I only recently found out about this, so I don't know how many people here already know about it. On February 9, 2008, a third and final live-action Death Note movie was released in Japan.

The plot details L's last 23 days of his life. During this time, he solves one final case to stop a deadly virus from being released onto the world.

Ken'ichi Matsuyama, who played L in the two previous live-action Death Note movies, reprises his role as the slouching, sweets-loving detective. The film is actually a spin-off of the first two movies and follows an original storyline.

English subbed trailer

This movie has yet to be translated and subbed, but I eagerly look forward to it. I really liked L and how he was portrayed in the movies. Matsuyama was brilliant in his role as L and I really want to see how this movie will further the development of the character.

Oh, I thought it was one of those "what if?" movies, if L didn't die.

I havent seen any of the live action Death Note movies, that trailer with "L" looked awesome, it's funny he acts like his manga/anime counterpart, are they worth seeing?

Yes, they are, Hecxz. Truth be told, I actually saw the movies before the anime.

The movies, Death Note and Death Note: The Last Name are basically the anime & manga compressed into a total of approximately 4 hours. They keep several key points like Lind L. Tailor, Raye Penber, Naomi Misora, Misa, & Rem.

A lot of things they had to compress or get rid of altogether. For example, they used Kyomi Takada (who was never affiliated with Light in the movies) as the third Kira, but they merged her role in the film with that of Higuchi from the anime. Also, due to the fact that there's no 5-year time skip, Near and Mello never appear in the movies.

I really liked how Ken'ichi Matsuyama portrayed L. He played him even better than the anime had depicted him. He's a brilliant actor.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a double post because this is a topic update.

A sub of L: Change the WorLd has been released. The video can be found on Veoh. On person has uploaded the movie into segments for viewing on the net. Another person has uploaded the entire film available for download via the Veoh Downloader.

FILM SPOILERS BELOW.

I really loved this movie. Once again, Ken'ichi Matsuyama has put on a spectacular performance in his role as L. The film has its funny moments, its action moments, and its heartwarming moments. I love the way L interacts with Near throughout the entire movie. In fact, both of them are awesome. However, L is the one who truly breaks the awesome-meter. There is also a brief reference to Death Note: Another Note. And at the beginning, you can also feel how L feels following the death of Watari. Also, for fans of the original movies, this one has brief cameos by Light, Misa, and Ryuk.

Anyway, this is been a topic update followed by my two cents.
