So obviously romance. Anywho, this is for Planty's birthday :3 a Swallowman x Cosmoman fic ^^ Enjoy planty and may your birthday be wonderful, even if it is a day late XD

Swallowman leaned against the black abyss that made up Cosmoman’s body and sighed. It was a wistful sigh and if Cosmoman didn’t know any better he would have sworn that Swallowman almost sounded sad. “Is there something wrong?” Cosmoman asked cautiously.

Swallowman turned over in Cosmoman’s lap and looked at Cosmoman’s body. He traced the stars, galaxies and other heavenly bodies that were reflected inside on him with a finger. Cosmoman suppressed a shiver and frowned when Swallowman really didn’t answer. After a few more minutes Cosmoman opened his mouth to ask more forcefully but Swallowman interrupted him. “Did you know?” he asked. “That in the human’s world, the swallows fly under the real sky? With stars and a sun and a moon. I wonder what that’s like.”

Cosmoman put a strong arm around Swallowman and pulled him even closer to his body. “Why do you think of yourself more as a swallow and less as a human. You are a navi modeled after humans after all,” he pointed out gently.

Swallowman rested his cheek against Cosmoman’s body and watched the galaxies swirl for several minutes before replying. “Because I prefer to,” he said. “I can fly and fight. I can be in the air and want nothing else. Space is all I need. Space to be free. Besides I am neither swallow nor human, I am simply data,” he finish with a trace of a bitter smile.

Cosmoman was quiet as Swallowman continued to gaze at the heavenly bodies within him. Finally he decided to continue. “Data that can think,” he replied. “Data that can feel. We know what we are but we still can be what we wish to become. Humans do not dictate that for us.”

Swallowman nodded and rested his head against Cosmoman’s shoulder. “Hey, Cosmoman, have you ever seen a star?” he asked. “A real star?”

Cosmoman was thoughtful for a few minutes. “A real star?” he asked. He looked up at the ceiling of the Undernet as if a starry sky would magically appear over their heads. He smiled wanly and shook his head. “I don’t think so. If I have then I wasn’t paying attention. Every time I get close to the humans’ world I am fighting. There’s no time to see the sky.”

Swallowman nodded. “I know,” he said simply. “There’s no time to see things like stars or feel things like wind when we go up there. If we even leave here all we do is battle. Battle, fight, win. Live.” Cosmoman’s eyes saddened as Swallowman trailed off. “Life is a never-ending battle.”

Cosmoman thought to pull the small navi close to him but he was surprised when Swallowman suddenly stood up and stretched his arms over his head. “What am I saying?” he laughed. “I sound like a whiny kid. Never ending battle,” he snorted. “Where did I come up with that?”

Cosmoman stood up as well and simply walked over to Swallowman and gave him a tight hug. Swallowman stiffened from surprise for a few seconds, then relaxed into the embrace. Cosmoman shook his head and held the blue navi even tighter. “You can say what you wish,” he said. “It’s okay to wish for the battles to cease. Data we may be but we still have our sentience. There has to be something wrong with the mind if all you want to do is battle.”

Swallowman nodded. “Yeah, I know. It drives everyone else down here mad,” he sighed.

Cosmoman looked up again and smiled. “If I gave you directions, would you take me somewhere?”

Swallowman frowned then grinned. “Always. Where do you want to go?”

~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~/~

Cosmoman pointed to the last firewall. “There, and be quiet about it. It’s better this time if we don’t get caught.”

Swallowman nodded and picked up the larger navi with ease. He flew through the firewall slowly, leaving it in tact and coming through on the other side free from hurt. Swallowman snorted. “What weak security,” he said haughtily.

“This isn’t a place many would hack,” Cosmoman said simply.

Swallowman set Cosmoman down and grinned. “So, where are we?” he asked. “Come on, I know you’re dying to tell me.”

Cosmoman merely smirked and pointed ahead. Swallowman jumped back into the air and flew ahead, landing gently a bit away from Cosmoman. Cosmoman followed and when he reached Swallowman he motioned to the ground. Wordlessly Swallowman sat down and Cosmoman opened a window. He played with the coding for a few seconds before something beeped and the ceiling above them began to fizzle with data.

“What is it?” Swallowman asked while watching the ceiling rearrange its self into a picture.

“A reflection,” Cosmoman replied. “This is a data facility for the observatory downtown. In here is where the scientists’ navis gather the data they take in and process it and look for abnormalities in the air. Of course it can be used to do this too,” he said and pressed a button.

Swallowman gasped as the ceiling above him was transformed into a perfect replica of the sky in the human world. “Amazing,” he said wistfully.

Cosmoman left the controls and sat down next to Swallowman. He looked up then looked at Swallowman with a smile. “Now I’ve seen a star,” he said.

Swallowman nodded and fell onto his back as he continued to gaze up at the sky. “Me too,” he answered.

Cosmoman lay next to Swallowman and the red eyed navi cuddled into his lover. “Then again,” he said with a smile. “I see the stars every time I look at you.”

Cosmoman raised an eyebrow and grinned slightly. “You like the corny lines?” he asked.

“It’s not corny when it’s true,” Swallowman argued.

Cosmoman outright smiled but instead of replying he pulled Swallowman closer and together the two shared a kiss under the starry sky.

Heheh with the sugar. If I may quote B'Elanna from an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, "I'm stopping this before my blood-sugar levels overload."

In any case, it did what it was supposed to do--and did a good job of making the reader fell all warm and fuzzy inside. There really wasn't anything else that I could find wrong, so I guess that's it. Good job.
