7/25/2004 :: This week's episode of Axess #42 was entitled, "Meiru's First Date". Beware, spoilers below. New clips in the scenes section. Clips are now being encoded with WMP9. So if you don't have that codec, go get it now. W00t. On we go!
The episode begins outside with a Dimensional Area. R Rockman is getting his rear end pummeled by none other than Swordman. As the Darkloid and his faceless cronies laugh in triumph, Meiru suddenly steps out in front of R Rockman. "I've come to save you, Netto!"
Meiru faces off against Swordman, and pulls a Synchro Chip out into her hand. "Lets go, Roll!" As her pink clad navi agrees, they both yell out "Cross Fusion!" in unison, and transform together. (Note: Meiru's transformation sequence movements are the exact same as Enzans. Just different characters.)
R Rockman is amazed by Meiru and Roll's new ability, and stunningly says "Meiru-chan...". R Roll gets ready to fight, stating "Now I am Cross Fusion Roll! Lets go, Darkloid!" True to her words, R Roll starts things off by obliterating all of Swordman's cronies with her "Heart Slash!" attack. She then finishes off the Darkloid himself with her "Roll Arrow!", resulting in his deletion.
Having won the battle, R Roll turns around and looks at R Rockman, who is still sitting on the ground. She cheerfully asks him, "What do you think, Netto?" R Roll begins to become so very happy about her acheivement, stating how cool she now is. ^_^; That is, until a random mettool falls from the sky and dumps itself right smack on top of her head.
And thus, Meiru-chan wakes up from her dream, with Rush holding up her alarm clock. She's late for school!
And so, we're then taken to Akihara Elementary. Meiru is talking with Netto after class has been let out, and she tells him about her dream.
Netto: "Meiru-chan Cross Fusion?"
Meiru: "A wierd dream, isn't it?"
Netto then tells her that it would be too difficult to make a new Synchro Chip. Seeing no point in discussing it further, Meiru asks if he's ready to go home. As Netto begins to say that it's his turn to clean the classroom, his PET begins to beep. It's Meijin! Netto is informed that he is needed to take care of a virus attack.
Netto accepts his mission, then realizes he still has cleaning duty to do. Being the clever boy he is, he then places the broom into Meiru's hands, and pleads for her to cover him as he runs out the door. This of course, leaves Meiru less than pleased.
Mariko-sensei then approaches Meiru, and asks what's wrong. Meiru responds that nothing is amiss. Mariko-sensei then notices that Netto has already left, and becomes angry when she realizes that he skipped out on cleaning. Thankfully Meiru comes up with an excuse, which sets Mariko-sensei at ease.
After the teacher leaves, Meiru thinks of how hard it is to keep Netto's Net Savior duties a secret. However, she knows he is doing it to protect the world, so it's okay with her. With renewed energy, Meiru begins doing Netto's part of the cleaning duties in the classroom.
Later in the day, Meiru is walking her way home, but stops as she reaches the park. Taking a seat at an empty bench, she remembers a day she spent there with Netto when they were much younger.
Flashback:
A very cute and chibi Netto is yelling at a bully to leave Meiru-chan alone. The much larger bully is hardly intimidated, and pushes Netto roughly onto the ground. The spunky little boy isn't down for the count though, as he gets back up onto his feet. Flailing his chibi little arms, he runs straight back at the bully, only to have the larger boy keep him at arms length and out of harms way.
The bully then shoves Netto back down onto the ground. A concerned Meiru leans over Netto, who is beginning to whimper. Netto defiantly states "I'm okay! I'll protect Meiru-chan!" And so, Netto flings himself yet again at the bully, even with the tears in his eyes.
A moment later, a very roughed up bully runs away. However it wasn't Netto who made him turn heel....it was Meiru! The sound of sobs turn Meiru's antenntion to behind her, where Netto is crouched down in the sand. Meiru kneels down beside him, and tells him not to cry as she pats his head.
End Flashback
As we're brought back to present day Meiru, she states that she can't believe how things ended up, especially now that Netto is the Net Savior and protecting the world. She then sees a dome shaped structure on the playground, and remembers a time when she and Netto had sat inside.
Chibi Meiru draws a heart onto the inside of the structure with a nail, then writes her name on one half. She then tells Netto to write his name on the other side, as a promise that they'll always be together.
Present day Meiru opens her eyes as we come back from the flashback, and she smiles. However, ever since Netto became a Net Savior, he is always very busy. Roll states that Meiru is acting oddly, and she responds that it's because she never sees Netto anymore. "I'm a little sad..."
Late at night, Meiru sits in her room, and chats with Netto on the visual phone. Netto thanks her for covering for him at school, and reports that everything was resolved on his mission. Meiru is glad that everything is alright. Netto then chimes in that because of his duties, he wasn't able to do his homework. ^_^; Meiru becomes peeved when he asks for her help yet again.
This time instead of giving in, Meiru gives Netto a good chewing out about doing his own homework. ^_^; Netto becomes a little bit frightened, and agrees to take care of it himself. Netto then suddenly remembers something, and asks Meiru if she's busy tomorrow. When Meiru replies that she has nothing planned, he asks her if she will go somewhere with him. Before she can get the details out of him, he hangs up. ^_^;
Meiru becomes upset again, stating that she absolutely doesn't understand. However, Roll does! She clues in Meiru that what Netto asked her for tomorrow....was a date! Meiru becomes very flustered at the idea of her first date, and ends up calling Netto an idiot for her troubles. ^_^;
The next morning around 10am in the Square, a very pretty and dressed up Meiru waits for Netto to arrive. She suddenly hears his voice calling her name, but he doesn't see her. So she approaches him, and smiles. Netto is absolutely shocked that she dressed up so nicely, and asks why. When she asks if it's strange, he quickly shakes his head, then quietly comments that it's cute. This of course makes Meiru very happy. ^_^
Netto then takes Meiru's hand, which causes her to blush. Stating, "Well then, lets go!" Netto drags off a laughing and smiling Meiru behind him. Inside the PET, Roll watches the two in wonder. Rockman of course, doesn't understand what's going on. Roll becomes upset for a moment, then peers at Rockman for a moment before also taking his hand in hers. ^_^
Unfortunately for Meiru, the destination for their "date" was his father's Science Labs. Apparantly Yuuichirou needs further data research on the Synchro Chip, and asks Meiru for her help. She's given an odd outfit, with many sensors attached to it. The supplemental data given from the link between operator and navi will aid in his developments. However, he does mention that Meiru and Roll are definately ideal for Synchro.
When the experiment is over, Yuuichirou thanks a now very depressed Meiru for her help in gathering data. After a moment of deliberation, Yuuichirou suddenly remembers something, and digs two tickets out of his lab coat. They're for the Amusement Park! Yuuichirou mentions that the two of them can use the tickets for a date. ^_^
Meiru: "D-Date?!"
Netto: "Ehhh?! With Meiru-chan!?"
Netto's reaction of course angers Meiru, and she latches onto his arm.
Meiru: "Lets go, Netto."
Netto: "Ah...go....where?""
Meiru: "DATE! A DATE!"
Netto cringes in fear yet again of Meiru, and allows himself to get dragged away. ^_^; Yuuichirou smiles as he watches the two leave the building.
Incidently, the Amusement Park is right next to the children's park that Meiru visited earlier. The two enter the fair grounds, just as a security camera eyes in on them. We hear a voice stating, "I've found you, Hikari Netto."
All of a sudden, a train in the amusement park goes out of control, and heads right for Meiru and Netto! Netto grabs Meiru's hand as he pulls her off in the other direction, and the train crashes into a roller coaster beam. When Netto asks what that was all about, Rockman reports that something is amiss. Indeed there is, as Swordman appears on the viewing monitor of the Train controls.
A second later, Dimensional Converters begin to pop up all over the Amusement Park, and create a Dimensional Area. Swordman appears in the real world to confront the Net Savior head on. Meiru begins to become worried.
Meiru: "Netto...."
Netto: "It's okay...don't worry. I will protect Meiru-chan!"
Netto's words bring back memories of their childhood, as Meiru remembers a much younger Netto saying the exact same thing. Netto tells her to go hide, then prepares to face off against Swordman. Netto pulls out his Synchro Chip, and prepares to use Cross Fusion. However, Swordman uses his "Sonic Blade!" to knock it out of his hands!
As Netto watches his Synchro Chip fly away, Swordman preps his "Spiral Sword!" attack, and sends it chasing after Netto. Meiru worridly watches Netto flee from the scene, then realizes she can help him if she can find his Synchro Chip. She eventually spots it as the sun reflects off of it, and hurries over, only to see that it is burried under rubble.
Meiru grabs an iron bar and attempts to pry the piece of cement away, so she can reach the chip. However, her long dress keeps getting in the way, until it eventually tears. Meiru becomes upset for a moment, then decides to forsake her pretty outfit, and tears the rest of the long skirt off until it is short. Now more free to move, Meiru successfully pries off the chunk of debris.
Meiru then catches up to Netto, and calls over his attention, waving the Synchro Chip. Unfortunately, this also garners Swordman's attention as well, as he flings off his Spiral Sword in her direction. Meiru is forced to flee as the Darkloid begins to chase her, determined to get ahold of the Synchro Chip.
Meiru begins to run up the long ramp of a roller coaster, with Swordman close behind. Eventually she reaches the top of the hill, and finds the downway side far too steep to go down! Finding herself stranded, Meiru turns around to face Swordman, who demands the Synchro Chip. However, the girl won't give it over so easily.
Meiru looks at the Synchro Chip in her hand, and remembers Yuuichirou's kind words about her and Roll earlier before. Meiru becomes very determined, and pulls her PET from her belt. Stating that she'll never forgive him for ruining both her date and her dress, Meiru prepares to slot in the Synchro Chip.
Netto: "Don't do it, Meiru-chan!"
Meiru: "Lets go, Roll!"
Roll: "Ehhh?! W-Wait!"
Meiru: "Synchro Chip, Slot In! Cross Fusion!"
...................................
Unfortunately, much to Meiru's dismay, nothing happens. An error message pops up on her PET screen, and spits out the chip. Seeing that she's no match for him, Swordman fires off a "Sonic Blade!" attack, causing the girl to scream. As the dust clears, Meiru reappears clutching to a scrap of metal, dangerously hanging high off the ground.
Meiru: "Netto....your Synchro Chip!"
Meiru finally returns his chip as she throws it to him from up above. After quickly thanking her, Netto slots in the chip, and performs Cross Fusion. Swordman begins to use his "Sword Press!" attack, and comes crashing down towards Meiru again, but is stopped just in time by R Rockman.
Unfortunately, Meiru's luck is limited, as her fingers begin to slip on the railing. R Rockman backs away as he tries to think of a way to save Meiru, then suddenly notices the childrens park directly behind them. Coming up with a plan, Rockman lures Swordman to the park, and stands on top of the dome-shaped structure that Meiru had remembered from their childhood.
Just as Swordman uses his Sword Press to come crashing down, R Rockman uses the Area Steal chip to teleport away just in time. Swordman falls crashing through the structure, and gets himself stuck inside! Even though the dome has circle holes, Swordman is too big to get himself through.
Seeing that Swordman is trapped, R Rockman activates the Long Sword chip. Swordman detaches the only part of him that can get free, the Red Sword. The two embodies run straight for each other, and clash together with an almighty force. Netto runs past him, and falls down to one knee. The Red Sword of Swordman gives a mighty "hmph!"....just before he explodes into deletion. The two remaining swords on Swordman's body decide to log out completely.
As the Dimensional Area begind to fade, Meiru finally loses her grip on the steel, and begins to fall. R Rockman summons a Dash Condor as Meiru rapidly plummets to the ground below. However, her screams are halted as something catches her from midair. When she opens her eyes, she finds herself in the arms of R Rockman, who is gliding on the Dash Condor. ^_^
Netto: "I said so, right? I'll protect Meiru-chan."
Netto's kind words bring tears to Meiru's eyes, then she gets an angry look as she yells out, "Mou, you're slow!" She then presumes to begin thumping R Rockman on the head with her fists. ^_^; As the last of the Dimensional Area fades out, Netto suddenly falls out of Cross Fusion, and the Dash Condor dissappears!
With nothing left to keep them flying, the two plummet towards the ground below. Luckily they land right on the awning of a food stand, and bounce to safety quite easily. ^_^ As they lay on top of the fabric, Meiru and Netto begin to laugh.
As the day comes to a close, Meiru sits beside Netto as he stands at the top of the slide in the childrens park. Netto suddenly apologizes for causing damage to the spot where they made their promise together as children. Meiru is surprised, then glances at a piece of debris, where you can see their names scribbled inside the heart. Sadly, it was broken in half during the battle.
However, Meiru is very happy that Netto remembered. Netto then pipes up that they'll always be together anyways, which causes Meiru to blush. When Meiru asks if he really means it, he asks if she thinks that's strange. Meiru quickly adds that it's not at all, then stands up and glomps the poor boy. ^_^

Absolutely.....this is absolutely one of my most favourite episodes in this series so far. I can't even express how happy I am that they finally gave these two a serious episode of their own. Even though the Meiru & Roll Cross Fusion ended up being nothing more than a dream, it actually felt much better that way. It just shows how much Meiru wants to be able to still protect someone she cares about. Such a cute episode this was! Especially in the chibi flashbacks. ^_^ Next week, old people net battle! Topman enters! Next week's summary will be late, since I will be at Otakon that weekend. ^_^;;
