MMBN 1 and I think MMBN 2 why did we need level ups? I'm like level 83 and I still don't know what's it for.

I believe level 100 represents having all of the possible buster upgrades and HP memories. It shows your level of completeness, more or less.

The levels disappeared after BN2 because the NaviCustomizer made your HP and Buster strength more of a preference thing than a progress thing. Anyway, the levels in BN1 go up for HP Memories, Buster Power-Ups, and Armour. You start at level 1, each of the 45 HPMemories adds 1 level, each of the 12 PowerUps add 3 levels, and each of the 3 armours add 6 levels. If you're still at Lv.83, those could be the things you're missing.

EDIT: Raijin beat me to it. And said it better than me.

...ever played a Metroid game? Where you get a percentage based on the number of items you find. MegaMan Battle Network is like that, but it only applies to HP Memories and PowerUps. Nothing else affects it to my knowledge. I think RegUPs and SubMems may affect it also, but I'm not sure.

Yeah, you're right. It's based on how much the game is completed, like in Metroid and in the Donkey Kong Country games. Getting 100% just means you're done.

I think there were some things in BN1 which couldn't be unlocked unless you were at a certain level, too. IIRC, you can't encounter Forte/Bass until you're at level 100, and you need a certain level to encounter PharaohMan and/or ShadowMan.

I think those were affected by how many chips you had, which I think may be independant from your level in the game. I may be wrong though.

you hvae to be at level 70 to fight Pharohman, and have 140 different chips in your library to fight Shadomwan. I liked the level up thing, too bad it's gone....
