To be honest, I had started writing this a week or two ago, and only finished it now. This one was hard to write, in actuality, because trying to imagine them talking about it was harder than I originally imagined.
In any case, this is just a look into the lives of three Net-Saviors we know well, and what they discuss. Enjoy.
---
"It's been a while since we've been able to get together like this, huh?"
That remark came from a young brunette, who was sitting at a table and stirring his tea. The person next to him chuckled.
"Indeed it has," he remarked, sipping his coffee. "When was the last time we had a moment like this? Months ago?" he asked while brushing a black and white bang out of his eyes.
Across from him, a teal haired boy shook his head. "As far as I can remember, around five months." he said, taking a swig of his tea. The brunette pouted.
"That's why we have to try to get together like this more often, Laika!" he exclaimed cheerfully.
Laika grunted. "It's not that easy, you know. I'm busy with duties in my country, while both you and Enzan are on call almost all the time, Netto."
Netto pouted as Enzan chuckled. "He's right, but I do have to agree with Netto," he said, sitting back in his chair. "This should happen more often."
The brunette chuckled. "Yeah...moments like these are rare, though." he commented as he drank his cooling tea.
The other two boys nodded, knowing he was right. The three of them had been through so many trials so far, and they had a lot more to go. After returning from Beyondard, it seemed that their duties came crashing down on them, and they were forced to work harder than they ever thought. Even Enzan, who was the master of multitasking and keeping his cool in working conditions was showing signs of being overworked.
That was why, whenever they could, the three would take a day off and meet like this from time to time. It was nothing much, just a casual meeting of friends in a quiet little cafe in the city. They preferred it that way; the three of them knew that they would go back to their busy lives the following day.
Silence prevailed over them as the stared at their drinks, ruminating over past events. They had come so far in only such a short amount of time. First it was Nebula, then the whole crisis with Duo, and then the Cyber Beasts after that. The three of them didn't know what would come their way next, and they took whatever days they had off to relax.
"We've changed," Netto said suddenly, voicing what all of them already understood.. "I mean, think about it. If we had never met each other, and never went on the adventures we had, would we be sitting here reminiscing?"
Enzan chuckled. "I know what you mean. I probably would have worked myself to death had you not come along." he said while smirking, but Netto knew what he meant by that.
"And I would probably have done the same." Laika remarked while nodding in agreement, and the brunette sighed. He remembered when both Enzan and Laika had been totally different, both mocking and cold in their actions. Over time, though, they changed gradually as crisises unfolded and they were forced to work together. Before, they were the fiercest of rivals, not wanting anything to do with the other. Now, the three of them were the closest of friends.
Netto grinned. "So, what have you been up to, Laika? We haven't heard from you much over the past few weeks." Laika shifted in his seat and sighed.
"I've been doing reconnaissance work all around Sharro," he explained, pouring some cream into his tea and stirring it lightly. "We're expanding the range of our control towers and we're trying to find the places where they have maximum effect. It's an easy job, but it's not very exciting either." he sighed.
"Sounds exhausting, actually," Enzan commented, looking at his friend. "I know I wouldn't want to be trekking around a country that large every few days." he snorted.
Laika gave him a small smile. "Well, don't you have to do that anyway for IPC?" Netto chuckled as Enzan frowned, letting the teal haired boy know he hit it right on the mark. "It's not very different than what we do as Net Saviors anyway."
Enzan looked thoughtful for a moment before nodding. Netto chuckled again.
"Heh, we do travel around a lot as part of our job," Netto said off-handedly as he stared out of a nearby window. "But...I've been wondering something lately. What happens after we quit as Net Saviors?"
The other two looked at the boy, surprised. "Quit as Net Saviors? What do you mean?" Enzan asked, surprised.
Laika blinked and slowly nodded, getting why the brunette suddenly brought it up. "I see what you're getting at. We can't be Net Saviors forever, can we?"
"As much as I would like to," Netto said sadly. "But I know, and I know the two of you know too, that we're eventually going to have to move on from here to resume our lives."
Enzan frowned. "That won't be for many years from now, Netto. Why bring this up now?" he asked curiously.
The brunette sighed. "What do you think you'll be when we're older?" he asked, turning the conversation in another direction, "What do you want to be, for that matter?"
If Enzan or Laika were taken aback from the topic change, they didn't show it. "You mean when after we've grown up?" Enzan questioned lowly, recieving a nod in response. Placing his chin on his hands in a thoughtful position, he closed his eyes. "Well, at first, I saw myself taking over IPC after my father...retires," he said. Both Netto and Laika noticed the slight hesitance when he said that, knowing what his father was like. Netto didn't like the man at all, and even Laika found him a bit stiff. "However...lately, I've been thinking about rejoining the Official Netbattlers in a few years, probably in the international division."
"Oh?" Netto asked, his curiousity piqued, "Why go back into the Officials? Wouldn't being a Net Savior be the same thing?"
"Yes and no," Enzan replied. "Yes in the fact that they both protect the peace. However, the Net Saviors are more specialized than the Officials, in actuality."
"In which ways?" Laika questioned, also curious, "I know the Net Saviors are the primary defense with Dimensional Areas, but what are the main differences?"
Enzan smirked. "Officials are more discreet in what they do. They're more like undercover detectives, in a sense," he explained, pausing to take a sip of his coffee. "While Net Saviors are the main defense against real world invasions, the Officials have just as tough, if not tougher, jobs in going undercover and taking out large scale operations."
Netto leaned back in his chair, staring at his friend. "Why the international division?" Enzan laughed quietly.
"I knew you'd ask that," he snickered before sighing. "Well, mainly it's because I don't want to be confined to Japan in my duties. I want to catch the international criminals, as well."
"A lofty goal," Laika remarked before giving him a small smile. "But I do believe you can reach it." Netto nodded, and Enzan smiled at the both of them.
"Thank you..." he murmured before taking a swig of his coffee. "Anyway...what about you, Laika?"
"Easy," he casually remarked as he crossed his arms, "I'm going to follow in my grandfather's footsteps and become the supreme commander of Sharro's military."
Both Netto and Enzan shared a look, understanding at once. They both knew that Laika held his late grandfather in extremely high regard, and him wanting to follow in his footsteps wasn't too farfetched. "You really want to be like him, don't you?" Netto asked.
Laika remained silent for a minute before shaking his head. "In a sense...but I want to achieve it through my own methods. I have to carve out a name for myself." Both boys nodded, satisfied with his answer.
Enzan then turned to Netto, who was looking away. "And you, Netto?"
Netto gave a soft chuckle. "Well...it's kind of hard to explain, actually," he said, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. "How should I put this...I wanted to be a great scientist, like papa."
Laika looked at the brunette curiously. "You wanted to be?" he repeated, confused. Netto smiled and nodded.
"Yeah, but after the whole thing in Beyondard, I got to thinking..." he trailed off, looking into the sky. "I want to do more than that. I want people to realize that navis aren't just programs or mere partners," Netto said, looking at his two friends. "They're more than that. They're part of us...almost like they're our brothers, even."
Enzan chuckled. "When you put it like that, it's very convincing." he remarked.
"Don't get me wrong, I still want to be a scientist!" Netto said quickly, "But I really feel that everyone needs to be aware of how net navis aren't just programs. It might be slow, or it might never happen...but I will do my utmost to change the views about net navis everywhere." Netto finished. Laika sighed.
"All three of us have such large goals for the future..." he said, looking at both his friends. "I'm certain that in time, we might not be able to see each other like this."
"You're right," Enzan muttered. "Eventually, to accomplish what we need to, we're going to split up."
"The question is when..." Netto muttered, somewhat dejectedly. Enzan couldn't blame him; both he and Laika were the only ones that he talked to regularly, and splitting up would hurt.
"Who knows?" Laika said, taking another drink of his tea, "It might be after we resign as Net Saviors, or it might be years later. Dwelling on it, though, makes it more painful in the end."
Silence reigned over the three of them for a time as they emptied their drinks. Then, Netto suddenly looked at both of his friends, looking resolute. "I know we won't be together forever, as much as I want us to be. However...there has to be a way for us not to fall out of contact with each other, right?"
"I don't know...things can get hectic at times, you know?" Enzan said, drumming his fingers on the table. "I'm sure we can, but there is no guarantee that we could keep it up."
Laika nodded, knowing all too well. The military life got so chaotic at times that it was hard to even think of anything else. Netto sighed, but looked determined. "Well...if not that...then I have an idea."
"Oh?" Laika asked.
"This date, let's meet up again every year on this date," Netto said simply, smiling as his two friends blinked in comprehension. "If we can just set aside one day for ourselves every year, it shouldn't be any problem, right?"
Enzan chuckled at the boy's intuitiveness. "No, I don't see any problem with that."
Laika nodded. "Indeed, it sounds very good." Netto grinned.
"Then it's decided. This day for many years to come will be ours alone!" he exclaimed happily. His friends couldn't help but smile at his enthusiasm, and the three continued chatting about it until they got up to leave.
By the time the three were walking down the street, the sun had started to set. "Well, back to work tomorrow..." Netto sighed.
"I might not be able to see you guys for a few months," Laika said, not breaking his pace. "Searchman and I will be doing some heavy duty work around Sharro, and contact might be rare."
"It's alright," Enzan remarked. "Netto and I will probably be up to our necks in work." he chuckled as Netto groaned loudly.
"Don't remind me! Mid-terms are coming up!" Both Laika and Enzan shared a laugh at Netto's as the three walked down the street, conversing with each other.
---
Years down the road, on that day the three pledged to meet up, a young scientist was sitting in a seat in a small cafe. "Man, where are they? They're late!"
At that moment, a man wearing a trenchcoat walked in. The most remarkable thing about him was his black and white hair. "Sorry I'm late," he apologized, sitting down next to the scientist. "Laika get here yet?"
The scientist chuckled. "Knowing him, he'll be here any moment. It is harder to get away when you're as high a rank he is." he said. Just then, a green clothed man walked in, the regalia of Sharro's commander adorning his clothes.
"I see I'm the last one to arrive, as usual," he remarked wryly. The other two chuckled as he sat down, and his subtle annoyance at being late disappeared as quickly as it came. "To think, that you used to be the one that held everything up, Netto."
Netto pouted at his friend. "Well, when you have someone like Rockman living with you for years, you're going to have to change if you want to meet deadlines," he laughed, and the other two snickered. "So...tell me. What have you two been doing?" he asked, giving both of them a small smile.
Enzan and Laika smiled in return, and the three were off talking again, relating to where they've been and what's been going on.
Seperately, one could tell that the three were content in their lives. However, when they were together, they were happiest with the knowledge that their friends were safe, and living out their dreams.

I like how this fic turned out, but at the same time, I think there is significant room for improvement somewhere in there...anyway, concrit is very well appreciated. o/ _________________

Nice! This must have been inspired by the Beast 1 (was it 1?) scene in the cafe.
The future needs to be fleshed out a bit more. Did Netto become the head scientist at SciLab? How well did he get his message that Navis aren't just programs? What happened to IPC? _________________ All life begins with Nu and ends with Nu... This is the truth! This is my belief! ...At least for now.

This is very nice, indeed, Sol. I think the 'drama' of their separation due to persuing their dream was a bit... in terms of old fashioned technology, though. Hard to believe that they'd be unable to mantain communication a little more regularly with the PET technology if they really wanted to.
Aside that, I think the feeling of compromise and their happiness reaching its peak at being together, because after all, they three shared a special bond.
great fic nonetherless, Sol. \o/ _________________ Hecha en MÉXICO - Avatar by Me.

tuxdev: Heh, thanks. From my perspective, I was writing the final part in the future as more of a realization of that promise, not how they were doing in their jobs. I left that ambiguous for the reader. XD
Planty: *glomps* Thank you. I think I was thinking more of 'their lives are so hectic that they can't reach each other', but I suppose the PETs make it possible for communication anytime. Thanks for the review~ <3 _________________

Enjoyable read. This has the right balance of details and of talking to make this a nice little short one-shot fic.
Since I am not good at one-shot fics (I like to characterize too much, symbolisim... too much of it to fit into a one-shot.) So it got me to sit down and write some poetry. Fan-poetry? No. It started that way, however it ended up being just a little noir of me. But enough about that.
Good work Sol, I really enjoyed this fic. Write more! _________________ Though some would contest the point that the words I have spoken mean naught, I choose to believe that the words I do speak will reach the souls of all those who choose to internalize their message. I've not been able to actually read and review this fic, but now that I have, I find it to be quite excellent.
Development went well, and it's nice to see how our trio of protagonists had such lofty and idealistic goals at the 'present' time. The transition to the future was fairly seamless and went naturally.
I did note, however, two errors with grammar...one of them was toward the beginning and it was a bit ambiguous as to who was doing the speaking. Another was a minor spelling error.
Other than that, it went seamlessly. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! From Television City in Hollywood! It's time to 'Press Your Luck!'--Rod Roddy
