The Choices We Make
A multiple-POV fanfiction by Sithking Zero

In Life, there are choices.

My father, having foolishly come to my realm, was now charging up energy for the final attack.

What to do is obvious: Kill him. A human daring to attack me? The greatest Navi in the world?

But my father; does he deserve this?

Some we have forced upon us, some we force upon ourselves.

I stared down at the helpless old man, barely able to even sit upright without support from the castle battlements.

The shimmering green skull far above cast an eerie light over all the Death Eaters present, highlighting their cruel, hungry expressions at the thought of this man dead.

The blonde-haired boy has his wand raised against the old man, the greatest wizard of our age, some say. The weak, aged wizard tilts his head upwards, saying my name.

No matter the situation, a choice is rarely a pleasant thing to make.

The pitiful human, claiming to be a "Friend," of a mere Pikachu, walked through the doors of my reception area, calmly leading an army of the creatures I had captured not half an hour ago.

Their clones stood at my side and at attention, their darker markings showing that they were the superior breed of being in the world. They were like me: artificial. False. Copies.

Copies superior to the originals.

And speaking of the originals...

A small pink creature floated above the human's head, saying its name softly.

I glared back.

Sometimes, a choice doesn’t even matter: the outcome may be the same, no matter which is chosen.

The red and black clouds continued to vomit their deadly rain of black creatures down upon the city as I watched.

The creatures were armed with weapons and armor that defied belief, and easily mowed down row after row of GUN soldiers with them.

I laughed. A short, derisive laugh, but it was a laugh nonetheless.

A blur at the corner of my vision stopped that laugh cold.

A blue blur shot through the heart of the Black Creatures’ growing armies, slicing through them like a tank through tinfoil. The blur then stopped, made a sarcastic crack about them being too slow, and took off again.

I watched the blue hedgehog rocket around, saving lives of the humans. I also remembered the offer of the starfish-like monster that had appeared to me earlier: Destroy the humans. Bring the Seven Chaos emeralds. Find your memories.

A person’s choice, however simple, can affect how the person will spend the rest of their lives.

Sickening pain and nausea greated me as soon as XANA released me from his grip, the energy overload from the core’s destruction freeing me from his grip, however temporarily.

For an eternity, it seemed, I was floating in thin air, spinning slightly, without light, air, hope…

Then, from the depths of the ocean far below, I heard a voice. A voice of poisoned honey, the voice of the devil himself.

He whispered of escape, from pain, from suffering, from here, from uncertainty.

He promised me fabulous rewards. He promised me HER.

All in exchange for becoming his puppet.

A choice is a double-edged sword. While it has capacity for good, it has capacity for darkness, as well.

As I placed the three sacred gems onto the alter, the massive stone door creaked open, glowing slightly.

From somewhere, I could swear that I heard the distant, cold, rumble of laughter…

But there were more important matters to attend to.

Walking past the stone alter with the new glittering sacred stones, there was a beam of light that landed precisely on a glittering object.

It was a sword, beautifully crafted, with a purple handle, wing-shaped crossbars, and a golden gem in the middle. The blade made a slight ringing noise when tapped, and though the blade had not been touched for several hundred years, no rust or decay had come of it.

My glittering fairy, Navi, flittered around me, telling me to take the Sword.

But the thing to remember most about a choice is…

Bass charged his earthbreaker, gloves and gauntlets glowing…

Severus Snape pushed Malfoy aside, wand raised, mouth already forming the syllables for the deadly curse…

Mewtwo prepared his deadly Psychic attack…

Shadow clutched his hands into fists, and lept into battle, black creatures dying before him…

Black energy poured into William, altering his form to that of XANA’s perfect servant…

And the Hylian boy reached out and tugged the sword from the stone...

A choice, once made, can never be undone.

Excellently done, excellently done indeed. You did a good job using the minor details in each perspective to hint at whose perspective it was and what was going on without coming out and actually saying their name.

The only minor problem was the choice of subject matter; Snape's and Link's decisions are both rather profound, but the rest of the characters sort of pale in comparison. There really wasn't much of a choice to be made by Bass or Mewtwo, and their situations weren't really all that dire.

Overall, however, it's wonderful on the first read, but like any good movie, those sort of things tend to stand out on the second and third reads.
