I've known about this anime for quite some time, but it's only been recently that I decided to give it a chance and watch it. And, for an anime about nothing, it's pretty interesting. xD It's not really about nothing, yet, it's not about anything in particular...
Basically, it's about these girls, and they have conversations based off of real life facts, and stuff you wonder/think about, but may never have a conversation about. They also throw in references to other anime, manga, and video games, since one of the main characters is, literally, obsessed with all things anime. (Haven't seen a RockMan reference though, so far, so I don't think there is one...)
They mention the names of the anime and stuff, but they have to bleep them out, due to copyright reasons, and stuff, but you can still understand what they're talking about. ^^U They make a lot of Harui references since the same company that produces it produced Harui. Never actually cared for Harui, but it's still interesting to see a real anime in another anime. xD Hahaha...
Anyway, anyone else seen it? I have about three episodes left, and then I'm done with it (There's only, like 24 episodes...), but I think I'll get the manga, since it was just recently translated into English this year, so I can read it. I think the anime was actually based off the manga, so the manga should be even better...
If you plan on watching it for the first time, and English is your first language, I would highly suggest just watching the dubbed version. It's so close to the original Japanese version, there's no point in watching it in subs, unless you don't like their voices for some reason... >>U _________________ My art blog: http://annamariacoppi.blogspot.com/

I've seen the series. My favorite characters are Miyuki and Konata. Miyuki's cute and Konata is the awesomest. A female super nerd! A friend of mine like Kagami and her tsundere ways. Funny show too.I recommend it. |

Perhaps you will be assisted by a quick review I wrote for it:
My Humble Self wrote: | Comments: This is...one of those strange anime that is quite delineated--either you love it, or abhor it with every fiber of your being. The only seiyu of note here is Aya Hirano, i.e. Haruhi--and there are plenty of references to said series, as well as pretty much every other modern anime out there. This anime is akin to something like a class of partial differential equations--you need numerous prerequisites in order to enjoy and understand the material. Lucky Star is much the same--a lot of the humor is very subtle and makes cracks at other anime, and if you've never watched the referred anime, the joke fails. Definitely an *advanced* anime--one not for people just entering the scene.
Grade: B- |
I enjoyed it, but it wasn't anything spectacular. The humor here is all really in the random tangents that each episode goes out on, and of course, with their heavy use of references to other anime out there. It's Kyoto Animation, so of course the style is sharp and clear, and there's little to no mess with the appearances of the characters.
I've also sampled an episode of the dub of Lucky Star, and I've found that it actually was quite good. Compared with the a.f.k. subbed version that I watched as it was being released, I've found that the dub maintains a lot of the same quirks and nuances that the original had. It's definitely a good quality dub, compared to other dubs out there--but I'd still consider watching the subbed versions just to see how the OP and ED are translated--even though the OP is ridiculously frenetic and oddly hypnotic, and the EDs are always amusing in their own right. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! I never watched it and never had an interest in watching it. Part of the reason I love Haruhi is the story, Lucky Star seemed to lack that and furthermore it seemed to be trying too hard. Generally much of the promo material I saw and the few excerpts I've been linked to on YouTube put me off it. _________________

This is the paragon of the "slice-of-life" genre that Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men is well known for--there is little, if any, overarching plot, and the bulk of the story is devoted to that of presenting a situation that seemed to be cut out of the character's life with an Exacto knife, and using that as the primary vector for characterization. It does have its perks, as it is certainly more down-to-earth than some of the other programs in its genre. However, I do agree about the trying too hard--it panders to people who are relatively well-versed in anime as opposed to the average viewer, and that is what makes it alienate some of its potential viewers. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks!
