The stars twinkled softly, almost in perfect synchrony, describing a silent melody in the clear night sky. The dim light of full moon filtered into the nursery of the Hikari family; two newborn boys slept soundly within their crib, the pale moonlight bathing their tiny forms.

Haruka Hikari sighed softly in her sleep, her husband by her side resting after a full day of looking after their twins. Their rest wasn't bound to last, however, as a soft whimpering reached their ears, forcing Yuuichirou out of the bed.

Yuuichirou sighed heavily, the twins had been a handful since they were born, the youngest, Netto, was exhuberant and full of energy, always hungry and vivacious. Saito, although more calm and peaceful, was always ready to back up his twin. If Saito wanted sleep, Netto would immediately join, if Netto was to wake up, Saito would follow suit.

The new father smiled as he walked into their nursery, Netto was half awake, sleeping in his trademark position, his belly against the bed with his rear perking high up for all to see; whimpering louder, almost ready to cry out. By his side, his brother Saito was wiggling, whimpering softly but just as distressed.

"Hey there," He said sofly as he picked up the twins carefully, resting his baby boys against his shoulders, "Hungry so soon?" Yuuichirou carefully picked up a couple of bottles left in the room in advance, used by now to feed both children at the same time.

The twins made soft sounds of distress as they attacked their bottles, hungry and sleepy. Yuuichirou smiled gently to his boys, sitting down in the rocking chair next to their crib, rocking gently to ease the children's mood.

"Good night my angel time to close you eyes..." The young father began to sing softly, lullabying his babies. "And save these questions for another day... I think I know what you've been asking me... I think you know what I've been trying to say"

Netto and Saito blinked slowly, looking up to their father, their whimpers slowly stopping, enjoying the soft sound of their father's voice.

"I promised I would never leave you... And you should always know... Where ever you may go... No matter where you are... I never will be far away" Yuuichirou smiled down to his children, gently stroking their cheeks with a finger, the twins slowly falling asleep under his song.

"Goodnight my angel now it's time to dream... And dream how wondeful your life will be..." The man stood up carefuly, his twins sent back to sleep by his lullaby, "Someday your child will cry and if you sing this lullaby... Then in your heart there will always be a part of me..."

He lowered the tone of his voice as he carefully tucked each child back in the crib, covering them with a soft blanket, "Someday we'll all be gone... But lullabies go on and on..."

Yuuichirou kissed his children on their forehead, slowly walking out of the nursery, "They never die that's how you and I will be..." He finished his song as he closed the door halfway, casting a last glance to his sleeping twins, nodding before leaving back to bed.

Verily.

It's quite endearing to see a single symbol--the lullaby--that will be able to go on through time even if the people that sing it cannot. Even though I don't know of the song that insipred you to go about writing this, and even though the lullaby was a bit on the generic side, it still did its job of conveying its message to the children.

It's also wonderful to see the twins in such a calm state--much different than the tumultuous state that they will go through eventually. Great job.
