Well, it's around that time to start pre-ordering the game, and I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same wangsts about this game.
I'm so tempted to buy it, yet there are so many reasons for me not to.
(I don't like the BN battle system, Subaru looks totally emo throughout the entire game, "Geo Stelar, Sonia Strumm, Brunt Bison, or whatever the hell they renamed Gonta", I'd have to buy the wifi thingum)
or
(I have to buy the wifi thingum ANYWAY cause I want to use it for the wii I'm hoping to get, the characters are just so quirky that I have to buy it, No more stupid chip codes, 3D battling)
It honestly depends. What do you guys think? _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

Well, it's an interesting game. I found that it seemed to be a little bit more action based than EXE did. If you dislike the card/chip system that's still at the core of the gameplay, but it's not so bad I guess.
The names won't pop up all that often and you can easily mentally substitute them with the original names.
Subaru only has his emo portrait for a while, he has a rather neutral face after that. You could always run around with the Visualiser on I guess.
I enjoyed it, it's a different experience from EXE because of the change of view; you'd be surprised how different it feels. _________________

Pros:
- Great gameplay. The battle system is enough BattleNetwork-ish to feel it, yet different enough for a refreshment.
- Useful battlecards.
- Combo system can keep you playing to build a great combo.
- Interesting FM battles, although some are very hard.
- All Star Forces obtainable in the game if you can get friends with other versions.
- No codes. New battlecard? Put it in your deck. And favorites work as jollies.
Cons:
- Enough with the budget-price range graphics.
- Touch could be much, much better implemented, there's nothing in here that couldn't be done on a GBA if it weren't for the 3D battlefield.
- Cyberworlds need improvement. All devices 'cept boss scenarios look the same.
- You'll scream in fear when you see Subaru without glasses in the beginning.
- Mugshots are just plain bad, and you'll see 'em all the time in this game. No emotions what-so-ever and Subaru looks stoned all the game. It couldn't kill to put multiple shots just to show emotions.
- Denpa Henkan sequence is kinda unexciting as are all the game cutscenes. It wouldn't have hurt to add a little anime sequence alas ZX here and there.
- Wave roads should cover the whole world, but why you have to get off it and then take a bus to go to another area's wave road?
Neutral:
- Story pretty much true to the BN origins. New chapter, go in a new area, explore it, trouble happens, Rockman saves the day and saves the guy that caused the trouble.
- No need to hold B button to dash, you'll dash all the time already, despise not dashing lowered the random encounter ratio.
- Watch out when you go into narrow spots with people. The JAP version had a glitch where you could get stuck and lose all your progress up until there, and if you made the mistake to save at that point, you could kiss your game goodbye.
- The stereotypes are all here, but they work quite differently. Damsel in distress "Roll-figure" actually saves Rockman's butt quite often, friends don't act all friendly friend because they're friends to you ever since the beginning, but rather you'll have to wait much later on.
- The brother bond is kinda hyped in the game.
In short:
You'll love the gameplay.
You'll get tired of the graphics.
You'll enjoy classic BN story and gameplay but with a spin.
Room for a sequel with some good beef. _________________ SPOILER:

What do you mean by "Favorites work as jollies"? o.O
And I did wonder that....why is it ZX gets anime cutscenes, and has no anime, yet RNR/MSF gets no anime cutscenes but has an anime?... _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

Favorites act like Jokers? Silver cards are used just like the * battlechips.
Graphic-wise, I think the 3D looks decent enough, though not having seen a huge amount in action, some of it could look lame.
Sprite wise, I think it looks great. My only complaint is that the Subaru as Megaman sprites look rather goofy at times. Must be the large head and skinny legs.
Mugshot-wise, it appears that als=most all of the generic NPCs have horrific mugshots. They're either poorly drawn, or just plain ugly. Though Utagai, Taurus Fire, and a few other main characters look just as bad. I haven't seen all of the main characters mugs, but most of them looked okay. I wish they had stuck with the EXE6 style when it came to the mugs. That game had some awesome mugshots.
As for anime cutscenes... I really can't see them working for this game beyond the denpa henkan sequence. It's a different genre than ZX, and I just can't see it working with Star Force.
So, should you buy it? I'd say so. After you've played the game, then you can judge it all you want. I don't think it's fair to judge any game before you've played it firsthand. If you don't like it, that's fine, and if you do, you'll have a sequel to look forward to. _________________ ' I don't care if the buzz isn't real- I can roleplay being drunk!'

The graphics weren't that bad, I think people are being a bit harsh on the mugshots. XD
They're stylised, they're fine people just don't seem to like the style much. _________________

I really meant stuff like the overworld. It's in the BN line, sure, but that game come out back in 2001, it's 2007. And BN4 didn't improve a lot.
Couldn't they try something like Pokémon did? I really liked the 3D map in there. It's just annoying to see the places limited to tiny maps.
I know ZX is another game, but it'd be just to show a few scenes. It'd be cool, Ryuusei also already has an anime like it's being mentioned here. I would've liked to see the first time Subaru went denpa henkan to see as a sequence. _________________ SPOILER:

I'd say it's worth a try... I'm probably gonna wait for the second one myself (there's other stuff that I want more right now), but from what I've gathered it's fairly good, despite some of it's flaws. |

English Language version release dates are as follows:
US Release: 7th August
UK Release: unknown
AUS Release: 7th November
I really tried to find a release date for the UK, but couldn't anywhere. ;_; As for the Aussie one, I went in to EB and asked and they've finally got the game and release on their systems. About time too. _________________ "There is no coincidence, only Hitsuzen" Yuko, xxxHolic

OK now thats very close to where I'm at. Thanks for the info maybe we might run into each other.
IMO to be on topic, I say buy the game if your a huge megaman fan and don't really care how many times they change him around. Thats what I useually do.
And who knows Megaman Star Force will be a great success with the Online brother band and WiFi battling. |

well, IM a big Megaman fan so I bought it anyway. besides, Wood Dragon? awesome. I hope the WiFi battling takes off b/c that's what people wanted with the DS version of MMBN5. At least I'll use it ... is it possible to play with people in Japan or is it region-locked? |

Not to mention the fact that there is no wifi battling for the first game. Only brother band is on wifi.
Though I have no idea what this On Air host and client stuff is for. (Maybe online chip trading? Dunno.)
OH YEAH. I bought the game XD. _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

I just got the game and took a run though the booklet. :/ Basically the whole game is gimped to WIRELESS ONLY fun. Brother band and all that is WIRELESS ONLY. The other WiFi stuff just trading and battling and sending each other your data. No Brotherband help at all :< Highly disappointed, I'm getting tired of all this "Wireless only" crap since I don't have anyone even remotelly near me that has this game. Gah...why did they crack the DS tunneling already so I can just wifi the wireless..... :< _________________

...Wrong.
The only Wifi there is is for the Brotherband and sending E-mail. You can send Battlecards via e-mail.
Everything ELSE is Wireless only. Batting, real trading, etc. _________________

...XD
If there was no brother band, I'd be seriously f*cked over, Seeing as I've been getting by a lot purely because of my brothers' awesome HP-ups and status effects.
If there was no brotherband, there would be no circle saying "Wifi" on the game box XD
Though I do wonder, what the heck is that "On Air! Host/Client" stuff. I tried doing it, but it seems to not work. Maybe it's for wireless...something else-ing. _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.
