I like the EXE series and the Ryuusei series but I don't why some fans do not enjoy the Ryuusei series as much as they do the former. It is just strange to me that anyonce could actually hate the series, it is not popular in Japan but still it is a good series and the games are fun. Why is Ryuusei hated by some fans?

I can't speak for everyone, but personally:

1. 3 panel restriction. Limits strategy, there's less things you can do with only 3 panels to move about. In SF, it made chips like LongSword practically useless in PvP, compared to the usefulness of both LongSword and WideSword in EXE.
2. Bad graphical quality. EXE sprites were much more detailed than the 3D Models SF currently have. Back then, you would see every single pixel in the right exact spot, making it seem almost divine. In SF, lack of techniques such as anti-aliasing and hardware limitations when it comes to 3D graphics make it appear lack-luster. Of course, you can never compare it to a non-portable console, but still.
3. Its just not EXE. We have new characters, new battlecards/chips, new scenarios, and a brand new story. Some people dislike change, myself being one of them. When we have something that works, we don't want things to change to the other direction.

[/rant]

Maybe the next crossover game will make fans like the SF series a little better?

I've explained why I don't like it many times.

Basically: It's just not as good. Don't like the characters as much, hate the designs and names, universe isn't quite as believable (Matter waves would pretty much revolutionize society, not be used just as scooters. Razz) and it's all around just shoddy feeling compared to EXE. Yes dialogue was improved, but the whole universe just made me go "pleh." That and the battles weren't nearly as fun.

I was always very attached to the EXE universe and characters (Higure-san for the win, demasu!), especially after getting my hands on the subbed Japanese anime. Ryusei is ok, but I'll never be a big fan and I think it frustrates people because it replaced what they loved.

But I'm just a diehard EXE fan, so my opinions don't matter. Razz

It seems like it's been getting better received thanks to the third game, but I don't think it'll ever reach EXE's level of popularity.

Despite doing fairly well, EXE was always kind of looked down on by a lot of the Rockman fandom, and Ryuusei having the same problem with the EXE fandom without the financial success to back it up doesn't really help it's cause.

I want to make it clear that I do like the Ryusei series (particularly the anime, it's a little better than the games) somewhat, but I just won't be a huge fan of it like EXE.

It might have something to do with the fact that fans grow attached to a particular incarnation after so long, such that when something radically different is introduced the fans don't always accept it as "good" right away, usually comparing it to its predecessor.

It's just a theory. I was a bit hesitant towards the Zero games when they first came out and compared them to the X games. Even EXE caught me off guard back in the day. I guess it just takes some time for a new series to grow on you...

Or, perhaps it actually is just because the EXE games and anime are better than Ryuusei's. Either way, Ryuusei is still fine on its own. It doesn't make a bit of difference to me though; I like them all! Mr. Green

In general I think Starforce's characters are less compelling. In EXE most of them were average people but in a world with much more internet connection. In Starforce, they are not really realistic characters at all and they live in a world of decadence where it is easy to have whatever you want. Think about how selfish a lot of the Starforce characters are, it does seem like they have become less empathic because of the ease of living.

Starforce does have some good characters and I like the designs of some others. Generally though I think that its characters are a let down. Like in mechanics and story, number three is definitely an improvement, but it is an exception to the series currently and not a standard.
