I noticed something with each episode being released. Episode 1 and 2 share the same director, storyboarder, and writer. So does Episode 2 and 3. And apparently, so does episode 4 and 5. I'm beginning to wonder, did Xebec actually originally animate each episode as 24 minute episodes?

This may explain the very slow pace, as the episode is only progressing at a normal 24 minute episode length. I'm starting to think this series was going to be broadcasted at a later point, either on the timeslot Oha Colisuem was (taking over the whole timeslot), or at a possible later timeslot in the day.

If my theory is correct on this then, Ryuusei no Rockman may be 52 to 104 episodes long. (or roughly around there anyways.) Which means we're going to be for a long ride on this series.

Also, if this theory is correct, then that does mean Ryuusei no Rockman has an ending sequence, most likely. But we probably won't know until the DVD is released.

The story does seem to be progressing at the pace you'd expect from a 30-minute timeslot series. That's not to say, however, that it'll necessarily stay that way, nor does it mean that the series will be extended to accomodate a more carefully laid out story.

Personally, what I think will happen is that Ryusei no Rockman will have a running time typical of Rockman.EXE - that is a bit over 50 episodes, all seasons included. That might or might not be troubling. On one hand, they have very little time for fillers, making for a clean and solid series. On the other hand, if they do go overboard on fillers like Stream did, the story is really going to be pinched tight.

What's more, I really don't expect the episodes to be condensed for a DVD release or whatnot, at least not in Japan. They're edited such that the episodes don't end abruptly, and as such, I don't believe the episodes would flow into each other very well if strung together, requiring some really well planned editing. (Likewise, I really doubt they'll create a full ending for a DVD release.) Even if Ryusei would be granted a full 30-minutes for the second season, the first episodes would likely remain the same. If any editing will occur, it will probably be in an international release, condensing 3-4 episodes into one, effectively turning Megaman Star Force into a 13-episode series like Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventures.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me. ^^; I say that because I got the same feeling from Beast+. Whether it was true or not, it felt like; despite knowing the timeslot was now a shared one; they had done full eps of Beast+, cut them in half, and added the titles to the end of the halves for air.

I'm not an authority on how that works, but it seemed that way. Now, I've only been able to watch one ep of Ryuusei and I feel comfortable in saying that I already like it. However, I will guess it'll feel the same way when the others finish downloading.

On the upside, it does leave you wanting more when the ep is over. Which can be both good an bad. Good in that you'll tune in next week for more, but bad only in the fact it feels like they're setting up for a full 30-minute episode you aren't going to get.

Personally, I hope they extend the time slot for it. It'd be great to see a full-length ep with an ED since they gave Ryuusei a full OP; unlike Beast+... who got a bunch of credits with music and a background versus a new OP...

Still, it looks like Ryuusei will be a good series and I look forward to more eps of it. ^^

What it feels like to me, when watching Ryuusei, is that the episodes were really the standard 22-24 minutes long. They then took the first part of the first episode and put it on TV, and where they ended it was where they originally had the commercial break.

Does that make sense? So the theory of eps 1+2 and 3+4 being two eps seems to be solid. I hope they do edit them together ^^ I get kinda miffed when I start getting into an episode and it's over *pout*

Ryusei was produced after the Rockman.EXE anime was put on a shorter time block. Therefore, they were made from the ground up as 10-minute episodes. Consider the description of the state of the world at the time of the series - it was shown twice. Once in episode one, and an abridged version in episode 2.

Furthermore, the episodes were designed to transition into each other as distinct episodes, not a hacked-apart single episode. Subtle details to support this are ever-present. Consider how the camera zooms out from Subaru's unconcious body. This isn't present in episode 3's beginning.

All-in-all, if one were to edit the episodes to occupy a full time slot and show only unique footage, it would take about 4 episodes to fill that time slot.

The only reason it feels like it aught to have a full time slot is because, on a per-minute basis, the story progresses as quickly as episodes that have a full time slot.
