Well, here's a little something I've been posting on the metroid boards. It's gotten some good reviews, but it's really ACT TWO that's truly superb. However, every climax must have a beginning, and this is it. And yes, this is a post fusion fan fiction... however, as you will see, the concept is completely inspired, paying homage to the original metroid, as well as doing its own unique thing.
Enjoy.
METROID: V
DAVID A. NOVA
Prologue
“The X, were a group of parasitic life forms that once threatened the universe with its infectious attributes.
“Upon the B.S.L Research Station, I confronted them... their only natural predator, the very race that I had thought to be destroyed by my own hands...
“The Metroids had been the X parasites’ only natural aggressor... it had seemed that with the destruction of the Metroid race, the X would have free reign over the universe... nothing but I could resist them...
“That is until I learned that the Federation had created a new generation of Metroids behind my back...
“But the Federation had found a much more interesting and far more dangerous research subject... the X themselves...
“The Federation had ordered me to cease my hunt of the SA-X, my carbon copy, forged from X parasites...
“Aided by my computer AI, I defied their orders to cease and standby... I destroyed the SA-X... and sent the B.S.L. Research Station to crash with Planet SR388... the explosion destroyed SR388’s atmosphere, and thus made it uninhabitable for all life forms... the X were destroyed...
“... However... the Federation would not understand... they would put out an A.P.B. for my arrest for committing treason against the government...
“It has been one year since the incident at B.S.L. and the Federation has been, to this day, unsuccessful in their efforts to capture me...
-Samus Aran
ACT- 1 EPISODE ONE: PLANET FALL
Some where in the abandoned asteroid belt mines, a lone gun ship speeds toward one of the celestial bodies. Samus leans forward in her command chair as her ship nears an abandoned asteroid mine. “Access Denied,” The computer announces. “Please enter your pass code.” Samus looks down at one of her computer screens, and types a series of six digits into the control pad next to her left hand. “Access to abandoned asteroid mines granted...” says the computer, “welcome home, lady.”
“Home sweet home, right?” replying in sarcasm.
The massive double doors to the interior to the complex open and Samus guides the ship through a labyrinth of rusted machines and sublevels. She passes many doors and objects that haven’t been used in years. She guides the ship in for a landing and exits onto a large rusted platform. All is quiet, as she moves silently through a door and through a hallway that leads deeper into the complex.
Samus walks cautiously through the cylinder shaped hallway. “Normally I’d be returning here to hide out...” She thinks to herself, “normally I’d be resting right about now... but I can’t today...” She steps into a large computer room, and approaches a large consol, her presence instantly bringing it online. The screen has the words “Welcome home Samus” show up as a greeting to her. “-not when there’s another Chozo home world waiting for me to investigate...” Sticks her arm cannon into the download slot, and finishes downloading the coordinates to an uncharted planet. “the planet has no name and consequently neither does the star system that it rests in...” she turns around and begins to walk towards the exit calmly. “took months to dig up the location...” She opens the door, and briefly looks behind her as her stomach growls. “... guess dinner will have to wait.” Turns her head and begins to walk down the cylinder passageway back to her ship.
Samus stops for a second, when suddenly she sees what seems to be a shadow run quickly against the wall just outside the passageway. She aims her arm cannon and crouches in the shadows. “Could’ve sworn I saw a shadow dance upon that wall...” She thinks, then whispers a command to her gun ship. “Adam do you detect any other life signs in this complex, besides my self?” Adam ponders this for a second, then replies, “I cannot be sure, lady...” He says, “I will have to run an area scan...”
Samus shakes her head. “...thanks...” She says. She proceeds to move slowly into the open area just before where her ship is docked. She aims her arm cannon around, taking extra care to check every corner of her vision. She edges closer to the ship.
Just then she hears a faint sound, like a boot scraping on cement, she quickly and effortlessly aims her arm cannon at the source of the noise, a half second later there’s a federation soldier on the floor with a cauterized hole through his head. Samus grunts and curses, “... shit... the Federation!” Samus backs up into the cylinder passageway again, and crouches in the shadows. “... it would seem that I can now cease my scanning efforts...” ,says Adam.
“Samus Aran!” says a voice coming from above one of the higher catwalks.
Samus desperately tries to tell where the voice came from. “... Adam... try to get an exact count of their numbers.” Says Samus. “Very well, lady.” Adam replies.
A lone federation soldier comes out to the edge of the cat walk, that’s only a story or two above Samus’ gun ship. “... Samus Aran... you are under arrest.” He exclaims. “Under the direct order of Commander Ranson, I hear by place you under arrest, following galactic code 10102.” Suddenly he finds several plasma beam shots just barely missing his head, he ducks, as the five soldiers behind him follow suit, “What the hell?!” the federation officer wines. Samus still crouched in shadow, “Commander Ranson, huh?!” she demands, “Why doesn’t the stupid son of a bitch just come here himself?”
“That is classified.”
“Bull shit...” she replies, “you do realize that I’ve just about had it with you rough necks, right?”
Samus backs away further into the cylinder passageway. "It’s not like Ranson to miss a chance to see me publicly humiliated...” She ponders, “even if that chance is next to none.” She disappears into the darkness at the end of the cylinder passageway.
The federation officer looks to his comrades for support, they simply shrug. Not finding help from his fellow soldiers the officer grows impatient. “... Samus Aran... if you do not comply, I am authorized to use excessive force...” He orders. “However we do not need for this confrontation to cause the deaths of any more-“ He ducks as he hears several sounds from his back. “–what the!!” He bitches. Samus comes at them from behind and uses the Wave-Beam to disable their grey suits. She stands over them, configuring a few settings in her power suit. She glares down at them, “Don’t try to follow me.” She says as she leaps off of the platform to her ship bellow.
The federation officer struggles vigilantly to get the words out, “damn it... you won’t... get far...” He yells, reaching for his communicator. Suddenly there’s an electronic voice speaking to him. “Yes, soldier?” It asks.
“Sir... Samus Aran...” He replies, “Is ship bound...”
“Very well...” The voice says, sighing, “KKKTTZZZ.”
Samus’ ship zooms out of the asteroid complex at top speed. Shortly after, she’s followed by a series of six Federation Fighters. She takes evasive maneuvers to avoid their shots. “... grr... I don’t have time for this!” She complains, “Adam set coordinates to the uncharted system.” The computer sets the coordinates, “... already on it, Lady.” It says.
Suddenly a bluish swirling hyperspace gate opens before Samus’ gun ship, and it enters the gate, leaving the six federation fighters in the dust.
“Captain...” communicates one of the fighters, “She’s entered hyperspace...”
“... Very well...” The captain replies, “We’ll get a tracker on her hyper space trail... over and out.”
Across, on the other side of the galaxy, Samus Aran’s ship comes out of hyperspace, rocketing toward a star system of six planets. Her ship quickly passes the first three and slowing down for her target. She comes into orbit around the unknown celestial entity. “... we have arrived, Lady.” Adam explained. Samus nods and replies, “Take us in.” The ship begins to descend into the atmosphere.
The ship enters the atmosphere, gliding into the clouds. Ice particles smash into the gun ship as they enter an ice storm. “ I’m imputing landing coordinates.” explains Adam, “I assume you have no objection?” Samus rolls her eyes, “Of course not, Adam.”
The ship zooms over icy mountain tops and over the ocean, approaching a lone continent, one filled with lush forests and greenery. “We will soon be at our destination...” Adam says. *beeb-beeb* a proximity alarm sounds. “Alert...” The computer says, “three unidentified bogies on our tail.” Samus glares at the radar screen and grabs for the control deck. “Switch over to manual control, Adam.” Samus commands. “... already done...” He replies.
The three space pirate fighters edge closer to Samus’ ship and begin to open fire on her gun ship. Samus glares as one of the blasts rocks her ship. “Those aren’t federation ships.” She realizes, taking evasive action. “They’re space pirates...” Adam decides to reply in a sarcastic manner, “It looks like you’re not the only one obsessed with the Chozo.” Samus glares, “Shut up, Adam.” She says.
Samus stops the ship in mid flight, and the three space pirate craft rocket past her ship. “Don’t know if they realize it’s me...” She thinks, as she targets the enemy ships with her weapons. “Can’t let a single one live...” She hesitates to pull the trigger. “That new weapons drive better be working, Adam.” She demands, as she fires several plasma beam shots at her foes, one explodes with a violent bang, the second is only caused to crash and the third decides to fly straight into her in a suicide run. “... stupid son of a-“ Samus yells as she fires the plasma beam again and tears right through the enemy fighter as if it were paper.
“... You missed one...” Says Adam, sarcastically. Samus glares.
Finally Samus slows the ship down, and takes it in for a landing. Slowly it descends through a canopy of trees. It comes to a hover, just a few feet off of the ground. And Samus ascends through the roof hatch, leaping into the air and landing in a crouch.
“... Shall I engage the cloak?” Adam inquires.
“Of course, Adam.” She replies, nodding. As she walks away from her ship, it vanishes from normal sight. “Good luck, Lady.” says Adam. Samus nods her head in response as she delves deeper into the forest over world.
She comes upon a set of monoliths of Chozo design. She stops for a second to regard them, then darts forward running at a jarring pace. Soon she comes to a bridge, and leaps off of it. Heading toward a wall, she uses the wall to kick her self to the ground, she lands scaring some local creatures. “I have to know for sure if they’ve discovered this place...” thinks, as she walks towards a large door. “But I won’t know for sure...“ She continues as she blasts open the door and walks through a long hallway. “-until I inspect the lower levels.” She walks through another door and into a large elevator.
The elevator comes to a complete stop and the doors open. Samus steps out onto a large platform that towers less than a half mile above an excavation site... Samus crouches near the edge.
Tapping on her helmet twice, her visor zooms in on the site... “As I suspected...” She thinks. She sees a group of space pirate workers running about their daily tasks. She glares within her helmet and leaps into the air, going into freefall. And just before she hits the ground she does a space jump and screw attacks through one of the space pirate workers, severing him in half. “–I am TIRED-“ She yells, as the space pirates screech at her. “of you little bastards invading on my territory!!”
She opens up a rapid fire barrage with plasma shots, each and every one of the space pirates is killed. She stops firing after the last one drops, and walks slowly over to one of them, and taps on her helmet once... “I want to know everything you little creeps have done.” She explains, scanning each and every one of them.
Suddenly the ground shakes violently, and Samus turns her head looking around for the cause. “... what now?” She asks.
Through the center of the floor, a drill dozer tears through the ground, sending debris out in all directions. The space pirate pilot inside spots Samus and switches to weapons mode, the thing towers over Samus as it approaches her. Samus walks calmly towards the drill dozer, arming her weapons. The drill dozer activates several missile ports on its side, and fires them, Samus jumps over all four, one at a time, and uses her own missiles to destroy the missile ports. She rushes for the cockpit, but the pilot activates the drill, and attempts to ram Samus, but she rolls to the side and switches to scan mode with her visor and begins looking for weak points in the drill’s design.
“... gotcha...!” She exclaims as she switches to the ice beam and starts to run straight toward the drill, charging the ice beam to full. She then space jumps over the mech unit, and lands turning around rapidly and freezing the drill apparatus. The pilot gets frustrates and curses in his native tongue. Samus leaps onto the top of the cockpit, and rips the door open, grabbing the space pirate by the arm and throwing him out of the mech unit. She jumps to the ground and begins to approach her enemy. “Tell me everything you know, underling.” She demands aiming her arm cannon at him.
The space pirate frightened, points to a very large door at the other end of the sanctuary. Samus looks behind her... nods... then shoots the underling and heads for the door. She stops in front of the door. It has a series of Chozo hieroglyphs etched into the rock face just above the hatch. She scans the text, which reads “... only the new bourn may enter...” She walks forward to the door and notices that there’s a spot for her arm cannon... she places it in the slot... and the door unlocks. She enters once the door has opened for her.
A red light flashes on the mech unit that Samus trashed. The door that Samus entered closes shut.
Samus stands before a Chozo statue with an interesting red glowing orb held in its stone talons. Samus scans it... “That’s interesting...” She says. “What is it, Lady?” Adam asks. “It’s not like any of my previous suit or weapon upgrades...” She replies. “it’s vibrating at a much higher energy signature...”
Suddenly the ground shakes violently once more. “... That’s all good and great...” Adam interjects, “But right now, I’m detecting six large mechanical units just outside the room you’re in.” Samus nods. “Right...” She replies, reaching for the orb. “Let’s see what this thing is...”
She grabs for the orb, suddenly a blinding flash of light emerges from the orb.
“. Samus...? Samus...” Adam desperately attempts to contact her, “do you read me...? SAMUS?!”

Hmm.
Well...there are a few things I must nitpick about.
The first thing I have to say is that you must fix some of the formatting issues. The foremost issue is the fact that sometimes you stick two or more people's lines into a single paragraph. Separate them. By doing so, it becomes absolutely clear who is speaking. Here, it's a bit muddled as to who is doing the talking.
I also noticed a few spelling and grammatical errors throughout. They are minor, though, so that's not much to be worried about, but I'd still run it through a spell-check first.
For the concept itself, the story is quite good. You do, however, seem to go a bit quickly through the action scenes. Perhaps if you slowed down a touch and took a few more lines to describe the scenes and enemies in more detail, it would be a lot more natural to the reader. In addition to this, more minor enemies should probably not be mentioned to by name alone. Not many people, even seasoned Metroid players, will remember what an enemy was just by its name.
Other than that, I think this is a fine start, and I'm eager to see how you continue this. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! Thanks, no one else alerted me to the dialogue problem, that's something I need to look into. (That can be a major problem if you don't know who's talking... heh...)
I believe that the only enemy I really mentioned was a Geemer, which EVERY metroid game fan should know. I suppose those that haven't played the game wouldn't know what a geemer was... I suppose i should have thought about this. _________________

ACT- 1 EPISODE TWO: ALLIANCE
Just out side the room where Samus entered, six Space Pirate war mechs creep toward the door. They stop their approach to scan the area. Just then an E.M.P. wave, travels through the Chozo sanctuary and their suits momentarily shut down. The space pirates seem to panic with claustrophobia. “...grrrakkk??!!” The space pirate yells in confusion as it smacks at the controls.
Suddenly their controls come back on line and they sigh in relief. Just then, they hear the sound of an opening door and their interest is peak. A thick haze oozes out from inside the room. The Space Pirates slowly creep forward arming their massive arm cannon modules. Then... her silhouette emerges and she slowly steps out of the steam. She raises her head, no longer garbed in the Fusion-Gravity suit, but in something new, something crimson and mean. There are large power conduits that run from an energy pack on her back to an, enlarged arm cannon, the emphasis of the suit is obviously on raw attack power; but this doesn’t seem to worry the pirates.
The Space Pirates fan out and surround her, charging their weapons to full capacity. Samus grins from inside her helmet. The Space Pirates open fire on her... she leaps through the air dodging the earth melting powerful beams. She lands softly rolling into the morph ball and slipping right under their mech suits. She comes out of the morph ball and spins around while charging her weapon to full, the Space Pirates turning around in alarm. They attempt another attack, but Samus strafes to the side unleashing her new weapon, and she’s forced back by the earth shattering blast, the beam, looking as if it’s half the size of Samus herself. The first two mechs fly apart into a thousand particles as they’re consumed by the new weapon. The other three units panic and fire several missiles at the construction above. The blasts cause the support beams to collapse and to fall, several pieces of the construction site above fall to crashing down in front of Samus, a wall is created between her she and her foes.
She crouches on the ground breathing heavily and dragging a clawed hand in the dirt. “... Cowards...” she accuses.
“... Samus...” Adam says. “I’m reading a net loss of energy, and your heart rate has sky rocketed!”
She shakes her head at this, as fireflies seem to dance around in her vision. “What...” She begins, “Worried?”
“I suspect that new weapon,” he answers. “I would advise you to reframe from using it any further, until I can run a diagnostic on it...”
“I’m a big girl,” She claims, as she stands up. “I can take care of myself, Adam.”
“... very well then...” He reluctantly agrees, “At the very least... only use it if you REALLY need it?”
“... Fine...” she answers, seeming only to want him to shut up. “But for now, break contact.”
“Very well, Lady.”
Back in Federation space, there travels a lone war cruiser. The commander of which is none other than Ranson. He sits alone in his luxurious office reading over some logs while drinking a martini. “Sir...” The intercom sounds, “we’ve just tracked subject: Samus Aran’s hyperspace stream...” Commander Rasnon nearly chokes on his drink, but seems to grin when the message reaches his brain.
“Good...” He replies, “I’ll be on the bridge momentarily. Stand by to enter hyperspace.”
“... Yes sir...” The intercom replies.
Samus travels down a service pipe in morph ball form. She comes to the end and drops onto the ground returning to her normal form. She crouches and looks around a rather standard passage way. “The Space Pirate logs are interesting to say the least...” She thinks to herself as she runs through the next door. “-Although the workers seem to know very little about the main project, I was able to tell where my next target would be... it’s not even in this area. The Space Pirates seem to have been here for an entire cycle attempting to gain access to the five locked chambers.” She continues her train of thought and runs through the access room and into an elevator shaft. “Although they’re not sure what high command is going to do with what ever is inside those chambers.” she activates the elevator. “I can only venture a guess.” The elevator hums as it begins to descend.
Out in the vastness of space, just outside the unknown star system, a hyperspace gate opens, flashing with a brilliant cobalt blue light. Commander Ranson’s war cruiser emerges. The hyperspace gate closes and the massive ship halts before entering the star system.
Commander Ranson leans forward in his command chair. “What’s the hold up?” He inquires.
“... Sir...” he answers, turning around at his consol. “We cannot determine where Samus went. It could be any of these planetoids...”
Commander Ranson growls and rolls his green eyes. “You idiots...” He says, standing up and walking over to the computer operator’s chair. He nudges the computer op out of the way and begins typing on the key pad. A small holographic image of a lush green planet emerges, and Ranson stands straight, running his left hand through his short black hair to fix it. “Just find the most inhabitable planet...” He says, “And we’ll start there...” He points to the hologram, “Now was that so damn hard?” No one answers him.
The elevator comes to a screeching halt. A few seconds later the door opens for her and she steps out into a cold lab. Her eyes open in violent shock as the pain settles in, and she is brought to her knees. “What the hell’s happening to me...?!” She glares forward, struggling to reach for her arm cannon. “D-damn...” She curses under her breath while pressing several keys on the cannon, deactivating the Plasma Suit, and restoring the fusion-gravity suit. Only it’s not the fusion suit, she now seems to be clad in her old Varia suit. “... It seems that your new toy doesn’t react well to the cold,” Adam states.
“Ya’ think?” she sarcastically replies. “What happened to my fusion suit...? Not that I mind the change...”
“... I do not know...” he replies, “My best guess would be that the new hardware must have activated your old suit...”
“... Always liked this one better...”
Samus ignores any further messages from her computer AI, and heads through the frozen hallway. The next door opens for her and she steps into what seems to be a laboratory. There are broken and empty research tubes suspended on the walls. She steps over to a partially wrecked computer consol, scanning and hacking into the mainframe. “Hmm... an incident report,” She states, brining the file up to view.
“Space Pirate Encrypted Data
Incident Report 20.405.50
Phase one of our experiment is a complete failure. It seems that our subjects rejected the initial infusion process and proceeded to spontaneously combust. This new technology doesn’t seem to react well to non-native DNA. This definitely raises many new questions about the Hunter.
Bio from Samus Aran has always been presumed to be human. But with the deaths of several of our test subjects, it is quite clear that in order for our research to continue any further, we will need to... DATA CORRUPTED...”
Samus glares at the screen as the data scrambles, she backs away from the console and walks around the room to inspect the broken tubes. She notices a small amount of blood on the edge of one of the broken tubes. She takes a DNA sample from it and stands up. “... Adam...” She asks, “I need this DNA analyzed.”
“… Of course, Lady,” He replies. “I’ll get on it right away.”
She doesn’t reply. Then the room goes crimson red as an alarm sounds. “Huh...?!”
“... Samus...” Adam addresses her, “You must have tripped a self destruct sequence... get out of that room, now!!”
She looks up at a catwalk on the second floor and space jumps to it, running to the nearest door, the only other door in the room, and attempts to shoot it open. She curses when her weapon has no effect. “Damn it...” She yells, “The doors have been locked.”
“... I’ll try to hack them open...” he states, “Just stay put, Samus.”
Samus shakes her head typing several key combos into her arm cannon. “Nothing ever gets done if you stand around, Adam,” She states. Her suit changes to the Plasma model and she cringes from the pain that’s caused, but she charges the hyper plasma cannon anyway.
“... Samus... stop...” Adam commands. “That’s an order...!!”
Samus aims the weapon attempting at a grin. “You forget,” she says. “I’m an outlaw now... I don’t take orders!!” She fires the weapon, destroying the door. Afterward she quickly shuts the Plasma suit down and runs through the doorway. Coming to a long drop, she takes a brief second to look behind her; then jumps down into the darkness below.
*CLANK!*
She lands hard in a metal ventilation duct. Just a second later the entire ventilation duct is rocked by the self destruction of the lab. “... That was a reckless and stupid move, Samus!” He accuses. “I’d advise you to- AKT-“
Samus turns the communicator off, “That’s nice.” She says, standing up and walking down the vent duct. She comes to a ladder that extends up about fifty feet.
The vent duct leads to a large open hall, one not unlike the hall before the Plasma Suit room. In fact, except for the ice, it’s almost identical. Construction has obviously been started by the space pirates, as there are large excavation machines and catwalks that extend all the way up to the ceiling. The door to the Vent Duct opens and Samus emerges cautiously...
... She spots a large door at the end of the hall, and begins walking toward it. She proceeds to scan everything she possibly can. “No sign of space pirate life signs in this room...” she thinks to herself. She begins to approach the massive door, when the ground begins to shake. Samus rolls her eyes and spins around as something massive crashes in front of her, creating a wall and blocking her path to the power up room... this annoys her.
She stands ready as a massive pirate mech slams into the ground from above. She points her arm cannon at it and rolls out of the way as it lets loose a large ice ray that freezes part of the newly created wall, she glares at the damage that it just caused and fires several missiles at the mech unit. The unit seems to be unaffected by the concussive blasts and rushes Samus with one of its arms, smashing her into the ice wall and shattering it. Samus grows even angrier with her alien aggressor, and dodges several more ice blasts that seem to freeze more of the construction above. She recovers from the dodge and rushes in shooting the plasma beam like a mad woman.
Commander Ranson’s ship orbits the planet that Samus made planet fall on several hours prior. Commander Ranson and a young assistant walk calmly side by side down the hall that leads to the elevator, when an intercom sounds, “Commander Ranson to transport deck...” it says, “Your transport vessel is ready for planet fall. Please report to the transport deck A.S.A.P.”
Ranson grins nodding with a half downed martini in one hand, “–Yes, and what about our friends on the surface? How long have they been down there?”
The assistant nods, taking out a small palm top computer bringing up a log entry. “Seems they’ve been there for at least a cycle...” He states, “They made contact with us as soon as they could detect our cruiser in orbit.”
Ranson glares taking a sip of his martini, “Just what are they doing here, anyway?”
“... Their leader declined to give any information as to their current operation.” He replies, “But they will fork over any relevant information to this current case when and if they come upon such info.”
“... You sound like a lawyer...” He says as they get to the end of the hall. Ranson presses a button for the elevator. “But I suppose they’ve always been this cryptic.”
“... Indeed...” he states, “They have.”
“Have some one contact their leader,” he commands, stepping into the elevator. “And tell them we’re on our way.”
“... Will do commander...” he replies as the door slams shut in his face. “Why’s he always got to drink like that?”
Samus leaps over a piece of wall as it’s hurled at her by the aggressing mech unit, the mech unit follows up with another missile barrage. Samus is hit by one of the concussive blasts. She’s very frustrated by this point and resorts to aiming her arm cannon at the frozen construction above. She fires, allowing her self a faint grin when it all comes crashing down on her enemy.
*SMASH!!*
The mech seems to not be moving any more as she creeps forward and steps onto the pile of rubble. She stops and begins to scan the debris aiming her cannon just in case. “... HMPH...” Suddenly an explosion comes out from under the rubble and the floor collapses, taking Samus with the falling debris. “AH!!” She screams.
*SCRAPE!!*
Samus tries in vain to stop her decent through the metallic frozen drop hole.
*CLANK!!*
Samus hits the floor of another room. It’s dark, and still very cold. She can hear faint noises, like the scraping of metallic boots and the cocking of plasma rifles... and something else... something even she wouldn’t expect.
Suddenly the lights come on, and there are twelve federation soldiers aiming their plasma rifles at her, joined by six space pirates. And behind them, experiment tubes filled with infant Metroids. “... Son of a bitch,” She curses.
One of the federation soldiers steps forward and addresses her. “... Samus Aran...” He says to her, “You are under arrest.” _________________
