|
|
No idea if this is old news but... (found no search results)
My friend on TUS happened to come across the Beast Link Gate products. On the packaging included english spellings for the two Dennoujuu.
The first of course, is romanized Dennoujuu Falzer like everyone predicted...yay~!!!
The second though....the one we normally know as Dennoujuu Greiga...
...was named as Dennoujuu Glaga...>.>
While technically the name is correct....does that sound god awful or what?
Until more Beast products are released, I believe we might have to accept this as the spelling from Capcom Co Ltd... >.> _________________ ~DrkX (Resident over-sexed camera-whore & Facebook zombie.)

Glaga? WTF? THat's rather strange. Oh well, as long as it's in't something completely deifferent. As for Falzer, I could care less whether or not there was a T involved. _________________

Glaga? GLAGA? Ugh...true, it may be the correct romanization but...eech! you'd think they'd allow some changes if it sounds THAT horrible >.=.< I just can't seem to find myself Attracted to a Glaga >.=.< hope this is just a temporary brainfart on their part o.=.o _________________ Proud GriegaĆFaltzer shipper ^.=.^

"Glaga"?
Kinda reminds me of that classic namco game... :/
I'd rather they spelled it "Grayga" or somehing. It's too close to "Galaga". |

That's what I was thinking, too. Glaga = Galaga with one 'a' missing. If that ends up being Greiga's English name, then I think I'll still go by Greiga. 'Glaga' just doesn't sound very... 'evil'... enough. :/ _________________ MegaMan Kilobit

I tend to mistrust merchandise engrish. :P
Though I do agree with Falzer. _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls. When they come talk to you, it's great. When you go talk to them, it doesn't go so well." - Miyamoto

Glaga? This is dissappointing. Couldn't they just completely change the whole name so it isn't so...so...HIDEOUSLY AWFUL? Even Grega would be better, compared to Glaga. _________________

I never said this was what the name for the English version of the anime/games, I only said that was how "Gu-re-i-ga" was romanized on an anime product. Who knows how it'll end up on the English games.

There shouldn't have been a "T" involved...
"Fa-ru-za-a"
Say that a few times and see if you can ever get a "t" in there.
EDIT: While it's highly unlikely that I'll have photographs of the products....

I personally found "Faltzer" rather than "Falzer" more sutiable for the tongue... but then again, it's my tongue. So I guess DrkX is correct, Falzer makes more sense than "Faltzer".
I too concur with the disappointment of the hideous monstrosity that is "Glaga". Excuse me for this, but it sounds like a gurgling sink or something, hardly what the colossal beast actually is >_> _________________

While I haven't got it on me, my friend was looking up stuff on the Valkyrie Profile remakes. The subtitle for the first one is very bad English Grammer. Why would the Japanese worry so much about Romanisation? Most of their customers are Japanese and thus read the Japanese writing. Also, don't the Japanese Romanise Rockman as Rockman?
Nope, wait for Capcom US to officialy decide on the names. My friend Masao also originally translated Greiga as Glayga when I got him to look at something on the EXE Site, so it's valid. Spelling of foreign words in English is a moot point, as they're foreign words. _________________

It would seem someone took offence at my previous post...
I apologize m(_ _)m
The remark was supposed to be aimed at myself for not noticing earlier that it was the romanization and not the official English terms. Like you mentioned, it doesn't really matter to them so I shouldn't have made a fuss of it not looking very good to the English reader. _________________ TGS 2007:MISSED! T_T |

Don't take these as official yet. Toys and Joys makes romanization errors all the time. |

...Except if you bothered to read the first post, you'll see that I said it was on the packaging as well. Seeing as it's an official product from the anime, there's a great chance in the validity... >.> _________________ ~DrkX (Resident over-sexed camera-whore & Facebook zombie.)

If you live in Hawaii like my friend (the one who informed me of the packaging) does then TnJ's is reliable of course... (no shipping)
Otherwise, I've heard some pretty bad stories about their shipping service....
Either way, irrelevant question in regards to the romanization of the Dennoujuu. _________________ ~DrkX (Resident over-sexed camera-whore & Facebook zombie.)

Well see, that makes sense. I read the post, but completely missed that part. Sorry about that.
Glaga may not have been what I had hoped, but it's not too bad. It actually looks pretty cool to me. No big deal. |

I wouldn't take those too seriously, Capcom's people often literally romanize things
We have.... Let's see
Sander Man(Thunder man)
Thord Man(Toad Man)
Todo Man(Toad Man again)
Gattsuman
Bleuse
Not to mention the on going debate, should Ijuin have two "U"s in it!? Oh NO!!!
Then again, the EXE 6 guide book says Glaga as well(Wondering why the preliminary reports by Gamespot, ect had Grega and Faltzer instead), not a big deal though....
I would rather talk about the usage of romaji such as Dennoujuu, why does saying "electric brain beast" in Japanese sound better than simply "Cyber Beast Giant Doggy, and Red Bird of Unhappiness?"
Off Topic, but TnJ are total flakes.
And Hikaizer wins.

If I'm talking out of my ass here, someone correct me... but considering the inconsistency with names in the EXE universe, the only "official" spelling for ANY name... is in the original Japanese characters. It doesn't matter how "official" something might be when a Romajinized name appears on it... because something more official will come along and contradict it. We all know it's Toadman, not Todoman, regardless that Capcom put "TODOMAN" in English within the EXE5 game itself. I also recall a Love Hina manga that had a big billboard with Santa Claus on it, with "SATAN" written beside it. Yes, SATAN. Doesn't mean anything. We know it's Santa Claus, not Satan.
Point is, unless referring to the EXE characters' JAPANESE names (emphasis on this because the English translated names DO have official spellings), unless you intend on writing them all out in Japanese symbols (and expect everyone to read them), then there is no official spelling. It's Medi AND Meddy. It's Jawaii AND Jyawaii. It's Ijuin... and Ijuuin... and Ijyuuin... etc. It's all the same thing. (Now, if you write Netau instead of Netto, you're getting a little carried away. But I believe you all get my point.)
It's a lot easier to just use whatever you feel comfortable with instead of debating on what is right or wrong, because none of it is right or wrong. When I do character bios, I refer to them by the name I'M comfortable with and make a note of alternate spellings. I use Bombman. But it's also appeared as Bomberman. Same person and everyone recognizes it. Leave it at that.
And just for the hell of it... I use Falzer and Grega. _________________
