"Who says we need fancy tri-monthly prize-filled contests to have fun?! I have my own Valentine's Day-themed pic tradition and probably won't have major time to do a Rockman-themed one, but thought I could still be involved in this way. So, here's the premise of my V-Day art contest:

It's Valentine's Day and love is in the air. Our resident goddess of love, Roll, is playing Cupid. Both on the net and in the real world, Cross Fused with Meiru. Whether it's because her intoxicating Roll Arrows have a mind of their own, or that she just has poor aim, strange couplings are happening all across the EXE world. It's your job to capture the beauty of her mismatched victims...*coughcough*...er, um, lovebirds.

So what we're looking for is unique couples. Now you don't have to draw Cupid style Roll/R-Roll in action somewhere in the pic. But she can be in it, if you so choose. In order to make this more of a challenge, every normal pairing or popular fan-pairing is banned from the competition. That means no: Netto x Meiru, Yaito x Enzan, Laika x Pride, Rock x Roll, Medi x Rock, Higure x Mariko, Beef x Mariko, Yuriko x Miyabi, Yuriko x Misaki, Haruka x Yuuichirou, Hinoken x Madoi, Meijin x Makoto, Charlie x Tesla, Jack x Ann...you get the picture.

I'm probably forgetting obvious ones, but let's see some creativity in your pairings. There are plenty of characters out there who deserve some love, in one way or another. You can still use Roll or Meiru, despite my premise -- we'll just pretend she shot herself in the foot or something (or create your own alternative reason). Especially if you choose to do a Navi pairing, since there really aren't many female options.

There will be two categories: Humor and Romance. If you are aiming for a very odd pairing and want to make us laugh, you probably want to submit it into the Humor category. Entries in that category will be judged on how funny they are as a whole. If you think so and so would actually make a nice couple and want to draw a more beautiful interpretation of that love, to Romance it goes.

Entries in that category will be judged on the "Awwwwwww..." factor. So, this way, we will not be biased about one's skill level. You're allowed to submit two entries, any way you want. Two in a single category is fine, and so is one of each. Obviously, I shouldn't need to tell ya, but keep it clean. Any dirty entry will be disqualified...or forwarded to Tabby, one or the other. ;) Entries do not need to be colored, but it is preferred. With time constraints, I'm not picky. A well-drawn picture is a well-drawn picture.

As of now, the deadline for this contest is Wednesday, February 14th. Which means you have just under one month to finish your pic. Since that may not be enough time, if enough people like this idea and would like to enter, I can push the deadline back a little.

I'll stick to the rules of the last tri-monthly art contest in that you can't post an entry in your fanart thread. Entries can either be mailed to me at the e-mail address in my profile or just PM me a link to your pic. (User Rock Miyabi) I'll edit a confirmed entry list at the beginning of this thread when I recieve them, and post them all in this thread after the deadline.

Unfortunately, no real prizes are up for grabs. C'mon, you can draw without having something cool dangled in front of you! I'm just a poor boy (nobody loves me. He's just a poor boy, from a poor family...hehehe...finish the song on your own time), but that doesn't mean I can't make up fancy trophies for the winners to display in their signatures. Gold, silver and bronze for each category, so you can proudly show off to all your friends. Or maybe a bigger one you can print it off. If I had something more special available, I would. If you don't plan to enter, but would like to help me judge, 4 slots are open. Just lemme know. So, join in if you'd like and good luck to anyone who enters!"

UPDATE: I (Ryouko) will be offering surprise prizes to the first place winners of each catagory! So join in the fun!

This should be interesting, as official and popular fan pairings are out of limit. I wish I have a more artistic side to me. I look forward to see everyone's artwork for this contest. ^_^

Sadly I can not draw and it would take to long to write but I can think up weird couples. I don't know how that fits in here but I did finish the song lyric in my head. As most people will if they know the song.

Hmm... would EnzanxMeiru count as not-canon? I know there are some implications of it in the games, but not in the anime.

This will be my final shameless plug!! Get your entries in by tomorrow night at midnight CST! That's about one full day and 8 hours from this post. Your time is running out to win some battlechips and Ryuusei cards or Ryouko's random mystery prize. Submit your crazy couple before it's too late! Loved all the entries I've gotten so far. But I still haven't recieved some that I thought I would be seeing. Crying or Very sad

Also, thank you to Izumi and (hopefully) Unknown Neo for putting up with my pestering and agreeing to judge along with Blue and I.

And if Unknown bails out, BubbleJudgeman is getting ready to randomly give out scores to our excellent entries!

That's the ballgame! It's officially after midnight here, so the contest must now draw to a close. I'll be sending the judges a little note in a bit here, so we'll start judging tomorrow. If you were confused on the deadline and absolutely still want to enter, I will only let you sweettalk me into allowing your entry until tomorrow morning! But I have a feeling that's it.

We had a total of 14 entries by 11 participants: 9 in Romance and 5 in Humor. So thank you to all who entered. Thought I'd be getting a few others, but I guess I can't complain for a spur of the moment idea. Tabby will be happy that there is at least one pic that is perfectly dirty enough if she uses her imagination...I did and I'm now going to therapy for it. *shudder*

Hopefully, with our number of entries, judging won't take terribly long, but please be patient. I will post a link to the entries in the fanart thread once judging is complete. To tide you over until then, have a crappy rejected humor entry! (Yes, you can pay me to never draw something so ugly in paint with only a mouse in about 20 minutes again. Can't say it's my forte. I'm a stickin' to pencil sketched pics only! Feel free to mock this Laughing

I judged. I think the humor is pretty accurate. The romance was hard but I judged.

C'mon, you know the signs are there in the anime. All that Yuuichirou neglect of Haruka, never being home, Meijin and Netto's little bonding trips, Netto's got a little bit of that Meijin personality in him, the whole "no need for formalities" - you know he's just trying to hide some secret from the kid! Like a secret love affair he had with Haruka!!! *shot*

Also, we had one late humor entry I've allowed, so that upped the total to 15, with 6 being Humor ones. And since I'm sure the fangirls and otaku want to know, there are 7-ish pics that are 'technically' malexmale pairings. There were zero femalexfemale pairings. For shame, gentlemen. 3 total humanxNavi pairings. You have been warned.

Still a slight delay, just waiting on one more judge's set of results. I can announce there is a definite Humor winner already, regardless of the last judge's picks. 6 entries are still in the running in Romance, it's a very tight race! But since I was sick of rewriting the .html for everything today, I decided to do one more quickie pic while you guys have to patiently wait.
EDIT: Results are in, cross your fingers and I'll have a link ready for you late this afternoon or early evening my time.

I understand what burnerman's upset about. They usually leave the biting for the bedroom. Shademan should have gave him a real present. Then bite him.

Tabby, you have something I currently don't: a life. Makes creating stuff a lot easier when your day mostly consists of getting rejection letters from employers...if they're nice enough to even contact me, that is. And by no means have I worked very hard on these quickies. If I wasn't doing so to joke around, no way would I post them! Burnerman's helmet is so deformed! I did Meijin x Haruka with a mouse! Look at that hideousness!Shrinking them to this size to color, as opposed to coloring at the original scan size of thousands of pixels, and cheating by using the fill option, rather than going over each inch by hand, sped things up too. Normally I don't make things as easy for myself. Wink

Double posted in the fanart thread as well. Figure if you want to make any more comments on the entries, that thread might be better than here.

I'm hoping my bandwidth holds out, and the judges didn't even put a dent in it. But I've never monitored a webpage really, so if it goes down, I apologize. I'll let you know if I've been alerted that you guys have sucked it all up. I haven't worked with .html in forever, but I think it's managable to read and click through. Also hope I didn't forget anything. Double checking doesn't always guarantee it's OK. If something's screwy, let me know.

Congrats to our Humor winner, Maqqy, and our Romance winner, Chang! Maqqy ran away with this competition, being the only unanimous piece. Because of that, she will have the tiebreaker in the prize selection. Either your choice of battlechips from my list and the McDonald's Ryuusei card set from NumberGirl or Ryouko's mystery prize. But remember, Ryouko's prize could be nothing more than a half-eaten Nintendo Power MMX pog! Shocked

I'll be contacting both winners shortly.

In terms of scoring, my system was simple. Entries were awarded points based on the number of entries in the category. With 6 total in Humor, a judge's first place entry got 6 points, 2nd got 5, and so on down the line. First place in Romance recieved 9 points, 2nd 8, etc. All 4 scores were added together and that's the number you see. So for example, Maqqy had all 6's with all four first place votes, so that's how she got 24 points. We actually had a tie in Romance, so I gave one bonus point for each first place vote. Since Chang had two votes for first, that broke the tie between she and mayl. As you'll see from the comments, we all had very differing opinions about our faves in this category. That made for a very tight race!

I made sure that the judges left some type of comment for their Top 3 in each category. Unknown Neo was nice enough to comment on them all, and I did as well. So everybody gets some feedback on their entries.

And I had some transparency issues working on the trophy sigs, so I just ended up making a little alteration to them and kept them as customized certificates the Top 3 can print off instead. Those links come after your score. If any of you'd still like some type of custom sig instead, lemme know and I'll get around to it.

So thanks for entering everyone, and I hope everyone else enjoys seeing these crazy, sweet couples!
