but air under his foot and falls forward into a link. The boy flaps his wings to steady himself, landing on the other side of the link effortlessly, and finding himself at a door. Curious he opens the door slowly, letting it swing open, light pouring out from the room beyond causing him to shut and cover his eyes. When Larkman opens his eyes again they fill with amazement as his jaw drops open slightly at the sight meeting him on the other side of the door.

He was at the family den for the palace, a large tree almost overflowing with ribbons, bows, ornaments, and gems rests in one corner with a series of presents gathered at its base. The mantle over the fire place sits heavy with decorations of a red christmas flower at the center and a vine sprouting white flowers along its length, stockings hanging from weighted candles with a different family members emblem hand stitched onto them. A tray rest on the small table between a sofa and two large high backed chairs, ginger bread and other festive cookies and snacks from around the world sit on the tray for the taking of those that wish.

"Is- is this a dream?" Larkman asks no one in particular as he looks at the room, more decorations hanging from the windows and along the wall.

"Its no dream." His mothers voice says from behind him, a pair of arms wrapping around him.

The boy turns his head with large red eyes to look at his mother, "Did you do this?"

Swallowman shakes his head, "I wish that I could take credit, but I can't."

"Dad?"

"It wasn't me either." A deep voice says from beside him, making Larkman look up to his right at his father.

"Grandmom?" Larkman asks, looking at his parents as he breaks from his mothers hug and turns to face them.

The fire navi smiles as he steps out from around a corner, "Uhm, I only did a small part of it. The main one that did this is right there."

The young raven haired boy blinks confused, a slight shadow falling over him. He tilts his head up to see the crimson eyes of his grandfather looking down at him, the vampire slowly cracking a smile. Larkman smiles back as he spins around and wraps his arms around Shademan's waist and legs, chirping as he gushes thanks to the elder of the family. Shademan smiles as he rests his hand on his grandson's head, stroking the boys hair lightly as he looks at him.

"Merry Christmas Larkman." He says simply, picking Larkman up into his arms.

The boy cries out of joy and happiness, wrapping his arms around Shademan's neck in a hug. "Merry Christmas Grandpa."
