The Perfect Truth

She looked at the phone, toying with the idea on her mind. She knew the number.
She lived on America, land of freedom. She could.
Oohzono Yuriko would need a good reason, though. A quick look at her apartment
revealed a messy room, memories of a life she thrashed nearly a month ago and
wasn't sure she wanted to recall. But then again, she was dialing the number.
That probably meant something.
For the sake of their special anniversary date, Yuriko promised. Just because
of that. And nothing more. He must've remembered it was the anniversary of
their first date, but he wanted to turn it into a special celebration, or a
surprise, even.
Perhaps she'd be lucky and forget about the past month, be together again and
have a happy ending.
Yuriko's voice trembled a bit. "Hello?"
The woman who answered the phone had a pretty voice, or so Yuriko thought.
She couldn't think of anything else. The words just couldn't come out of her
throat, not anymore. Yuriko hung up the phone, her eyes filling with tears; and
the memories came back, her heart aching at every single detail, every kiss,
every date, his face, his hand caressing her cheek. And all the things she had
treasured from those past days overwhelmed her.
The phone joined the destroyed teddy bear on the floor. The flower jar was
next, the shattered glass covering the love letters torn apart.
Yuriko was left alone again.
The young woman looked at the only picture that hadn't suffered the same fate
as the phone and the rest of the apartment. Two brown-haired girls, holding
hands, were smiling broadly at her. This time, the memories were good ones,
mixed with a bit of bitterness.
Yuriko hugged the picture, the most valuable thing for her at the moment.
Next to it was an ad she had received on the mail, but never really considered
it. Until now.
"'Flight Command'", Yuriko read. "Why on hell would father send me this?"

Command project. - 5558544_
Erase her pain? Yuriko chuckled at this. Not even the gods she was supposed to
believe in would achieve such an herculean task. Humans often loved to play
God, and this was not an exception. Yuriko would see it every day, everywhere
on 'this forsaken country of hell', as she had affectionately dubbed it.
She had no time to fool around with something that could perfectly be a waste
of time.
But she was dialing the number. That probably meant something.

AUTHOR'S NOTES:
This took more than I ever expected, but there it is. At first, the idea was
to write a Yuriko/Meijin or a Yuriko/Misaki, but I couldn't make it work
without going awfully OOC, sue me. And this was rushed, indeed. It's a lame SI,
but don't worry, I didn't trash my whole room like Yuriko did. There was
nothing to break, anyway. <g>
Anyway, thanks to Kiri no NekoMegami who sent me the lyrics of "Two of Us" by
Ayumi Hamasaki, extra thanks to Ari for sending me the song, kudos to Nazne
for sending me Axess 48, and a thumbs-up to Wolfie for not being able to
understand this language, or else I'd be toasted.
I'm working on Yush, I swear.

Addendum: When I wrote that, it WAS some sort of SI, sans the dumping but with
all of the angst. Ironically enough, I had to go through the whole situation
last month. Go figure. _________________
