Ahoy hoy!

Time for a game review (only my third post, but still...meh!)

This one is about a new game called "Grand Fantasia." It is an Asian game that was translated to english by Aeria Games (the same group who also produced Last Chaos and Dream of Mirror Online [DOMO]).

So, on forward!

The storyline is that on the world you live on, Saphael, was divided by a war a thousand year ago. This was known as the Great Saphael War. It lasted hundreds of years. However, a reclusive group of people, known as Sprite Messengers, fled from the war and settled on an island, which they would call Siwa Island.

Sprite Messengers were people chosen by the sprites of the world. These people were granted magical powers by the sprites in order to help restore and maintain the balance of the world.

The settlers of Siwa Island remained reclusive until the world of Saphael would begin to calm itself. During this time of peace, which would not last, the three great cities would be built: Jale, The Steam City. Kaslow, the Royal City. Ilya, the Magical City.

Now, with a new threat from the Demon lords emerging from under the earth, the Sprite Messengers of Siwa Island have been forced out of their seclusion and now have re-entered the world of Saphael. Their only hope of restoring balance to Saphael is to "Restore the power of the Sprites."

This game's mechanics are similar to DOMO. You start out as a "novice" then advance to a different "profession" at level 5 (Hunter, Spellcaster, Fighter, Acolyte). These then branch off into more professions at level 15 (hunters turn into Archers, Spellcasters become mages, Fighters turn into Warriors, and Acolytes become priests).

Then, at level 30, you can branch off AGAIN into another profession (Archers can choose Ranger or Assassin, Mages can become Wizards or Necromancers, Warriors can choose Berserker or Paladin, and Priests can become either Clerics or Sages). XP and money is very WoW-ish, but flip-flopped. By that, I mean you get more XP from grinding than questing, but your money comes primarily from quests. There is also an auction house, as well as mounts.

The biggest thing is that you start out with a "sprite". This sprite is kept with you the entire game, and can evolve twice (once at level 21, then again at 51). You can also find sprite instraments that can summon additional sprites you can control. Your sprite is what does your material gathering, crafting, and item disassembly. If you don't want a sprite anymore (with the exception of your Guardian Sprite), you can go to an altar and release it back into nature. This can either increase your rep with the "Sprite Messenger" faction, or severely hurt it.

All in all, I am liking the game. I have a level 31 sage now, and am hoping to continue on.

That sounds really cool. I might as well try it when I have the chance.

I would post a link, but I need a higher post count in order to do it.

To make it simple: Google "Grand Fantasia" and then click the first link.

Pretty straightforward.

I see. Thanks. My connection is slower than ever these days for some reason, but we should upgrade it in a few days. I'll probably try it then.
