If Lan's Grandpa invented the PET, and Lan's Dad invented the Navi Customizer, wouldn't you think that Lan's amily would be living in a mansion gaining a lot of money, instead of living lives as civillians in a small house in ACDC Town. You'd think they'd be rich, wouldn't you? |

Perhaps money isn't everything, you know.
Yes, they may be getting royalties on their inventions, yes, but that's not the point. Are Tadashi and Yuu manufacturing their devices themselves and selling them directly to the public? Of course not--there are manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and all the other sort of middlemen. They are making the proverbial big bucks--and whatever royalties that trickle down to them are quite dwarfed in comparison.
Tadashi and Yuu probably make just enough money to live comfortably, but not extravagantly. Take a look at a parallel in real life--inventors and developers lead plain, mundane lives--even if one of their ideas made potential millions.
The aforementioned "Big Bucks" are in the pockets of the middlemen, usually. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! They worked for the government. Since they were working FOR the government, the government gets most of the money generated from the work. The creators usually get some royalties and some nice credentials to add to the end of every letter/article they write in science magazines =). _________________ Slur > j00

Good Point ElecManEXE. I thought that they might be somewhat rich, though. The question kinda makes you think... |

Hmm... i somewhat have that question too. Netto's Family is very different than Enzan's family, right?
But both of them have relation on making and or designing PETs _________________ Your last word will become the word that will always be remembered by anybody |

I believe that Lan also made the PET wireless function if i am not mistaken ( refer to episode 56 of EXE). The government just sits back and lets the Hikari family make money for them. :grr: :grr: :grr: _________________

Actually the wireless feature was introduced in Battle Network 2. Maylu gave it to him when he went to Netopia, and he had to use it to beat Pride and Knightman. _________________ Salem Paroo, Guardman's roleplay character!

Lan's dad designs the PETs and all related tech. It's a goverment job and probally pays well. They just may not spend much. Enzan's family build the PETs and possibly the chips. (Who does make the chips?) That's a business and let's enzan and family be rich. That sounds like it makes sense doesn't it? |

hmm...this same question crossed my mind at some point. i always thought that most of the money they got back was poured back into new technology, Net-maintenance, and whatnot. who DOES make the battlechips? and how come Lan always loses his? _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

I would assume programmers make the chips.
Just like how in one of the manga volumes (I can't remember which...it was the one with Sharkman after Rock beat DreamVirus), Netto said he made a chip and it was some kinda mega booster thing where Rock got a rocket pack on his back.
But the manga and game are not the same!
Also, I assume that the Akuma Chip (episode 19 of Original series) was made by Wily...
And that other chips are simply virus attack data imputted onto a chip! _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

Most likely either IPC or another company makes most of the chips, but if you were good at programming I'd think you could pick up some empty chips (just like blank disks) and program your own battlechip. An example would probably be Higsby's Numberball chip, and maybe even the darkchips Regal makes. _________________ Salem Paroo, Guardman's roleplay character!

Isn't that kinda what Cossack of Battle Network 3 does, only with programs? And The virus chips from the Breeder seem pretty simmilar to what you're talking about. |

Yeah the virus breeder chips are pretty much a perfect example, seeing as how the sci lab workers are trained in programming. Yeah, if Cossack could make Bass and modify the programs, he could probably easily make some chips himself. _________________ Salem Paroo, Guardman's roleplay character!

oh yeah, i had forgotten about that! i wonder how the program is written...maybe C++? ah, it would be cool if you could make your own battlechips. _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

Something came to me last night about this...You get chips from random viruses. I've made this theory, Viruses are pretty much battle data, so when you destroy them some attack data gets left behind. Perhaps our friend Lan always carries around blank chips, and then puts that attack data into the chip. Therefore, if he killed a Billy he could take the thunder attack data, and turn it into a chip... _________________ Salem Paroo, Guardman's roleplay character!

Yeah, it's sort of explained how Lan can get physical chips over the intraweb in an episode in the first season of the anime...
