Yep, 2 versions. A 20GB for $499, and a 60GB for $599. It will be in stores Nov. 17th. The controller has retained it's design, so......no boomerang controller. :P
.....That is ALOT for a consle, though. ._. _________________ (Insert sig here because Matt hasn't thought up of a real one yet. D:) |

A high price. Just as everyone expected. At least it wasn't $700. Wow, the controller hardly changed. I don't know whether to be happy or disappointed.
Hopefully, the first set of PS3s won't have bugs. I'll definitely buy the 60GB version.
A lot of parents will have a hole in their wallets after this. Considering that PS3 is towards all ages, especially kids who rely on parents to buy them stuff. Not to mention how much the games will cost. They'll waste around $600-700 total. _________________

I simply cannot justify paying that much for a console, it's just too much.
The cheaper PS3 isn't even much of a bargain, you're paying for less stuff.
I really don't see parents buying a $500-$600 system for their children ethier, since they have a firmer grasp on the concept of money. Maybe as a Christmas present...but other than that I don't see it happening. _________________

499 for a console? No thanks, no matter how good the gaming experience is, that's way too much.
I'm sticking to Wii. _________________

Why should you ever buy a console when it first comes out?
$500 for a console that isn't even fully tested? $500 can be put towards a hell of a lot more and is about as much as I can make in about...a term of working part-time.
As with any public release, there are liable to be bugs, and major headaches associated with them. After a buffer period of maybe...several months, the price should drop to slightly more manageable levels.
A PS3, if it's in my future, won't come until I'm out of college at the earliest. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! I still have my PS2 when it was first released and it's still working. This will sound selfish, but I don't want my PS3 to have bugs. I could care less if others had bugs. As long as I don't get bugs, I'm fine with it.
I never did understand the value of a dollar. It's just green paper to me. Sure, I have my way of getting lots of money but it's just not that important to me. It's the product that matters. The green paper is just 1 of many stupid obstacles that I have to overcome.
Why won't anyone buy a console when it first comes out? It'll be like 360 in America. It'll be sold out in minutes. Now that people know the release date, they'll start saving. Die-hard fans will of course waste any amount of money for it. _________________

The higher-end model, which doesn't crap out on the good options, is CAD$659... 15% tax adds another $98.85 onto that... $760 is waaay out of my price-range. _________________

Bugs or no bugs, anything that costs more than a new desktop PC or 1 year worth of DSL subscription payments needs careful financial planning.
I wonder if there's a "unit-only" price (no hard disk). I think it's better to just move the current PS2 hard disk to the PS3, instead of buying a unit+hard disk package. _________________ TGS 2007:MISSED! T_T |

To be fair, the PS3 is less than half the cost of a desktop PC, at least a PC anywhere near it's power. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't even consider a PC at CAD$700...
Also, I don't believe it's possible to have a "non-harddrive" version - as far as I know, the harddrive is inside the PS3, not attached to the outside like the 360... you either get a 20 or 60GB harddrive - that's it. _________________

*converts PhPesos to US$*
I'm not sure if its power is at par with the PS3, but my new desktop barely crossed the US$400 mark, and I'm still paying for it until March of next year.
(Or maybe pc's are cheaper around here? )
Still, the PS3's a ways off, as far as I'm concerned.

I'd definitely buy a PS3 game, but not right after the release. I'll wait till it comes cheaper in either the store or the internet auctions.
Hmm... That price you guys mentioned reminds me about this from The Simpsons:

Marge: Seven hundred dollars. |

Only $400? What are the specs on your computer? There's not much difference in Canadian and US prices... $400 around here gets you an iPod, or a five-year old computer. My computer, which will be two-year's old this fall, is below the PS3's CPU power (Mine is a 3.0GHz P4; the PS3 is at 3.2GHz with multiple cores), and my video card is probably only half as powerful as the PS3's. I paid CAD$2,300 (about USD$2,090) for my computer... _________________

Actually, this is much cheaper than I thought it would be. The Sony rep to our store was giving us estimates of $1000 CDN.
I am interested in the system, especially after seeing the FFXIII trailer. I don't know about buying it at launch, though. Guess I'll have to see what games are launching with it, and the preliminary defective rate. _________________ And if you go, furious angels will bring you back to me...

Correction on the last line of my last post:

I'm sorry, but I can't justify spending half a grand on a system that really hasn't impressed me with anything.
Maybe eventually, if the price comes way down, and some great games come out on it. But for now and the forseeable future... No thanks. _________________ (\ ºvº\ (\

While it's not a bad thing that the Playstation controller has yet to change from its creation (aside from the addition of the analog sticks, which they totally ripped off the N64) it's somewhat dissapointing that they couldn't find ANY way, any way at all, to improve it.
And there's no way I'd be able to afford a $500 console. The Wii is expected to be half that price, and even then I'll just be able to afford it. _________________ Stuck In The Middle With You; a Metroid and Halo crossover

For those of us who actually have jobs and must support ourselves in the face of college or other major expenses at this time of your lives, half a grand is a significant amount. And even if your PS2 was bug-free when it came out, there is no guarantee that it will be the same when you get your PS3 as soon at it hits the shelves. The worst-case scenario is that you ended up almost wasting $500, and that's a lot to lose, especially if it is your savings or if you got your parents to foot the bill.

These are precisely the people that Sony as well as console companies profit the most off of. This leads to practically an obscene margin of profit for each. If a consumer just had the patience to wait even six months, the price may have gone down to more manageable levels. What good is a high price if it's well outside the budget of many potential customers? The real popularity of the system, if it will generate it, will be when the price drops to the level of around $200 or so, and more gamers will be able to afford it.
I too, am somewhat unimpressed with the features of the system for now. Having a ridiculously high price tag doesn't help either. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! See, I don't really have a job. I plan on getting 1 during summer that doesn't involve food or the words "Stop&Shop". Unlike some of my dope-selling friends, I plan on getting a real job. Probably at a gas station.
My family is rich. Not that rich, but good enough to spoil me.
Mom- We're going to buy five flat-screen TVs for the house. We'll get the first one for your room during summer. Then we'll get 1 for each room and the bar in the basement.
I didn't even ask for that :/ A lot of my friends envy my life cause it's like living in 4-star resort. Seriously.
2 of my friends will buy as many PS3s as they can and sell it on E-Bay for twice the price. Yeah...this will work. My friend sold a lot of 360s and he got around $4000 from it. _________________

I'm going to echo Midnight's statements here. Hell, $60 is a lot for a college student, as it's two weeks of food and probably gas money. Can you imagine what a college student or working student could do with half a grand? I assure you, they would not spend it on a PS3 if they're just trying to get through school.
It's not always the product that matters. When you're eighteen and starting college, you have to learn how to manage your expenses. =/ _________________

Like most of you have said, paying that much for a game console (and like PO said, especially one without any particularly impressive games) is riduculous. I never intended to get a PS3 and now I'm especially glad that I'm not. I'm sticking with the Wii. |
