Favorite personalitites for characters?

This applies to videogames, manga/anime, or whatever. Here are some examples (feel free to think of other things):

-Kind, caring, and generous
-Dark, sullen, and moody
-Short-tempered, maybe an "act first, think later" type of person
-Energetic, cheerful; probably the comic-relief character

I like the short-tempered "act first, think later" characters, and comic-relief ones are runner-up.

I kind of like the quiet, self-controlled characters, though they often go into the nigh-unemotional type. My favorite charcter is Rei from Evangelion (unemotional) and another good one is Lady Subaru from .hack//Sign (self-controlled). Oh, and Hyatt from Excel Saga is cool too, even if she does tend to inexplicably die and come back to life.

Of course, their opposites, obnoxiously loud spazzes, are almost always there as well. Asuka from Evangelion, Mimiru from .hack, and Excel Excel from Excel Saga. Well, maybe it's unfair to call Asuka and Mimiru spazzes. Then again, maybe it is :eyes: .

The cheerful kind. Everything else is really cliche and stupid.

I like the 'stupid/naive' type of character. Although it's really overused in most shows. They prove to be the funniest too.

I like the cheery teasing character that hides beneath the laughs, sad on the inside (like Fai from Tsubasa Chronicles). I also like the strong-willed character (like Syaoran. Same series.). I also like the strong silent type (I.E. Rei. She sure thinks a lot!). Don't much like the hugely over-the-top characters who celebrate everything (an exception would be Mokona Modoki. Mokona is too cute to be annoying. Mokona also looks like a pork bun. Go figure... see avatar.).
I also the the silent, stern, father figure (Kurogane, Brago, etc.)

I hope Ikari Gendo doesn't fall into the range of silent, stern father figures you like. The guy's a jerk, Jerk, JERK!!! But I agree about Rei's introspective and philosophical thoughtfulness. It's the greatest thing about her.

I suppose in most games they have a bunch of characters who are usually the same,

-main character who is usually confident, powerful and ridiculously stupid and reckless.
-mysterious, powerful and dark guy who loves the burn the regulars
-jester of the group who makes jokes, does stupid stuff, is usually weak.

I'd like to see more basic characters with more original personalities in video games.
ie...

-tactician or powerful character who is always trying to be funny
-character who acts exactly opposite of how they look (like emo jester character)
-mysterious yet hopelessly inept

these are just my kind of original character ideas, some of which have been used before. I just thought it might be interesting.

The insane and supremely evil villian that has an uncontrolable lust for power.
Ex. Forte(duh) and Sephiroth.(ff7)
The really powerful fighter that doesn't seem to talk much, and when he does it's usually insulting. XD
Ex. Auron(ff10), Balmung(dot hack), Heero Yui.(Gundam Wing)
The jackass punk who can kick bootay and doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut.
Ex. Mugen(Samurai Champloo), Sanosuke(Rurouni Kenshin), and Yusuke. (Yu Yu Hakusho)
The valiant guy who fights for what he belives in.
Ex. Edward Elric. (Full Metal Alchemist). I guess Scar would fit into this category as well. (FMA)

A lot of the high IQ characters (especially if they're kids) tend to fall under my favorites such as Shun Obihiro (Rockman.EXE 2), Negi Springfield (Mahou Sensei Negima), Captain Kuro (One Piece), and Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist).

Also, kids with a horrible past that pretty much sets up their role in the series' plot such as Lyserg Diethel (Shaman King) & Shun Obihiro (again).

Then there are the occassional characters who aren't from either of these categories such as Sora (Kingdom Hearts), Django (Boktai), and Sephiroth (FF7).

I like characters that are a bit quiet, but cool headed. For some reason, I'm pointing towards the messed up past mind of character...

I like the 'child prodigy' type of character as well. Like Negi(as AMZ said) and Toshirou(BLEACH).
