Helping a Friend

I am very concerned for a friend right now. Recently, someone to whom he felt very close over the internet revealed something that deeply wounded him. Now my friend feels devastated, humiliated, and above all, betrayed. He has now sworn to go out and kill this "former friend" of his.

Please, if you have ANYTHING to contribute that could help me help him, it would be greatly appreciated. This friend is like a brother to me and it would just kill me if something happened to him.

Damn. I'm really sorry to hear this happened.

Easily the most important thing you can do for your friend is to make sure that he knows, above all else, that he can trust you to be there for him. He has to know that you won't betray him or mock him for what happened, and that if he ever does get attacked about whatever it is that happened, that you'll come to his defense.

If he's as serious about this as it sounds, he needs an anchor, something to stabilize himself until he can recover from this. Be that anchor for him. Make sure he knows he's not alone on this. And then do everything in your power to stay true to those promises.

Well I had a good two-hour heart-to-heart talk with my friend yesterday. He's finally cooled down some (thankfully) with some time possibly with a bit of my help and needless to say I'm relieved.

AMZ, I'm not trying to sound mean or heartless, but...I find this in really, REALLY bad taste for what you've posted.

Helping a friend is fine. A general post just explaining the situation would have sufficed. This, however, is very uncalled for. I don't know if your friend would have liked you posting his journal entries onto other message boards, as you're publically airing his drama to unknown people.

As it is, I'm removing both entries. It is entirely inappropriate and I don't think your friend would like seeing his entries on places unknown to him.

I'll leave the topic open, but please, think about what you're posting before you do.
